Chancellor had told Reagan not to put off his own healing process. But Reagan hadn't really known how to even begin to work on his own healing process. Mostly, he just blocked everything out and just pushed forward. He got lost in painting, that had always been easy for him to do, and he was thankful for it the moment he'd been alone for the first time. Liam worked late nights, but he always came in, and Reagan hadn't had to sleep alone. Being alone during the day was a little unnerving, but he managed and just ignored how it made him feel. And at night, it was worse, but he could handle it for a few hours until Liam was there, and once Liam was home he was fine. Or at least it was easy to pretend to be fine.

But when Liam got the call about Chancellor's heart attack and had to leave straight from the office to fly out, and Reagan realized that he'd be gone overnight, panic started to set in. It was slow at first. It was even easy to push it down and forget about it for a while, but each time it came back, it got worse and worse. He almost called Liam about a dozen times, but he didn't want to bother him. Not when Chancellor needed him, not when it was something so important. Of course Liam had called him, but Reagan was short and quick to be off the phone because he was afraid he'd break down and beg his husband to come home which wasn't fair to him. Sleeping alone in their bed wasn't even an option, and Spooky wasn't exactly the most comforting thing, even if the little cat tried to be. Doors and windows were checked several times over, even though Reagan knew Adam wasn't coming. He was locked away in some hospital, but still, the irrational fear was there and Reagan gave into it. He tried to sleep on the couch but every noise or wash of headlights through the window as a car swept down the street left him on edge, and eventually he just went down to the basement to try and paint. When even that didn't work, he really started to freak out because painting always worked. So he did laundry and reorganized the closets, and then he started to alphabitize Liam's books in the man's study. Eventually around dawn Reagan just finally broke down and cried, sobbed really, sitting in the middle of a sea of stacks and stacks of books and that's where he just decided to stay. When the crying stopped he just sat there Indian style and sort of zoned out with his chin in his hands and his elbows propped up on his knees.

Liam had sensed the tension in Reagan's voice, but he hadn't been able to predict such a thorough break down. He'd dozed fitfully at Chancellor's bedside, annoyed that Cooper had insisted on staying as well. Not that he begrudged the boy his position; he simply thought that it was his own job to handle this sort of thing for Chancellor still. He'd sat there worrying all night. Worried for Chancellor and worried for Reagan. He would have gone home had he known what Reagan was going through, but Liam wanted to believe that he was fine and so he ignored the signs, pretended they weren't there. If he could keep believing that Reagan was fine, then he wouldn't have to deal with the pain either.

When it was assured that Chancellor was going to be all right, Liam headed straight home, leaving Cooper there to watch over him while he recuperated in the hospital. Arriving home, Liam was immediately disturbed by how quiet it was. Spooky was there to greet him at the door, winding around his legs, clearly upset. It flashed in his mind that Adam had broken out of holding somehow and come to exact revenge on Liam through Reagan. Or worse, simply come to take Reagan again. He put his hand on his stomach, clenching his fingers against the flesh of his gut. "Reagan?" he said sharply, worry souring the tone of his voice to the vinegar of fear. He headed to check the bedroom and was horrified to find the bed untouched. He took off, searching the other rooms as the tension built in his chest. "Reagan!" he called again.

Reagan hadn't heard Liam's car in the drive, nor the sound of the front door. He was so zoned out that he barely heard the sound of Liam's voice calling his name, and only when the pitch of it rose with panic the second time around did Reagan snap out of it. He blinked several times, and swallowed hard, finding it difficult to get his voice to work.

"I'm fine," he called out finally, though he made no move to get up. He suddenly wished he hadn't tried to organize Liam's books, because now they were everywhere, and he could only imagine how that was going to look.

He paused and bent over with relief, hands leaning on his knees as he sucked in a breath. For a moment, he stayed there, basking in the wave of calm. Things were okay, Reagan was fine. He was there and he was fine.

But when he followed the location of the reply and found Reagan sitting in a mess of books, Liam got the sinking sensation that he wasn't fine at all. "You didn't sleep," he said. It wasn't a question; Liam had seen the pristine bed and he could see the lines of tiredness in Reagan's face. He didn't hesitate to move down to the floor and to Reagan's side. "What happened?"

