Personal History:
Marcus Alan [LASTNAME] came into the world in the spring of 1983, the first if two children born to a stable, though not overly affectionate couple, living in a modest home just outside of [CITY]. His father was a [OCCUPATION] and his mother a [OCCUPATION]. They weren't the most wealthy family out there, but they did well enough to get by.
Marcus was 6 when his little sister was born and he found he loved being an older brother. He helped him mom and dad with the baby, always wanting to hold her and play with her. As she grew older, he would sometimes grow weary of her constant attention and chattering, but it wasn't because he didn't love her to pieces.
A bright, inquisitive child, Marcus found that he enjoyed school. He did well in his classes and even made his fair share of friends.
While there was no one serious, Marcus did date a handful of girls while he was in school, but it wasn't until after graduation that he met Sarah. Marcus was instantly infatuated. He began to court her and soon they fell into a relationship that grew serious quickly. Within the year he was proposing and by his 24th birthday, they were expecting their first child together.
Marcus was so excited to be a father. The pregnancy hadn't been 100% planned, but he was ecstatic when she told him. The next several months were filled with so many plans for their baby and their future. Before they could welcome their child into the world, though, the unthinkable happened. A car accident claimed the life of his wife and unborn baby. Devastated by the loss of his wife and child, Marcus sunk into a depression. He became sullen and antisocial.
It's been about eight months now since Marcus' world was ripped apart and he's still nowhere near ready to move on. His inability to deal with his grief has cost him his job. He's living off his savings, avoiding the world and drinking far too much. Many of the people around him think he should have moved on with his life by now, but Marcus just can't see a way out of the depression he's fallen into.
Personality:
As a child, Marcus was quiet, but inquisitive. He has a bright mind and nearly always had a book in his hand from the time he could read. Learning has always come easily to him and he tends to absorb knowledge quickly.
Marcus loves mystery novels in particular. He enjoys figuring things out, which is probably a part of how he ended up working as a [JOB]. It was a job that suited his personality well. He's not athletic and during school he spent a good amount of time in the library. It seemed natural that he'd be doing some kind of research in his career once school was over with.
He is friendly when approached, but Marcus is fairly introverted. He's a quieter sort and can be quite moody at times. Marcus doesn't handle tragedy or disappointment well at all, as evidenced by his reaction to the loss his wife and unborn child.
When Marcus is in one of his broody moods, he likes to be alone. He'll find a hiding spot and sit there mulling over his thoughts, wallowing in his misery, until he's ready to face the world again. It's not fair to the people who care about him, but Marcus is a bit of an emotional retard and he doesn't know how to share his feelings with others.
Marcus is good with kids. He was really looking forward to being a father one day, but he just can't stomach the thought of doing it without the love of his life. Eventually, he'll move on and be a great dad, but right now he's still mourning Sarah and can't begin to picture a life with someone else.
Physical Description: Marcus stands at 6'0 and has a normal weight of about 180lbs, though he has definitely lost a noticeable amount of weight in the last several months. He wears his dark brown hair cut short and he is normally very well groomed. Lately, though, he's let himself go a little more. He goes days without shaving, his hair has grown longer and his general appearance is a lot less polished than it used to be.
