Kobe!
The coma that Jonas was in wasn’t a natural one. It was a magically induced one to keep him from suffering through the pain of the reconstruction of his body from a heap of mauled flesh and broken bones. Dozens of charms had been used on him to hold his broken pieces in place, to help him breathe, and a host of other remedies that were medically required to bring him back from near-death. There was an IV in his arm so that he could receive fluids and tonics straight into his bloodstream. It chilled his body, so blankets were tucked neatly over him as he lied, there, in the hospital bed in his ward.

He looked pale but comfortable. The gashes and scrapes on his face and body had almost healed entirely and most of his bones had been repaired or re-grown to fuse together. His hair was still messy and a crucifix hung around his neck, over his hospital robe. The nurses and healers bustled around him day after day as they waited for him to show signs of being on the mend, but there hadn’t been much good to report thus far.

Jonas was also peacefully unaware of the other hoopla that had been generated around him. His family and friends were gathered in the waiting room as they worried themselves and tried to comfort his poor wife and mother, who had been hysterics ever since laying eyes on his battered form. If he knew of the drama he was creating, it would terribly upset him, but a coma was oblivion.

On the twelfth day of his hospital stay, Jonas’s healers made the decision to release him from his coma. He didn’t awake right away, so his family wasn’t alerted, but eventually, he groggily roused out of his deep slumber. The world was a blur as he slowly flapped his eyelids and his hearing was foggy. He tried to raise a hand to wipe at his eyes, but found that to be terribly painful. He would have yelped, but the coma had taken his voice, too, and it came out as a dry murmur as he laid his heavily bruised hand back to the blankets.

Jonas continued to blink in his dazed state as he watched a nurse come toward him and after checking his vitals, lift a small cup to his lips. The water dribbled down Jonas’s front as he tried to drink, finding it difficult to do when one could use his hands and had a shaky jaw, but the water was like heaven on his throat. Clearing it, he suddenly found a low, croaky tone.

“My wife,” Jonas said as the nurse dried his chin. “Where’s my wife?” And why, in the name of Zeus, was he in this place?

There was a lot of white noise buzzing around her. Kobe sat in the center chair of the waiting room, legs pulled up off the ground and perched on the seat, her arms being used as a pillow. Jonas' mother and sister were around, probably talking to her mother, or father, or one of her cousins. It didn't matter. Kobe didn't want to talk to them, she didn't want to talk to Jonas' friends, she didn't want to talk to the nurses who provided blankets and no news. She just wanted to talk to her husband, she wanted to hear Jonas' voice. That was the only thing that could knock her out of the stupor she had been in for twelve days.

First she'd been in hysterics, and while Kobe couldn't figure out how she got out of that madness (she had a feeling the healer staff put something in one of her drinks), it was all her mind could manage. No thoughts stayed in her head for more than a second, and she couldn't focus on anything other than her husband. Hysterics had slowly made their way into calm, almost accepting state, where she was thanking his family and friends for being so supportive, and was actually optimistic about things.

Now, though, as they were nearing two weeks of her husband being completely unresponsive, Kobe felt like she was going to be sitting here forever, in this uncomfortable chair, without ever getting to hear Jonas' voice again.

"He's asking for you, Mrs. Ackerly? Can you hear me?"

Kobe blinked, not having heard or seen the nurse that was standing in front of her. Who was asking---Her eyes widened as the information began to sink in. He was asking for her---Jonas was asking for her? Kobe's mouth kept itself in a tight line, unsure if she wanted to get excited before she could see him for himself, and thankfully the nurse ushered her away before the rest of the waiting room mob could figure out what was going on. Her steps to the room were all too familiar; she'd come down this corridor at least ten times an hour. The light of his room was as always, and Kobe followed the nurse in but didn't make it very far into the room.

"Oh---" she let out as her gaze fell on Jonas. His eyes were open, he was looking around---she gasped when he looked at her, "Oh---" Kobe couldn't make another sound as tears began to pour from her eyes and she hurled herself toward the bed, dropping into the seat that she'd settled by his bedside to keep a constant vigil.

It had been explained to Jonas in vague terms that he'd been performing at the peace rally when the dark wizards attacked, that part he remembered, and been beaten to a pump by one of the said dark wizards, that part he didn't recall. In a sudden anxiety, he tried to ask if the others at the rally had faired, but the words weren't coming out right. His brain was still sluggish and all the nurses and healers had dared tell him was that there had been casualties. That made him feel sick, though he was still too high to really feel sick so it was more of a light queasy feeling. All he wanted, now, was to see his wife, his family, his friends.

And then there she was. His beautiful girl was standing in the doorway looking stoic and unharmed. It hurt his heart when she threw herself at the bed like he'd been gone for weeks. He then realized he hadn't thought to ask how long he'd been in the coma.

Though it ached, Jonas lifted a hand toward her to reach out to her, trying to touch her hair, her face, and everywhere else to make sure that she was all right. He managed to finger a lock of hair between his creaky fingers.

"Don't cry, love," he said in his weak, but still throaty tone, seeking out her gaze. "M'all right. Just a few bumps. Me head's harder than we all thought."

She sort of wanted to yell at him. Kobe pulled her head up and stared almost crazily at Jonas, like he had three heads or purple warts and---just a few bumps? She was glad for his touch and she was even happier to see that his good nature and sense of humor were in still in tact, but--just a few bumps?

Her mouth moved like a fish out of water. A great big part of her wanted to inform her husband that his body had basically been shattered by the death eater attack, and that seeing him that way had made her want to die and just---Why would she want to rack that guilt onto him? Jonas had done nothing wrong, all he had wanted was for everyone to be happy and to spread love and joy, so---Kobe smiled, putting her hand on his to press his palm against her face.

"Thank God for that hard head," she managed, sniffling to try and stop her tears. Kobe leaned forward and touched his cheek, letting out a breath at seeing a reaction from him. It had been too long.
