we're young enough to say
Well, I will do anything to not study. But some recent threads/thoughts/talks I had made me think about how my characters have changed from an IC and technical viewpoint since the first year I joined SOOOO OF COURSE I MADE A TABLE ABOUT IT. This is literally a prettied-up version of my thought-vomit so lmao don't expect greatness or like... coherency :D

THEN NOW
AMERY VLADIMIR WILKES →

circa 2007/1978
He was actually a bit of a fruitcake in his application. Once I saw how the family worked (and really, the game), I knocked that out of him pretty quick LOL. He was still a bit silly in the beginning, very prissy, very concerned with appearances, and very distasteful of getting involved in anything unsanitary, literally and metaphorically. He had an excellent relationship with Juliana, and a middling one with Grayson.
AMERY WILKES

circa 2009/1980
Well, he's been dead for two years and a month... which is sad, but we knew it was happening. At the time of his death, Amery had finally reconciled the moral crisis of family vs. ethics, with ethics winning. I think he had a hard time caring about life, because he had frustrated feelings toward Juliana that he didn't know how to resolve, and Venice, who was an outlet for that, had to be a jerk and die in the earthquake. So in the end, I think it was more of a FUCK YOU (in general) gesture than any sense of moral decency.

Meh. I don't curr cause I never actually really played him.

BUT NOW HE'S IN JAAAAAAAAAAIL
RACHEL MOIRA ENGLEWOOD →

circa 2007/1978
Let's see, in October of 1978, Amissa was six months old. She had just stopped fighting with Giada then-Vance (who was dating that Belby boy she could not stand) over her being a terrible person about the baby, and was working at Madame Malkin's. Her life was a sad mess. She was a lot more apt to be just plain rude instead of tactfully speaking her mind, and everything was me-me-me. She definitely had zero maternal interest in her child who was at this point probably in full-time Aubrey custody. Her life kind of sucked, but she wasn't really that interested in changing it. She's one of the few characters that shared a lot with her PB's source character, and I think it's been really interesting to watch them evolve together over the last five years, and I use it a little like a marker for Rachel. I'd want to be Blair's friend more than Rachel's, though LOL, I'll be honest.
RACHEL CORNER

circa 2012/1983
A lot sort of happened in the interim of these time points. She started working at St. Mungo's, she had a relationship with a half-blood! Who motivated her to get more involved with her daughter's life. She learned to assert her power in a more tactful way, like how you catch more doxies with honey than vinegar. She's a lot more poised now, and she actually strikes me as being quiet (not that I think she was all that chatty before). I feel like she communicates a lot by eyebrow LOL. After the amnesia (long story), she sort of became a hybrid of old-Rachel and nice-Rachel. She got married and got two more kids, one of which she had to deliver and was not pleased about. Rachel still is not maternal, but she has a strong sense of family? And because it makes Gabriel soo happy, NOT THAT SHE'S PLEASED ABOUT THIS OR WOULD EVER SAY SO, she'd pretty much do anything for that. She has been BROKEN.
GRETA DAHLIA LIESBETH CATCHLOVE →

circa 2008/1979
LOL WELL there was Tiffany-Greta in the beginning who may have been an Amber Heard PB and was a terrible bitch. Then when I got her, Greta was like her sister's shadow in the beginning. She was really quiet, afraid to branch out or do anything without Ingrid's approval, and felt a bit like a fish out of water when she had to strike out on her own. Firsts came so much later and harder for her than they did for the other people in her family, and even her friends, so I think her self-confidence took a long time to build up. She was definitely one of the brainier students of their house, and felt there was a stigma attached to that, and wouldn't like to oppose the majority even if she heartily disagreed. She was extremely loyal though, and I think that reaction would have superseded a lot of her other traits.

Also since Thora-Greta was active for like five minutes, this is probably a more accurate Greta representation of that era.
GRETA CATCHLOVE

circa 2012/1983
She has her life much more figured out. There has definitely been independence established from her sister/family, so she's more her own person now. I think overall she's just more comfortable with who she is. Over time, she's also gotten a lot louder, and less afraid to JUST BE HERSELF IS THE THEME HERE. Greta's accomplished some pretty cool things, like getting to work with the Order of the Phoenix and banging a rising star Quidditch player (not listed in order of importance). She's also had some not-cool things happen to her, like the deaths of some good friends because of the war, which has definitely shaken her a little. That and the journalism world has made her a little tougher and more cynical. And thanks to a handy little concussion in '80, she's become proficient at incorporating cheese in all her recipes and is working on a book that recounts all these amazing finds.
SEVERUS SNAPE →

Nope.
SEVERUS SNAPE

Uh-uh.
DEREK DOYLE DOBBS →

circa 2008/1979
He's always had a little bit of an edge to him since leaving school/becoming a Hit-Wizard, but I think he was still pretty carefree even with the M.A.G.I.C. act being passed. It was more like this naive, righteous anger... he still felt like he could make a difference, etc. He still had Dorcas, who even though she had a lot of her own issues, balanced him really well. Vinny wasn't around, but he had Dimitri and (not yet technically BUT) Edward, and his girls, so everything was okay. He was really sarcastic, teasing, crossed lots of lines, and didn't always play by the rules. Friendly, liked to laugh, pretty open and honest.
DEREK DESMOND DOBBS

circa 2012/1983
Derek has deeefinitely gone off the rails in the last three years. It started with losing Dorcas, and then slowly pretty much everyone else in his life. He's a lot more reserved, and he really doesn't talk/interact with people. There are a set number of people in his life that he'll interact with and may even achieve some sense of normalcy with, but anyone else is just Other. He can't deal with that, and he doesn't know if he'll ever really be able to. Vinny moving in helped a lot, and I think for him at least, it's an extremely co-dependent relationship that's healthy but not? They've both lived pretty much the exact same situation, so if one slides back, the other might too, but there's also strength there. He's thrown himself into work, for sure, sometimes to the detriment of his health. Very recently, he's started to realize he needs to get his life back together, so that's happening... slowly... veeeeery slowly...

And he made me change his middle name, idk why.
ELLSINORE BEATRICE BRANSTONE →

circa 2008/1979
In the beginning, I didn't really know WHAT to do with her. I had nooo idea about her family or background or... personality, even, at all. It took a really long time for that to develop, but even from the get-go she was shy and quiet, and I had the sense that she hadn't had the easiest life. She bounced around in terms of career, and I know her dad had died only a few years before, and that still had her a little messed up. I liked her because she was different from who I had up to that point, she was really serious, but there wasn't really a place for her yet. Half-baked!
ELSIE ALDERTON

circa 2012/1983
Now with face-change! Slowly the pieces fell into place and I realized she's got a heinous witch for a mother and she and her brother drifted apart a lot which hurt her. She's a drop out Trainee from the Healer program, which was for personal reasons, but it still makes her feel like a failure. Meeting Elliot really did a lot for her in terms of self-confidence and feeling like she belonged. This pairing actually gets me a little teary if I really think about it. The werewolf thing obviously changed them both, but it revealed that she's a scarily loyal person and she loves extremely deeply. I think of all my characters, she's arguably the most devoted to her partner, by a combination of personality and circumstance. The baby... is terrifying to her. Even without the prospect of something going wrong because of the werewolf business, a child would be scary. On top of that, she doesn't know what's going to happen to them, and that's worse. But she's a fighter, if one of quiet reserve.
