Who: Andromeda Black and Ted Tonks
When: September 1970
What: Ding, dong ...
Where: Train to Hogwarts!

When you were trying very hard to be the picture-perfect daughter as far as your mother was concerned in a house that consisted of people who wanted to maim the one person in the world who made you feel like you were even the least bit alive ... things were difficult. Summer at home had been hell, even with the distraction of being able to roam around the estate as far away from Bellatrix as possible.

She was sure that her sister suspected she was involved with Ted. Bellatrix had kept such a close eye on her for the summer that she hadn't even been able to send him letters, and Andromeda had a crippling fear in the pit of her stomach that Ted would think she'd given up on him and gone off to snog some other bird. He'd probably completely moved on by now.

Andromeda, normally confident and as cheerful as a Black could be expected to be, was nervous. She'd avoided getting onto the train until literally the moment before it started to pull away, and now as she stepped into the hallway she couldn't help but start to peer as casually as she could down the cabin. She scanned the visible areas for Ted to no avail ... which meant that he was probably in one of the private cabins.

Bah, this was going to take forever if she was trying to be subtle about it...

Ted had decided that his really boring, depressing summer was going to end with a really boring, depressing train ride back to Hogwarts. Ever since he and Andromeda had been secretly seeing each other, he'd felt a great excitement bubbling in his chest. No matter what, he could have been eating...bran cereal or something equally as boring and he'd still have that bouncy feeling of something exciting happening. A secret! With sexy results.

But the bubble had been burst after the first few weeks of break and Andromeda hadn't contacted him. He knew better than to send her letters, in case they got intercepted by her wretched sisters, but the fact that she hadn't sent him any post got him worried. Worried, and upset, because it meant that either they'd been found out, she was too scared to attempt to talk to him, or she'd chosen to please her family. Any solution to his lack of post was utterly depressing, and it had left him in quite the funk for the rest of the summer.

So he'd hijacked a cabin the moment he could. The recent Hogwarts years were rather slim in numbers so there were a few one-passenger only cabins scattered about the train. Ted had made some lie about being contagious with a rare string of the flu virus that had managed to keep any one peeking in to his cabin leave. He heard the door slid open and didn't bother lifting his head from the glass of the window, staring out at the passing countryside.

"I've got the flu," he coughed loudly, and rubbed his throat, "better get out of here."

After what felt like perhaps the tenth cabin that she'd checked, Andromeda had slid the door of Ted's single-person cabin open and heard the sound of his voice ... along with what was wretchedly fake coughing.

"I don't believe that for a second," she said quietly, sliding the door shut behind her and jamming the chewing gum she'd been going at into the lock for good measure. The last thing she needed was some nosy first-year coming in during something ... untoward.

She hadn't realized how much she'd missed him over the summer until this second, seeing him looking like a kicked puppy. She'd shrugged out of her robes the moment she'd gotten on the train and was holding them draped over her arm -- but she quickly found herself dropping them onto the ground of the crowded cabin and shuffling over to where Ted was situated to pull him in for a kiss that she was really hoping didn't come off as desperate.

He'd nearly fallen off the bench at the sound of her voice, throwing off the robes he'd been using as a blanket as she hurried toward him. Ted let out a sound of surprise into Andromeda's mouth and wrapped his arms around her, his hands pushing up her back as he pulled her down to him. See, he was a very loyal Hufflepuff, he'd accepted Andromeda's apology without actually hearing it. Besides, who denied one of the Black sisters a hello snog?

Ted kissed her fiercely, his hands sliding quickly down her back to grab at her waist, enjoying how she'd managed to end up sitting quite nicely on his lap. They'd always fit perfectly together, whether it be a cramped broom closet or behind a tapestry.

"Andy!" he let out the second they broke apart, his face lighting up in a great, bright smile. Ted couldn't stop touching her, his hands rushed up to take hold of her face, "I see I'm still quite snoggable!"

She felt a rush of relief flood across her as he pressed his hands against her, moving easily with his coaxing so that she was settled nicely in his lap. She ducked her head for a moment, cheeks flushed.

"I'm sorry," she said quickly, frowning. Andromeda had gotten ... better at actually apologizing for things when they were her fault rather than brushing them off and blaming someone who she thought was worth 'less' than her. "Things this summer were even worse than usual, especially now that Bella can cast all the bloody spells she wants." It made her sister torturing her just a tad more literal, and had made communicating with Ted next to impossible.

She kissed the corner of his mouth, unable to help the smile spreading across her lips again. "And yes, still snoggable. You didn't suddenly become hideous over the summer, thank Merlin." Hopefully he could tell that she was teasing him.

