Rita!
Bess had absolutely no desire to return to the real world, but she had this responsibilty known as a daughter, and that had to be taken care of. She apologized profusely to Adam for simply disappearing, but her brother had always understood her. She and Sadie went home, Sadie noticing the misery her mother seemed to be carrying with her. Bess had no intention on telling her what happened to Fabian, maybe not now, or maybe never, but she let her daughter's gentle touch reassure her that things would, eventually, be okay.

Pushing her shopping cart, Bess hummed slightly as Sadie sang an incoherent version of a song they had heard on the wireless before. Grocery shopping, as monotonous as it was, always seemed to calm Bess down, and she was doing an extra careful, slow job at it today. Anything that could relax her worried, frantic mind, she'd be up for.

"Do you want to make a cake?" Bess asked Sadie, grabbing a mix. Maybe she'd make one for Derek, for keeping her from doing something stupid. "Yes--for my friend Derek, would that be fun?"

Sadie clapped and wiggled in the cart, "Choklit!"

Rita had been hiding behind a newspaper. She had been tracking Bess Zeller since the Prewett death. She didn't want to trace Chittock because she knew Gleny would shut her down as soon as she saw her. The red talons she'd soon become famous for were tapping impatiently. Standing at the end of the aisle with one eye peeking over the newspaper she smiled a wry smile at Sadie. Children, so cute and so gullible. Rita was just happy the Zeller had finally gotten out of her house.

Chance was knocking on her door and she decided to leap at the chance.

She set down the paper and with a fake, cheesy smile she approached Bess and Sadie, "Chocolate sounds good. Ms. Zeller how're you today?" Her smile spreading into a grin.

Bess' head shot toward the voice, expecting someone she knew. But, she had no idea who this woman was, and her hand dropped the box of cake mix onto the shelf and she went to grip onto the handle of the car. Why did she know her name? Bess' mind raced; maybe she was a client of Brady's? She hadn't been working there that long, but she did recognize the regular faces and...no, nothing.

"Excuse me?" she said, her hand going to Sadie's shoulder. After everything, Sadie's kidnapping, their home, Fabian, Bess hated taking her out into public but it was unavoidable. They couldn't live in a bubble, she wouldn't let her daughter suffer that way. But she still got nervous, and ran her hand down her daughter's arm in reassurance. "Do I know you?"

"Oh my goodness. Forgive me. Rita Skeeter at your service." Her eyes sparkled. This was going to be extremely amusing. "I'm just trying to clear up a few things for my fans out there. I was wondering if I could get you to comment on a few things. You have a lovely little girl. What's your name darling? I'm Rita."

Bess Zeller was interesting enough. Her informant was proving to be quite lucrative. If she got a comment or not she could stay make a juicy story on the front page of the Life section. She wanted to squirm with anticipation but kept her excitement and adrenaline down.

Interviewing fresh bait always excited her. With a clear of her throat she waited with bated breath for Bess to respond.

Her hand went up to stop Sadie from responding, and Bess' shoulders scrunched in annoyance. Rita Skeeter? The gossip writer? Bess felt her cheeks heat up as it was suddenly coming to her; Fabian? Did she--want to talk about Fabian? The thought alone nearly made her ill, and Bess shook her head quickly, her hands going back to the handle of the cart and pushing away quickly. Sadie began to whine that they forgot the cake mix, but Bess hushed her quickly.

How could--someone want to bother her with talking about him? So soon? The funeral had only been yesterday and---

Fucking people. Bess had to stop the cart as the aisle became crowded because of some bloody sample table. She ducked her head and tried to get Sadie's mind off of the cake.

She picked up the cake mix and ran towards Bess. Bess was not going to get away that easily. Rita grinned as they approached the large amount of people. "You forgot your cake mix Ms. Zeller."

"Do you have anything to say about Fabian's death? How about the fact the two of you had arranged lunch on the 31st and he died on the 1st and you were no where to be seen? What about the rumors of an anti He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named group? Do you have any comments?" She had rushed out her Quick Quill and levitated the parchment.

She handed the cake mix to Sadie with a smile.

Bess didn't reach out for the cake mix, but whipped toward the woman with a fierce glare. How dare she. What she and Fabian did was no one's business. She was there, she was waiting for Fabian when Veronica came and delivered the news, what did this bitch know?

"Excuse me," Bess said again, her teeth clenched as pushed through the crowd. She didn't care about the glares or the angry remarks. She needed to get away from Skeeter and she needed to do this now. Sadie's whines turned into cries about the cake mix, and Bess was exasperated, "We've got stuff at home, Sadie! S'alright!"

Rita knew when to back off and this was the time. She smiled again, "I think I've got what I need." She set the cake mix down and walked away contently. With a flick of her wand she undid the charm parchment and stashed her quill away. She had more than enough to write an article whether it was truthful or not. Who said a gossip column had to be truthful. With a wave of her hand she grinned and said over her shoulder, "Tell Chester I said hello. You can always reach me at the Daily Prophet if you want to have a heart to heart."
