IC.

NAME: Michael Ethan Corner.
AGE: 16.
DOB: 26 October 1979.
HOUSE/YEAR: Ravenclaw / 12th.
SOCIAL STATUS: Far from one of Hogwarts social elite, Michael falls somewhere on the middle of the aristocratic ladder. Although the Corner name itself carries some weight, Michael's own family has long been cut off from the Corner fortune that would have placed him amongst the likes of the Greengrasses and the Patils. His mother's own background is questionable, with no coherent lineage and no clearcut family tree to be established - and, since Christopher Corner is indeed a fallen man in the eyes of England's aristocracy, he's had to make his own way in the world without the comfort of knowing that daddy can pick up all the pieces should he fail. While the Corners certainly haven't risen to nouveau riche status, they do have enough money to live comfortably, and are the epitome of middle-class respectability.

APPEARANCE: Michael errs on the plainer side of fairly good-looking. He's got the broad shoulders and tall stature to merit a second look (or even a third, if he's lucky), but he's far from the world's next Brad Pitt. While ladies do often find him attractive, there's nothing specific about Michael that stands out - he doesn't have amazing cheekbones, or model hair, or even extraordinary eyes. He's just a simple boy whose features happen to meld together in a rather aesthetic way. He's got the standard dark brown hair, and the standard dark brown eyes, and they're quite a nice matching set, really.
DESIRED PB:
PERSONALITY: Michael Corner is, first and foremost, a Ravenclaw. No, this doesn't mean he's a) eternally snarky b) a dorky loner with no friends or c) a dorky, eternally snarky loner with no friends. Though his actions don't necessarily always reflect this essential "Ravenclawness", his intellectual traits are inherent; they're a part of him, and influence every single decision he makes. While Michael isn't the type to always take others' feelings into consideration - why bother? - he always places a heavy influence on how said decision will affect him, if it will be beneficial, or if it will only serve to make his life that much more complicated (and during this turbulent time in the world, you really don't need any more complications). Michael is smart, he's intelligent enough to see things from more than one point of view, and the world, to him, isn't always entirely black and white and red all over (although he knows a really excellent joke regarding something that is). Yes, he can be careless at times - his emotions are strong, and can often get the better of him - but it should be noted that Michael tries to be meticulous about everything he does...and, I mean, it's not really his fault if he fails, is it?

That said, Michael's a very passionate individual - he feels things strongly and, if something doesn't go his way, he can become fairly petulant and vindictive. Such was the case in his fifth year, when he dated Ginny Weasley; Michael's extremely devoted to football and thus, the Gryffindor victory wounded his pride deeply. Now, Michael's pride is something he also treasures quite greatly - like any good Ravenclaw, he enjoys being right, he enjoys being successful, and can therefore become exceedingly annoyed if he isn't any of these things. Knowing that his girlfriend had come out on top, instead of him, irked Michael to an almost unbearable end, causing him to sulk quite a bit whilst in her company. It can be assumed that Michael hates being the 'weaker' one, the 'lower' one in a relationship - he has an inherently dominant nature, and thus, his relationship with Ginny could be said to have been doomed from the start. Yes, Michael likes a challenge; he is attracted to women who are strong, but he also falls easily out of like with them, as well. That's not to say Michael refuses to grant his girlfriends any allowances; he doesn't mind them winning if he is the one allowing them to do so - or thinks he is, at any rate.

Michael is also intrinsically opportunistic; he is intelligent enough to see a true advantage when it's there, and will do anything within his power to make sure he's the one holding all the cards. Yes, he's somewhat manipulative - Michael will go along with things if it allows him to get in another's good graces, such as when he joined the DA to be with Ginny. He didn't particularly care for Potter's little club, or his defense lessons, but she did - and perhaps, if she was happy, she'd be amenable to granting him some 'allowances' of her own.

Now, that isn't to say that Michael's always duplicitious; if a person earns his trust, his admiration, he will defend them when the time calls for it. The only two people at Hogwarts to really have done so, to the extent that he'd die for them, however, are his two best mates, Terry Boot and Anthony Goldstein. Yes, Michael has other friends (refer back to concession b above), ones he cares about, but he wouldn't necessarily be inclined to 'defend their honour against all odds'. After all, he's no Gryffindor.

DEFINING CHARACTERISTICS: While Michael Corner may not appear to be the brightest crayon in the proverbial box, there's definitely a lot going on behind those big brown eyes that people just aren't always able to see. Though his actions don't always reflect the traits that placed him in Ravenclaw House, they're inherently a part of him, influencing each and everything he does - he's clever, he's thoughtful, and although Michael may occasionally act before he thinks, it's also a given he'll be able to think up a damn good excuse if his impromptu actions land him in a bit of a tough spot. All in all, Michael tries to think things through before making a decision - he's one of those rare types who're able to look at both sides of an issue objectively, and thus decide which of those sides would yield the most beneficial result for him in particular.

