Snape had had a long talk with Rider before giving him a new medication regime and letting him go. He was beginning to wonder if having a friend was worth all the bullshitting that came alone with the territory. He was doing an awful lot for Pyxis and she hadn't really promised him anything in return. But he liked her. Which was weird and new, and having something weird and new to pay attention to was going to keep him occupied for a while, he thought.

"I heard Parkinson got out," Rider said, sitting next to Pyxis and ignoring the way everyone else in the common room was staring at them. They knew now. Of course they were going to stare. "How the fuck did that happen?"

Pyxis felt bothered by how much people were looking at her. She had been chewing at her lip a lot lately and it was staring to bleed. Honestly, she just wanted to punch them all in the mouth and tell them to mind their own fucking business. But, she couldn't. Of course.

Turning, she glanced up at Rider and shrugged. "Probably sucking my brother off or something. Who knows? I heard Malfoy may be next."

"Fucking hell." Rider wrapped an arm around Pyxis. "You think if I suck your brother off he'll pay for me to get out? I wouldn't even use my teeth very much."

He laughed, looking down at Pyxis, and then noticed the state of her lip. Frowning to himself, Rider ran his thumb over it. "Oi," he said. "People bothering you or something? Because of the kid? I'll fuck them up."

"Right, well, just remember not to hold your breath on me getting out ever," Rider told her. "Even I'm willing to admit my issues are probably bad enough to keep me here for a while. It's not a big deal."

He ruffled Pyxis's hair. "I don't like it and you're supposed to be my girlfriend so I should be doing something about it. I'll see what I can do to get them to stop the staring."

Pyxis arched a brow at that. Supposed to be his girlfriend. She didn't think that had ever been in their agreement. Was he adding things on to suit his own enjoyment? She bit her lip and then grinned at him, slipping her hand onto his thigh.

"I don't think I ever agreed to be your girlfriend." But, for some reason, the idea intrigued her. She thought of Walden briefly. "Just the mother of your child."

"If I'm the one who knocked you up, I'm hardly going to go around fucking other people while you're pregnant," Rider told Pyxis, snorting. "Not that I can get fully hard or anything. And Snape put me on something knew so who knows what fucked up thing my body's going to do next."

He looked up at her for a moment, then shrugged. "None of it's for real, but if we're going to pretend then I'm going to pretend we're dating as well."

Rider laughed. "Right," he said. "But I'll do fake relationships, which is lucky for you." He liked having Pyxis pressed against his side. She was warm and soft. "I'm going to make my brother jealous. I hope you don't mind. Not that you have much choice."

He leaned down and brushed their lips together. "Everyone thinks I knocked you up, so I figure it's my right to put my hands on you if I want to."
