THE INTERIOR
i can't forget the time or place where we just met

FIRST IMPRESSION: More likely than not, your first impression of Joy is probably going to be pretty overwhemling. She's flirty, fun, and fancy free and loves to bombard anyone with giggles and hugs and squeals and the like. To men, she looks like an easy target, and that used to be not so far from the truth.
IN DEPTH: Joy's the kind of girl that you strove to be friends with during your school years. A bright, outspoken, popular girl (despite her inherent lack of general intelligence), she's friendly, outgoing, generally nice, and has a way of making people like her. But anyone who spends any good amount of time around her will realize that Joy can be a thoroughly fickle and silly type of person. Always having been spoiled by her father and having everything she wanted just fall into her lap, she whines and complains any time she actually has to work for something. Joy is a princess and expects to be treated as such. She doesn't appreciate ambition, even if it will get her something she really wants, and she has never been able to keep a job for long because she often fails to show up on time or actually do her job while she's there. It's fortunate for her that upon moving in with Finn she could take up a job as his personal assistant-it's the first job that she hasn't completely failed at, and she's finding she rather likes the luxury of the position.
Before meeting Finn and getting pregnant, Joy had never had too much regard for her taking responsibility for her own actions or her chronic spending or any of those other troubling things that she did. She always knew that they were getting her into a lot of trouble, but never really minded because she always had Daddy to bail her out… Now that she doesn't have her father in her life (at least not in that capacity), she's had to grow up fast and stop thinking about just herself. After all, now she's got a little life to take care of, and while Joy knows that she's bound to not be the best mother most times, she's determined to be at least a better mother than her mother was for her. For the first time in her life she's decided that she cares about something more than she cares about her looks and reputation, going as far to forsaking the idea of getting married to Finn (at least at first) so that Cormac can have two parents that can be there cooperatively for him.
She still likes to go out and look fantastic and live it up, but all of that now comes after Cormac. Joy's out to prove that she's capable of doing something right with her life and that she can be mature and adult (ah… to an extent) too.
LIKES: Boys boys boyyyyys!, shopping, gossip rags NOT ANYMORE AUGH, gossiping, partying, going to the clubs, buying super cute clothes!, looking fabulousss, Erin!, diamonds, money, Daddy, Tibs!, the Hobgoblins, Quidditch players (omigosh suuuuper hot!), Marlie!, Graeme!, being spoiled, being told she gorgeous (but duh, who wouldn't say she's gorgeous, right!? hee!), & flirting.
DISLIKES: Nasty people, homeless people, being told she can't do stuff, reading, learning stuff (like, so boring, right?), being told what to do, being yelled at, being rejected, Dorcas, geeky boys, spiders (ewwww!), any sort of reptile, mangy big dogs, being insulted, & vegetarians (like, soweird omigosh).
ALIGNMENT: Neutral
PATRONUS: Rabbit
BOGGART: Dropping Cormac and like, brain damaging him or something.
FAMILIAR: The McLaggens own three dogs--their "babies," even before Cormac and Talulah came into the picture. One is a beagle, Donnelley, one is a mutt, Donut, and the other is a French pug, Bentley.

THE EXTERIOR
she's just the girl for me and i want all the world to see we've met

HEIGHT: 5'8"
WEIGHT: 116 lbs -- and after a kid, hell yeah!
HAIR: Blonde
EYES: Blue
DEFINING FEATURES: There's a small birthmark on her left shoulderblade and while she used to try and cover it up, it really doesn't matter as much to her anymore.
MANNER OF DRESS: Being the fashionista that she is, you can be sure that Joy's always going to be dressing in the best and the latest, even though she knows that most people expect her to be more... mummy-ish about things. She figures that there's nothing wrong with being a hot mom, especially while she's young, so for now she's all about the glam and the couture and the designer clothing. Even when she was pregnant--her complaining about a lack of fashionable maternity wear became the idea for Psyke Smith's maternity collection.