LIKES: Ravenclaw, the colour blue, football, Newcastle United, winning, Terry, Anthony, Alice, Padma, Mandy, Kevin, video games, fit girls, competition, mock-rugby games, Playboy, Bruce Wayne, rock of the loud and obnoxious variety, maths, history, debate, pepperoni pizza, things going his way, Cho Chang, Morag MacDougal.
DISLIKES: Idiots, art, Cornfoot, tennis, the royals, boredom, losing face, not succeeding, the colour green.
INSIDE SCOOP:
1) Michael refuses to ever drink caffeinated beverages - no tea, no coffee, no soda. It has nothing to do with being healthy, but moreso just because he believes that having SOME sort of inane cause makes him more attractive to the birds.
2) He keeps a To-Do list. It's hidden deep, deep in his trunk, but nevertheless, it's still there, and he updates it daily. Considering the disorderliness of everything else in his life, Michael needs to have some way to stay organised.
3) He's contemplating breaking things off with Cho Chang.
4) Michael's always had the urge to try out for the rugby team at Hogwarts, but a) he's far too attached to football to give it up and b) he's somewhat paranoid that he'll end up flattened on the field.

HISTORY: Michael Ethan was born on July 25, 1980, to a Jaclyn and Christopher Corner in a purely middle-class area of Durham. While Christopher Corner may very well have been from a more upper class family, he had agreed to live in this slightly downtrodden neighborhood for the sake of his wife, who wasn't altogether approved of by the rest of the Corners. Thus, growing up, Michael wasn't exposed to a great deal of aristocratic society; yes, his father would occasionally take him to visit his grandparents, but overall, Michael's life was predominantly steered by the influences of his small-town neighbors and family.

Despite his location in Durham, Christopher was employed by the Ministry, and would often be called away for days at a time to London. Jaclyn, on the other hand, was a stay-at-home mother; while Christopher's own job paid moderately well, the Corners never exactly had a surplus of money, having been cut off from Christopher's family, and its fortune, upon their marriage. There was always just enough - at times, barely enough, but Jaclyn and Christopher made do. It was early on that they made the difficult decision to raise Michael as an only child; this way, they were able to afford paying for a good education, and any odds and ends he may have desired. As can be assumed, Michael was spoiled to the extent that the Corners' were able to do so - he certainly wasn't pampered like Draco Malfoy, no, but he wasn't lacking as much as Potter, either...in fact, you could say his family life was only borderline dysfunctional!

Although Michael was hardly the epitome of aristocratic society, his last name meant just enough to earn him a spot at the elite Hogwarts. Jaclyn was, as can be expected, rather reluctant to let her son go off to some boarding school where she'd be unable to see him for most of the year, but Christopher was able to persuade her to give in -- after all, Hogwarts had a name, had a reputation, and was quite possibly the best place for their son to earn his education.

On September 1st, 1991, when Michael first boarded the train, he was completely unsure as to what he could expect. Being a naturally outgoing individual, he quickly found several new first-years to sit with; however, none of them actually ended up being in his House, and thus, these brief friendships, if they could even be called such, dissipated fairly quickly (which was hardly surprising). Although he wasn't exactly there to witness the ordeal, there can be no doubt the Heads of Houses at Hogwarts spent a good deal of time deliberating on Michael's choice of House. Hufflepuff and Gryffindor were out of the question, for obvious reasons, but Slytherin? Michael had the ambition, the cleverness - but, not being the Spawn of Pure Evil, he was shunted off to the House of Bookworms, where he became fast friends with the rest of the new first-years, most notably Anthony Goldstein and Terry Boot.

Over the years, Michael continued to excel in his studies and forged many a friendship with other students at Hogwarts. He joined the DA in his fifth year whilst dating Ginny Weasley, but soon developed an actual interest in the techniques taught. He didn't like Potter, no, but the club itself seemed beneficial - and Michael wasn't one to turn down such an opportunity.

Despite his somewhat 'dsigraced' lineage, Michael wasn't altogether worried about what his bloodline meant for him. He befriended the people who didn't care about such things, scoffed at those who did, and generally led a life devoid of any huge personal conflict regarding his origins or his questionable background. In fact, his entire life was characterized by remaining decidedly neutral about these sorts of things; Michael wasn't one to get involved in a fight that wouldn't yield him a clearly beneficial result - it was for this reason that he chose not to voice his clearcut opinions regarding Voldemort, Inc. He realised that the company wasn't quite the helpful organisation it made itself out to be, but as he wasn't directly being affected by its nearly dictatorial habits, Michael simply didn't care. After all, he was a teenage; all he really wanted to do was concentrate on his friends, on school, on girls - he wanted to live his life, and conveniently ignore the havoc being wreaked around him.
