"Al--ice?"

Okay, logically speaking, his wife could be doing a lot of things in the guest bathroom. Women tended to do that; do strange things that would take a very long time in bathrooms and all the time he, Frank, never understood. And he wasn't supposed to, because it was a girl thing. He got that. But--- okay, whenever girls took forever, they never came out sounding worried, so why would Alice be writing to him, from in there? Sounding very worried, he might add, which made him worried because whatever made her worry made him worry because Alice was very level headed, therefore very keen into the levels of needing to be upset.

Frank threw his journal to his feet, and leaned into the side of the wall next to the door. What was he exactly suppose to say to her, when he didn't know what was going on. It couldn't be bad, because if it was something like that, then she would have told him already. Or--- she was waiting until now. No, no, that was silly; nothing was wrong. Alice was just probably feeling sick, and she needed him to bring her things to make her feel better.

That thought comforted Frank much more, and he relaxed a bit. "What's going on?" he said through the wall.

Her striped blanket was wrapped tightly around her shoulders and over her head. She'd had this blanket since her first day at Hogwarts; her mother had forgotten to pack it, and Alice wrapped herself up in it so tightly that she rolled off the bed in the middle of the night because she couldn't move her arms. It was just warm and it made her feel better, and---she definitely needed to feel better now.

She could be pregnant, for God's sake.

When she sat down and thought about it, the idea of having a baby wasn't horrible, it would just be the timing that would fudge everything up. They still had a lot in their training to accomplish, the war was getting worse and worse everyday, and she didn't know how to change a diaper. Yes, Alice was quite sure that it made no sense to have a baby if you didn't know how to change a diaper, and she simply had no idea.

"I---" she started, tears welling up in her eyes at the sight of the potion vial. Oh, it was only about five minutes now, but she needed Frank to be with her when the results came. Alice had no idea how she would really take the news, and she unlocked the door. "Frank."

She pouted greatly at the sight of her husband and then used her chin to point to the pregnancy test. Oh hell.

Unugh, she was--- Frank's eyes went wider than ever, and he felt something heavy get stuck in his throat. A potion vial. In the bathroom. With Alice, crying. In her blanket. Okay, he knew what that of that meant put together, now. Frank stood there for a few moments, not even trying to hide the fact that he was stunned. This was, this was--- what did it mean? Had it already-- no, it couldn't have, which meant that--- holy hell. He licked his chapped lips, blinking slowly.

Oh--- kay.

He was not so much relaxed anymore.

Whatever he was feeling had to be pushed aside (and no doubts there, he couldn't even begin to explain the thoughts and emotions coursing through him) because he couldn't look anymore upset or shocked or worried in front of her because then it would send her into... a place he would rather not go. Taking a deep breath, Frank reached to take Alice's hand into his, and he shuffled her back into the bathroom.

"Everything will be---- fine," Frank said suddenly, taking the edge of the tub as a seat to let her sit on top of the toilet seat. Could it be really possible that they, well she, could have a child? Like--- now. He had never really thought about it before (well he had but not seriously because why would he want to freak himself out like that), but now that it seemed like it could be a reality, it was--- overwhelming. Good thing he was feeling very glazed over at this point.

How could everything be fine if she was pregnant? No, no things would definitely not be fine. She would have to drop out of the program, because surely they wouldn't allow her to--to get hexed and hurt and duel while pregnant! That just wouldn't do, no. Alice had not worked for seven years and these past few months just to--

--oh, that was a horrible thought, she was going to be a horrible mother.

She pouted at the thought, biting her lip hard (much harder than she should have) and kept hold of Frank's hand as her eyes stayed locked on the vial. It should be happening any second now---it would swirl and spark blue for a boy, pink for a girl, and if you weren't pregnant, it would swirl into a silver color and nothing more.

"If---" Alice started, really unsure of where she was going to go, but her mouth shut as the liquid inside the vial started to spin. Oh, she stopped breathing. Maybe not, because her grip on Frank's hand was tighter than she'd ever held it before, and you needed to breath to get that done and----it was silver.

Alice's head dropped, the blanket almost making her disappear. "Oy."

He never wanted to feel this feeling again. And Frank couldn't exactly describe what it was like, just that--- he didn't like it. Not exactly anxious, but he wasn't completely calm (hell, how could he be calm?). And, not sick feeling but, he was definitely sure his head was able to start spinning at any moment. And it wasn't even that--- whatever happened would be whatever would happen. He surely didn't feel like he was ready to be a father (oh--- fuck, okay now he was fairly sure his head was starting to spin), but if that was the way it was then... okay. Okay.

Okay.

He still didn't feel better about this.

And--- nugh, it didn't help that Alice looked so upset, which made him worry more because she was. Frank took a deep breath again, somewhat thankful that she was more focused on the vial than him (though his hand...). He almost didn't notice that it started to change color, but when it did, he couldn't take his eyes off it.

Wait--- what did silver mean! Silver could mean anything, anything at all! It should tell you specifically, in big bold red letters! Alice was long lost under her blanket, making it just very hard to simply ask her. But he had to, didn't he? He had to---- know.

"Is that.... good?"

She nodded from under the blanket, but because she was sure Frank wouldn't be able to tell what that was, she said, "Oh, I'm not pregnant."

Oh, she wasn't pregnant. So that meant she was just sick. With a fever, and nausea, and---she wasn't pregnant. Alice was sure this was a good thing, but a tiny, itty bitty voice in the back of her head pouted, just a bit. She really shouldn't have any maternal instincts right now (unlike Lily, which---she couldn't understand, but still did? It was strange--), but maybe the scare of being pregnant made her think about when she and Frank actually did have children and---

---oh, she couldn't think too hard right now. Alice sat up and let the blanket drop to her shoulders. She smiled lightly over at Frank, and slipped off the toilet to sit beside him on the tub, leaning heavily into his shoulder.

"Sorry for the fuss---I---couldn't see any other reason..."
