Who: Iris and Brad
What: First meeting (sorta), note exchanging, etc
When: Saturday (I know I know, it's Friday you say. But I have stuff starting at 10 am and going until probably 11 pm tomorrow so I do not have time to put this up tomorrow when it should go up)
Where: Hogsmeade

Hogsmeade day was glorious. She was a legal witch now, which was even better. It meant that her Da had no right to tell her she couldn't go to the village, and she was definitely taking advantage of that...even if it did mean that she had her own personal set of hitwizard body guards following her around, trying to act all cool and nonchalant about what they were up to. She sat in the Three Broomsticks, glad that they were meeting before the lunch rush. She'd told her roommates that they'd have to meet up later in the afternoon before she snuck off, and was now waiting patiently for Brad to show up. Ugh, she was so glad it was him and not someone like Barty Crouch. As long as he didn't end up being a total prat like Barty, she would love the Transfiguration help--wait, was he helping her with Transfiguration or just giving her notes? She couldn't remember.

Oh, bloody hell. Now she was going to be all flustered if she brought it up and he had no idea but--she sighed loudly at the distraction. She could hear the hitwizards murmuring in their corner, and tried her best to ignore it as she shuffled through the small bag of parchment and quills she had purchased first thing (it was never good to run low on those, after all). They probably thought she was a loon, sitting there at the table by herself--what sort of Hogwarts student spent their one afternoon of freedom hauled up in a pub without friends or--urgh, now she was thinking she was quite lame. Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe she should just--she quickly put everything back in her bags in an attempt to leave when she heard the tinkling of the door opening.

Brad was pretty excited for this Hogsmeade 'trip'. Which was weird, because not only was it his first one after leaving Hogwarts, he lived in Hogsmeade, so it wasn't like he wasn't there all the time, but this was the first one he got to be all auror-ish and shadow someone as they patrolled the streets. Brad was dressed in casual, civilian clothes so he could blend in easier with the crowd (that had been a plus for him, that he definitely still looked like a student) but had gone with a bit nicer shirt since he was meeting Iris beforehand.

Except that he'd totally not known she was his boss's daughter and now did thanks to some 'friendly' teasing in the locker room. But, it wasn't like a date right? He was just bringing her a copy of his notes (two sets, actually) and going to show her the waterproofing spell he'd figured out for notes. It wasn't like that picnic with Emmeline or the movie with Betty, and those were pretty much the whole of his dating experiences, but to him, this was definitely not a date. Brad checked his watch and pushed through the crowd, running just a tiny bit late. He managed to get through the crowd and not trip on the way into the door, but it was definitely a close call and Brad caught himself on a chair and looked around to see if anyone noticed.

He saw Iris standing up to leave and checked his watch again, "I didn't think I was that late!" he joked, coming up to her with a smile, "Are you late for something? I thought we were going to have something to drink..." Brad trailed off, a little hopeful. He gave a wave to the hitwizards at their table, but kept his eyes on Iris. If she wanted to leave he certainly wasn't going to keep her there, but well, having a cuppa before work with a pretty girl was not a bad deal at all. He offered his hand out to shake hers, "I'm Brad, by the way. Brad Madley."

Oh! He was here and now--she blushed, realizing that he'd caught her trying to sneak away. "Oh, no it wasn't--" she stopped, throwing a glare over her shoulder at the hitwizards. "I hate having an audience." And leaving wasn't going to make them go away. She took his hand slowly. "Iris...Conway." Er, right. He'd probably found out about that already.

"So...butterbeer?" she said, trying to sound as happy as possible with her voice. This wasn't so bad. They were just meeting to exchange notes...and she could always tell her Da mean, nasty lies about the hitwizards if they started giving her trouble. They probably deserved to get in trouble, anyways.

"Don't worry, they like this job as much as you do," Brad said with a genial smile, "Not that you're boring or anything, of course," he laughed nervously, motioning for her to sit down and pulling out the chair for her to sit down in. Brad was trying very hard not to berate himself for sounding stupid or like he was insulting her or something.

"A warm butterbeer sounds good. Its getting a bit chilly out now, yeah? I had to pull out my jumpers, renew the warming charms on them and such. I think I need a couple new ones though, last years got packed up with my mum's stuff," Brad shrugged, smiling slightly. "Oh, here," Brad pulled out the notes, "Ah, the top one is my notes from the first term, they're more loose and open to interpretation I guess. The bottom stack is my notes from the end of summer term, mostly useful for exam revising. I think you'll be able to figure out my shorthand."

Iris rolled her eyes. She didn't even want to think about how they figured out who would end up with babysitting duty. Ugh, what was her dad going to do when she started working in the department? When she finished up training and was a full fledged auror? He couldn't protect her for forever, and it was frustrating that he was still trying. "I wonder if they'd take a bit of bribe money to just leave me alone," she muttered lowly as she sat, throwing him a smile as a thanks.

"It is," she said, cutting herself off mentally from rambling about how stuffy the castle had been lately and that being out was way too nice. He probably didn't want to hear about school and Hogwarts or--yes, no talking about that. Her face brightened up when he pulled out the notes. "Oh, you're a bloody lifesaver!" she said happily, now looking over the notes quickly. "This'll definitely help! Thank you so much," she said, unable to hold back her grin. "I'll just--well, if I don't understand the shorthand, I can always ask," she said offhandedly, still looking through the notes a bit.

"I'm sure they wouldn't mind, but I don't think they'd take it," Brad laughed, smiling at Madam Rosemerta who came over. "A butter beer for me, warm please and two for the gents over there," Brad pointed at the hitwizards with a wink at Iris, "on me, and whatever she would like, please. Thank you." Brad settled into his seat and pulled off his scarf. He fiddled with his jumper sleeve, making sure his wand was in its holster right, just in case there was a surprise training exercise or something. One could never be too ready, with Auror Moody in charge of the patrol schedule this weekend.

Brad smiled at her enthusiasm, "Great, brilliant. Definitely don't hesitate to ask, right? I love transfiguration. I don't think it's my best area of study, but I got an O so I'm pretty sure the notes are reliable. If you need any other classes, make friends with Ravenclaws, some students leave copies of their study outlines each year for the following seventh years to build their study materials on."
