Insula De Virsta: Lagrimas Irmoes Tribe History
They are quick, relatively strong and can travel great distances. However the mermaids have two faults. They cannot leave the water (because they have no legs, only a fin; though this has changed) and they are dreadfully temperamental creatures, bickering and arguing at the drop of a hat.

The merfolk existed below the surface of the lake. Their matters and concerns were under water, so they never participated in island affairs. They had their own system of government (an established monarchy and continuing royal line). They were a peaceful tribe living under the water with little desire to come out of it.

Enter the siblings: Johannes and Annaliese.

They were humans accepted into the witch tribe, terrible bickering beasts that soon wore out their welcome on the island. The only time they ever got along was when they were causing trouble for others, and one such occasion included insulting Rapithwin. Enraged, yet ever merciful, Rapithwin thought to punish Johannes and Annaliese.

She cast a terrible spell on them, binding them to the water as mermaids. They could not leave the water they had insulted and spent hundreds of years sullen and moody as a result. Eventually the mermaid tribe appealed to Rapithwin asking that their punishment be lightened or revoked. The royalty didn't particularly like the siblings and the trouble they were now causing under water; the royal family didn't have a good system in place to deal with them.

Rapithwin mustered what magic she could and altered the curse to remove it during daylight hours. The merfolk were now allowed to walk the land, but at night they must return to the water. The strange benefit of this was that all merfolk, as well as Johannes and Annaliese could leave the water during the day.

The merfolk began to explore the shore around their water and take an interest in things outside of the lake.

Availability: Very open.