Reagan wasn't sure how to answer. He was exhausted, and feeling depressed. He felt silly about how he'd handled his anxiety, and now he was a little angry with himself and a little angry with Liam for leaving him. He knew that it wasn't fair to be angry, and that made him feel even worse.

"I don't want to talk about it," he said quietly after a moment. "How's Chancellor?"

It was so rare that Reagan shut him out that when it did happen, the injury felt ten fold. He tried not to flinch though, knowing that it was Reagan's right to not want to speak about something. He bit his bottom lip, unable to come up with something to say to that right away, taking a moment to process it. "He's alive," he said.

"Reagan," he began and then didn't continue. Instead, he reached down and picked up a book, looking at it and the fact that it was in a pile of titles with similar subjects. "Were you organizing?"

"He's alive, but is he okay?" Reagan asked as he lifted a hand and rubbed at his eyes before he moved to get to his feet. He hadn't eaten since early yesterday morning, and the moment he was standing he felt a little sick. He leaned against the edge of Liam's desk and wet his lips as he swallowed hard. "I don't know what I was doing. You weren't here and I couldn't sleep."

"He's fine," Liam said, shaking his head. The man was in the hospital and being looked after just fine. The doctors had said he would be okay. Even though he was still worried about Chancellor, that worry was replaced by concern and guilt over Reagan.

He put the book down and then reached his hand down to encourage Reagan to stand up. "We can go to sleep now that I'm home."

"I should be able to sleep alone, I did it pleanty of times before," Reagan said quietly. "You can't always be here. Your job takes you to places." And that had never been an issue before. Reagan didn't want it to be one now. "I use to enjoy being alone, and now I can't... I don't know what's wrong with me."

When Reagan didn't stand up, Liam got down on the floor with him, scooting as close as he could. "There's nothing wrong with you." He touched his hand and took it, drawing it into his lap so he could smooth his thumb across the back of it. "You were kidnapped and hurt and--" raped, he was going to say, but the word hurt too much to even utter. "Things are different now and that's to be expected."

Liam looked down at Reagan's hand. "I'll take time off. We'll go somewhere together, somewhere else." He didn't know if he was just encouraging Reagan to run or if it was a good idea to take a long vacation. Maybe he was trying to run away from reality himself as well.

When Liam took his hand, Reagan felt like crying all over again. He stared down at their hands, focusing particularly on Liam's ring. He wished that going away for a while would just fix everything, but he knew better. He swallowed hard and closed his eyes as he held onto Liam's hand.

"I was mad at you for not being here," he admitted after a moment, his voice quiet. "That's not like me. You were with a friend in the hospital. And all I could think about was myself."

That twisted Liam's gut even more and he tried not to wince. "I shouldn't have left you so soon. I, of all people, should know that it takes longer to be perfectly okay after something like this. I should have drug you with me, or--I don't know." He wanted to be the one who fixed everything. He liked to think of himself as a hero when he caught the bad guy with his team. But none of them ever had to deal with the aftermath of the survivors.

"It's not your fault," Reagan said softly and he leaned his head against Liam's shoulder. "I just want to feel normal. I just hate this. I freaked out, I couldn't even breathe when it got dark. I don't want to deal with any of this, I just want to feel normal."

"You will again," he said, voice conveying confidence that he didn't quite feel completely. It wasn't that he didn't have faith in Reagan, he just knew the direness ofbtheir situation. It was a long road that he'd hoped to just magically avoid. "We'll get you a therapist, someone who specializes in this. That way, we can be sure you'll be all right." He wasnt sure how Reagan felt about therapy, but he thought it might be a good idea now.

Reagan slipped closer to Liam and he looped an arm around his husband's waist as he nodded his head a little. He didn't really want to go to therapy, but he knew that he needed it. He didn't want to continue on feeling so overwhelmed.

"Can we lay down?" he mumbled. "I'm actually starving right now."

"Starving? Do you want me to go get you a snack before we lie down?" If only a full belly and a nap would really solve all of Reagan's problems. He didn't quite know what to do, given that work would eventually take him away overnight again. Maybe he could stick around headquarters instead. With Chancellor out of commission for awhile, he could put the team in Mick's hands. Or Emma's. Both very capable individuals.

He helped Reagan to his feet, taking one last glance around the study. He would take care of that later.

"Maybe just some toast or something," Reagan said as he let Liam help him up to his feet. He hooked his arms around Liam's waist and just held onto him for a moment with his face pressed against his husband's chest. "I'm sorry I'm a mess right now, this is really the last thing you need."