"But -- now she's gone, Ted." At least during the time that they were in school, they wouldn't need to be so very careful. Sure, they probably shouldn't broadcast things around other Slytherins, but it would still be much less stressful than it would've been otherwise.

The idea of a Bellatrix-free Hogwarts nearly blinded Ted with happiness. He was sure that all Bellatrix had ever seen of him and Andromeda were random talks in the corridors that to, well, everyone outside of the crazy girl, seemed completely innocent. A bit weird, seeing as he was a muggleborn Hufflepuff and she was a pureblood Slytherin, but for all that anyone knew Andromeda could have been threatening him for test answers. Bellatrix, however, sent him glares across the corridor that Ted was sure could kill if she'd been more able at wandless magic.

He was sure that Bellatrix had cursed him a few times, but she's always managed to escape his line of sight by the time he finished reacting from the zaps and the bruising----

His eyebrows furrowed, his grip on Andromeda's hips tightening, "Are you all right? Did she---?" Ted felt his chest clench in concern, sitting up straighter and looking her straight in the eye.

"I'm fine," she frowned as he tightened his grip on her, dropping her hands down to rest against his chest. "Shockingly enough, you can still punch someone in the face to stop them from casting a curse on you." Something that she proudly demonstrated to Bellatrix during a particularly heated argument.

Now was not the time to get all worked up over her sister, though. She was gone, and she was not going to be controlling her life any longer. She pushed out a grin that looked only a tad forced. "Don't worry about me."

He'd had enough trouble last year just deciding that he could be patient enough to see her. She didn't want him worrying about her.

That image got a loud laugh out of him. Ted looked shocked, but mighty proud.

"You punched Bellatrix?" he asked, astounded, except he completely believed it. Oh, what a sight that would've been! Andromeda must've hidden within the walls of her house to escape the tantrum her sister must have had after that. Ten grinned like a fool, so proud of Andromeda, but still so concerned. Her summer must've been hell, he should've done more for her.

"I'm sorry I didn't owl," he said, leaning forward to knock noses with her. Ted sighed, feeling mighty guilty now. Still very turned on, but quite guilty about it all, "I thought it'd cause more trouble than good..."

More like she'd been glad that her mother had insisted she take up running if she had to do a 'sport' that involved so much sweating. She'd had a good few seconds of head-start on her sister from the sheer shock of being physically accosted.

When he leaned in to bump noses with her, the smile on her face melted into a more natural one. "No, it's -- it was probably good, honestly. If I'm going to get kicked out on my arse from that house I'd prefer that it be after I graduate." The idea of not having any sort of means still terrified her right now, especially if she'd have to be living on her own and fearing the wrath of her older sister.

She slipped her hands into his and squeezed gently, tilting her head to press her lips against Ted's again a little more insistently.

"Now let's stop talking about my sister before I lose my sex drive forever."

If Ted was a better man, he would have resisted the urge to snog his girl senseless and begin to speak to her about the ramifications of her getting kicked out on her arse. That was a big deal, that was---he couldn't imagine never speaking to his family again, let alone knowing that they all thought of him as some literal stain on their family tapestry. Would they really throw Andy out of their lives? Surely some other members of their family had fallen in love with a non-pureblood before! What had happened to them?

Oy. Ted realized he did not want to know what happened to those people.

He deepened their kiss because he'd missed her terribly over the summer, and to get his mind off of the negative thoughts he'd had. They had another two years before they left the safety of Hogwarts; they had plenty of time to figure out what was going to happen if or when Andromeda's family found out about them. Or they could keep their relationship a scathingly hot secret for the rest of their lives, but Ted didn't think either of them would be happy about that.

"I dunno," he mumbled, "The Black sisters are every bloke's wet dream." Ted grinned against Andy's mouth, waiting for the smack that would most likely come.

Andromeda was all too aware of what had happened to those people who considered it proper to fall in love with non-purebloods. Being at home over the summer had certainly given her plenty of time to think about that. The idea made her consistently nauseous, but she'd just recently decided (upon realizing the anxiety in her stomach at the thought of not being able to find Ted and explain herself) that maybe there were other things that made her feel even sicker to her stomach. She'd spent quite some time trying to convince herself that this whole thing with Ted was just a rebellious stage that she would grow out of ... and that they were young, that she was probably not going to end up with him by the end of their 7th year.

The really twisted part of her wanted him to end things with her before then to save them both a great deal of pain and hassle, but she didn't think that Ted would. He was too sweet, too loyal, and too ... well, short-sighted, sometimes.

"Eugh," she pulled a face and gave Ted a smack on the arm, "That's disgusting. Don't tell me you fantasize about Bellatrix while you're having a wank, or I'm going to find a way to make sure you can never wank again."
