ICKLE PHINEAS

Who:  Ickle McLaggen boys (well... teenage but whatevs)
Where: McLaggen Abode
When: Summer before Tibs 7th year and Finns 3rd.
What:  LAWLS?

Today was the day, Tiberius was sure of it.  Looking back over the past seven years, owls from school have always come on one of two days and being as one of the days was yesterday, today had to be the day.  That morning he had taken the stairs two at a time skipping the last four altogether earning him a quick scolding from the Colonel.  He muttered a quick apology before making his way to the kitchen, where the owls always came.  He lasted all but ten minutes be fore he was shooed out by his mum for being to jittery and not being able to stay still.  She had sent him on a errand to get her some ingredient (that she probably didn't even need) for something she was making (or so she said.)  Could you really blame him though? Of course he was excited.  Today was the day he was getting the letter that was going to tell him that he was Headboy!

And how did he know that he was Headboy? Because it was obvious that he was the best choice.  He had been working toward this ever since he heard that there was such a position.  He'd taken extra shifts as prefect and tutored and had straight O's in every subject.  Well any subject that mattered, flying didn't count.  When he got back from the store he dropped the bags on the counter looking for the think parchment envelopes with the distinctive green ink.  "Mum!  Did the post come?" he hollered walking towards the den.

His eyes widened greatly at the sound of his brother's voice, and Finn quickly shut the book he had in his hands. Quidditch Throughout the Ages, a book that he'd checked out of the library seven times in the past year, a book that Tibs had never glanced at in his life, and a book that he'd just stuffed their Hogwarts letters in.

Okay. He knew that hiding the damn letters wasn't going to stop the fact that his brother had become Head Boy, but Finn really did not feel like dealing with it today. He'd already gotten scolded for not making his bed, his dad was threatening to shave his head early because his 'summer hair was already a disaster,' and Corrine MacDougal had completely ignored him at the pool today.

When he was a famous quidditch player, she will not be getting any free tickets.

And not only because she was a muggle.

Finn pushed the book into its place on the book shelf and plopped down into a chair, picking up the model airplane he'd just finished painting. He watched his brother enter from over the edge of the wings, hoping he didn't feel like watering any of the plants, because that's where he'd hid the badge.

"Ma?" Tibs said coming around the corner and scanning the room, his eyes narrowing on his little brother. He hadn't said anything all day, which was odd. "Where did mum go?" he said looking around the room once again. Everything looked like in was in its place.

"Have you seen the post? You know you get your permission slip for Hogsmeade this year." he said non-nonchalantly, figuring that if he made it about Phineas, he would more an likely cooperated without throwing a fit.

"She's in the garden or something," Finn said idly, moving his plane up and down in the air. It'd be really cool if he could use his wand, to make all of his models shoot around his room and stuff, but Tibs had informed him numerous times that it was illegal, that he had something called a Trace on him, and that Tibs' had been off since last April.

Finn smirked greatly over at his brother, rolling his eyes before going back to the plane.

"Duh," he responded, letting out a breath. Of course he knew that he would be able to go to Hogsmeade this year, it was all he and his friends could owl about. It all depended on whether or not his dad thought he was responsible enough, of course, but Finn was certain he'd get his mother's signature by the time he got to King's Cross.

Tibs narrowed his eyes at Finn. He'd ignored his question. He glanced over at the clock on the mantle. Almost two, that meant the post had definitely had come by now, and Finn knew about it. The little git had that 'I did something' look on his face.

Tibs fingered his wand that was in his pocket before subtly pulling it out and summing his little brother's model plane to his hand. He was so glad he spent so much extra time practicing non-verbal spells. Now that he had Finn's undivided attention, he asked his question again. "Where is the post, Phineas."

"HEY GIVE IT BACK!" Finn jumped up, stomping his foot greatly, "Not fair, I can't do magic now!"

He frowned deeply, severely annoyed; not only was his brother annoying obnoxious all the time, he was a cheater too!

"I don't have your stupid letter!" Finn shouted, shooting forward to try and grab his plane back. If this doofus chipped any of the paint, there was going to be hell to pay, that was for sure, "Give it back, jerk!"

Ha! So he did know about his letter. He was being way to defensive to not know about it. "Is that so? Ma said she'd leave it on the table for me, and its not there." He said levitating the model plane up to the top of the book shelf, where even he was to short to reach it. "Maybe I'll just go out back and ask her about it. Or better yet, I'll go ask Colonel."

Tibs crossed his arms in front of his chest and raised a brow at Finn, daring him to push him on the matter. Maybe he ought to just turn his hair pink and 'forget' how to change it back. It would be worth the scolding. And Colonel would make him shave it all off. He smirked at the idea.