"You're everything I need, so it really doesn't matter if you're a mess at the moment. It'd be insane if you weren't a bit of a mess. I should have done something about this sooner. I should have been able to see it, know how to fix it." He shook his head, pushing aside the fact that it didn't help anyone to blame himself. "Come on, let's get you some toast then."

He helped Reagan into the bedroom and then headed to the kitchen to prepare the small snack. When he returned, he had a little table that would fit over Reagan's legs on the bed.

"I love you," Reagan muttered against Liam's chest before he pulled back and pressed a kiss to his husband's chin. Once they were upstairs, he settled onto their bed and sort of zoned out for a bit. He was safe now, back where he belonged, and Adam was put away. For some reason, he figured maybe that would solve everything and it hadn't. When Liam came back he picked up a piece of toast and took a bite before he took a drink of juice. "Chancellor's really all right?"

"Yes, he's all right. He'll have to make some changes to his lifestyle. I left him with that Comfort kid. He's the one who came to investigate the team after--after Adam. I get the feeling he's not employed by internal affairs anymore though." He was rambling a little and he sighed. "He mentioned something about working at Starbuck's now. Chancellor likes him."

Reagan nibbled on his toast and listened quietly as Liam spoke. After he'd finished his food, he got up to put the tray aside and went to go crawl onto Liam's lap. He looped his arms around Liam's shoulders and kissed him softly on the mouth. "Are you okay?" he asked, "I know how much he means to you."

It always made Liam melt when Reagan did that. "He'll be all right and I'm okay." He was almost sure about both of those things, but at least his voice sounded confident.

He leaned back against the headboard, propping a pillow behind his head. He wanted to stay like this for awhile. "I'll stay around the office for awhile, all right?"

With Liam there, Reagan had calmed down considerably and felt much better. He was still upset, but having Liam to focus on set him at ease and he started to work Liam's tie off of him. It was all ready lose, so it was easy to get off.

"Normally I'd say you really don't have to do that, but thank you," Reagan said quietly as he lowered his gaze, almost ashamed to meet Liam's eyes right then.

Liam gave Reagan a moment to look away before touching his chin and trying to capture his gaze again. He didn't want Reagan to feel ashamed over this. It wasn't weak. "You're welcome," he said honestly. Reagan really was welcome--Liam would do anything for him.

Reagan managed a sad sort of smile before he leaned in and brushed a kiss to Liam's mouth, then he pulled back so that he could work the buttons of Liam's shirt open. "Maybe I should go visit my Mom for a while," he said after a moment. "Then you wouldn't have to worry."

That actually stung a little and Liam frowned. "No," he said immediately and it was firm. Liam never told Reagan what to do, but this time, he was not negotiating. "I don't want you to go anywhere." He pushed his face against Reagan's neck, giving him a squeeze.

Reagan's eyes fluttered closed when he felt the warmth of Liam's breath against his throat. He let his hands slip up against the front of Liam's chest before he slid his shirt off. "You feel good," he said softly. He remembered missing that feeling that only Liam could given him when he'd been held captive.

Liam was instantly relieved by Reagan's lack of protest about staying put. With his shirt off, more area was available to mesh with Reagan's warmth and he reacted with a thick sigh. "I love you so much, it hurts sometimes, you know? I think my heart's going to pop." It sounded ridiculous and he laughed a little. "Everything will be okay," he was saying it as much for himself as it was for Reagan.

Reagan laughed softly, and he dipped his head down to lay a kiss agains Liam's chest before he slid off of him and settled at his side. "Please don't pop, heart," he said as he pinched Liam's side and kissed at his jaw. "I love you, too," he added as he slung one of his lips across Liam's hip. "Very much. I still don't know why you married me, you're perfect."

"Because we perfect folk have to stick together," he retorted. "And we perfect sort should get some sleep," he added quietly. He'd slept a little at the hospital, but it really hadn't been comfortable or restful. He could imagine that Reagan needed it too.

Reagan smiled faintly before he moved to crawl beneath the covers. Now that Liam was there, he felt almost normal, like he'd never even had a melt down. But he knew that Liam was right. He needed to talk to someone. He didn't want a repeat of last night. Curling up next to Liam, he pulled the other man close to him and sighed. "Love you," he whispered quietly.
