Test Scene
A less composed individual would be fidgeting nervously, wringing their palms and looking up and down the hallway impatiently, rather than sitting up straight and still, almost as if standing at attention.

A less self-assured individual would be wondering if they'd really done the right thing, cold-sweating with indecision, rather than sitting with a poker face.

Thankfully for Angelo Michel Bennet, he knew he had done the right thing. It wasn't that rules weren't to be respected. Rules kept you safe. Rules helped build successful societies. Especially rules laid down, in draft form if not the final legal niceties, by the Lensherr family.

But that... that... NEANDERTHAL had gotten what he deserved. Not only had the miscreant said very rude things about Alissa, and not only had he refused to apologize, he'd gone on to talk about Giovanna. Steps had needed to be taken.

A backhand across the face, since there had been no actual gauntlet handy, had seemed appropriate to open the corrective action.

Although the consecutive blows to the head and abdomen, a number of which Angelo had received in turn, might have been the point at which an adult should have been called for instead. He supposed Gio would have had a comment about it being fitting, given that he never wanted to be considered too attractive. He cracked the tiniest of smiles at that musing.

A squeaking of chairs against the floor inside the administrator's office heralded the conclusion of his parents' discussion. He swallowed, but not hard, as he stood.

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet stepped out of the office with poker faces of their own. There was a moment of silence as they looked at their son. Then, having already explained to the school that they'd be taking him home, Paris simply waved a hand, and the family were in their own living room with a crackle.

"There's a lot to explain, Angelo," Carmella says.

A comment to the effect that he would have been happy to bring them home himself died before reaching his lips, as Angelo oriented himself.

"Of course, Mother." He clears his throat.

"Kyle was making some horrible remarks about Alissa, and I told him to stop. Not only did he not listen, but he made some horrible implications about Giovanna and our family at that point." He pauses to push away his own scowl and continue. "That was when I struck him and demanded he take it back. And that was when it turned into a confrontation."

"I didn't know you and the Turner girl were close," Carmella said.

Paris still hasn't spoken. Mother's taking point. Father weigh in afterward.

Angelo waits to see if his father is going to speak, then responds.

He very nearly stresses that he had to intervene, since Alissa is a girl, but wisely senses that would come out wrong when addressing Mother.

"We're not, but it was still the right thing to do to speak up in her defense. Kyle was being terribly crude."

"And so he moved on to your sister. Well, rules are rules, but it's understandable to not want to tolerate that..." She looks to her husband.

"I have only a few question, my son. How many people heard what the boy said about the Turner girl, and about Giovanna, when he said it?"

In spite of himself, Angelo still starts just a little when his father speaks.

"At least seventeen, that's how many were in the immediate vicinity. I'm not sure if anyone else on the playground at the time outside of standard earshot had heightened senses or telepathy. I can't speculate on who heard it and particularly cared before it turned into a confrontation."

Why yes he had kept a headcount on potential bystanders/interference, wouldn't you?

Well, yes. His parents would. That part doesn't surprise them.

Paris nods. "And once they became the catalyst for a disruption of the largest school in Hammer Bay, with more than one thousand students and dozens of faculty members, how many people do you think have heard all of those slurs now now?"

Paris gives just a moment's pause to let that question sink in before he continues. "Of course we can completely understand the desire to chastise him, Angelo. But you frequently say you want to train to use more subtlety than most in your eventual responsibilities to the Cause. Subtlety comes with it a need to learn to accept frustration. Everything has its price."

Never understimate the weight of a parent's words. Especially not a parent a few centuries old. Angelo's head lowers slightly.

"...this was different..." He mumbles in response. "It wasn't about the Cause. It was about family."

Of course the fact that a Lensherr was being slurred against in the process wasn't inconsiderable, but that was his big sister being spoken about first and foremost.

"The impulse does you credit," Paris says intently. "And I would wish nothing more than that things could be so simple that one could simply chasten a cur like that without considering any consequences. However, I have found time and again that it is never that simple." If it were, Exodus would leave the country more often, to say the least. "I am sure Giovanna is learning that now, and I do not envy her the experience."

Paris gives another pause, then. "You are aware that your mother and I work with Kyle's mother?"

The average teenager would likely respond with 'In Genosha, everyone works together.' And indeed it did briefly flicker across Angelo's mind, but it faded.

He nods his head. "Yes, sir."

"You realize that it is slightly problematic having to deal with her tomorrow when our sons just had a schoolyard fight... and mine let hers get several hits in? At least tell me he looks worse than you do."

Paris and Carmella are very attentive and concerned parents. It's just that they're also what most people would consider violent psychotics.

Angelo, still sitting, draws himself up, furrowing his brow.

"He had the greater reach, so I had to close the distance and accept some strikes along the way. I wasn't about to give that caveman the satisfaction of resorting to teleporting. I tagged his left ear to disorient him and got in two solid strikes to his solar plexus, amidst... some less precise blows." He huffs slightly, then collects himself again.

"He's tall. I couldn't get at his face as easily. He certainly is at least as unwell off as I am. I wasn't able to assess for sure when Mr Gibney pulled me off him." He pauses. "I had him on his back though."

"I see. That is something," Exodus says evenly.

Mr. and Mrs. Bennet exchange glances, and there's the slightest green-gold flickering in the former's eyes. There's obviously a brief consultation happening.

His perfect posture may somehow get even straighter. "You will not be attending school tomorrow. You will do the assignments sent home promptly, and we will discuss the entire matter further tomrrow before breakfast, at practice. For now, you will wash up and handle all the preparations at your mother's instruction for her making strangolapreti tonight.

Angelo does not smile. He certainly doesn't look sad though. He maintains a perfectly even composure as he stands up. "Yes sir. Mother, I will meet you in the kitchen."

He turns, allowing himself the tiniest of smirks once his back is turned, as he heads to the washroom.

Yes his father the telepath would probably be able to sense it anyway, but the principle of the thing is that he kept it private.