THE LIFE AND TIMES
but as it is i'll dream of her tonight

BIRTHPLACE: London, England
CURRENT RESIDENCE: Puddlemere, England
SOCIAL STATUS: Upper class
HISTORY: Joy Charlotte Diserafino was both the second and the last child born to Christpher Diserafino and Adaleen Grant. Three years younger than her older sister and completely an accident on her parents part (something her mother told her from day one), she was the baby that was shouldered with the burden of having ended her parents four-year, albeit loveless, marriage.
Christopher, a rich Muggle businessman, and Adaleen, a pureblooded Squib, met when Adaleen went to work in his company at eighteen, after realizing there was no life for her in the Wizarding World. Christopher was taken with her right away, although he will admit that the connection was more of lust than love, and their brief, one-month courtship turned into a marriage only a week later. This, both sets of parents agreed, was extremely imprudent, until the hidden cause of a pregnancy came out days after the wedding.
It was only after a few months of living together that the two realized that they couldn't stand each other, but with a baby on the way, both were adamant to at least try and stick it out. Rosalie Lynette Diserafino was born August 17, 1956, and for a short amount of time, it seemed as if the little girl would actually serve to help bring Chris and Addy together again. Although they promised each other they would never have another child, they both loved Rosalie with all their hearts and wanted to stay married for her sake.
This lasted for exactly one year and four months. It came out to Christopher that Adaleen, who was an impulse spender and had always had trouble controlling herself, had over the past two years plunged the family into thousands of both galleons and pounds into debt. Extremely angry, but liable for the debt, Christopher dealt a blow to his company by paying off the debt through its finances. While their records were saved, the marriage was not. Within weeks there were divorce papers in Adaleen's lap.
Addy moved out onto with her own from the settlement, taking Rosalie with her, having filed for custody of their daughter in retribution for ending the marriage; the courts granted him visitation rights, but with the work he had to do to get his company back on track, he had little time to actually exercise them. Christopher became something of a stranger to Rosalie, which left him heartbroken and bitter. He threw himself into his work to forget about his failed family-he closed himself off to the outside world for months… until a certain ex-wife came suddenly back into his life on June 13, 1958.
Feeding Chris a line about how sorry she was and how much Rosalie missed him and how much she wanted to try to make everything work out again was all it took for him to take her back. After all, while he didn't really miss Adaleen herself that much, he missed his daughter and he was tired of being lonely. As it was with the first time, it took about a month before they decided to be remarried, Addy moved back in with Rosalie, and… she was pregnant again.
The Diserafino's could smell the disaster a mile away, but now that they were back together, they felt at least somewhat obligated to try again. They hoped this one would do what their first daughter had done for them, and keep them together-but Joy Charlotte Diserafino was born on March 28, 1959, and all that came from it was more problems. Adaleen, suffering from post-partem depression, had a hatred for Joy from the moment she came home from the hospital. Christopher didn't like the harsh, cruel, and generally neglectful manner in which she treated the infant, and a series of rows resulted. When the divorce papers came to Addy this time, she blamed it completely on Joy. Taking Rosalie with her again and shoving the infant off on her ex-husband, Adaleen disappeared afterwards.
Although Joy's childhood afterwards was run almost completely by nannies and she saw little of her father that didn't consist of him being worn out and too tired to play with her, they still grew close. Chris allowed Joy to fill the hole in his heart left by Rosalie, at the same time vowing to show her the love that her mother hadn't. She got everything she could ever want, anything she asked for and all that she didn't-he showered her with the best of everything, and while Joy at times wished that she could have him rather than just a prettily wrapped gift, she knew her father loved her and didn't complain.
Joy never really knew the story behind her mother or sister, but she always wanted to meet them-that wish came true on the eve of her eleventh birthday. Adaleen showed up on the Diserafino doorstep that night, and although she could hardly stand to look at her second daughter, she did fufill the obligation she felt she had to tell her and Chris about Hogwarts and her magical heritage, did she turn out to have the talent. Joy did have a magical ability, just like Rosalie-a short time later, she was at the school, sorted into Gryffindor, and mending the severed ties between she and her older sister.
Joy did not graduate Hogwarts with any honors or job offers, but she did move in with her sister in London and, while she and her mother were still estranged from one another, still stayed very close to her father. She procured a job as a waitress at the Three Broomsticks, but the small wages could not support the fancy lifestyle she was used to; Joy put herself in a load of debt, just like her mother before her, and had to call on her father to fish her out. Then again. And again.
Everything must come to an end, however, and that was exactly what happened with her father's doting and endless supplying of money. One night, at a close friend's birthday party, Joy went out and did something so stupid, so irresponsible, that it caused Chris Diserafino to completely cut her off forever-she went and got pregnant. With the baby of British champion Quidditch star and captain of Puddlemere United, Phineas McLaggen. At the same time, she lost her job at the Three Broomsticks, and Rosalie (who found out, and consequently told their father about the baby) kicked her out. Out of a home, out of money, and out of luck, Joy had no choice but to do the thing she feared most—tell Finn.
While it was lucky for her that he agreed to take her in, the two did not get along very well at all. After all, their unborn child (their son) had been the result of a drunken one-night stand, an event that didn't require much emotional attraction. After a few months of living together, however, Finn and Joy both realized that the other was much more like them than they would have at first imagined, and to both of their relief a friendship started to forge its way into their lives. For a long time (and still, really), Joy could easily tell people that Finn was her best friend--something people tended to find simply not enough with a child created between them. But then again, they truly believed that it was best for Cormac if they kept their relationship stable. No need to chance it on something that wasn't there and have everything fall apart.
... Well, that worked well in theory.
The truth, however, was that there was something more there, and after Cormac was born it became more and more difficult to ignore. After a few months of having casual sex--hey, don't judge, it's not like they were one-night-standing any more!--it became clear to both of them that maybe they didn't want to ignore what they were feeling. In March of 1979, after winning the Quidditch championship for the second year in a row, Finn flew over to Joy, kissed her, and told her he loved her right there in the middle of all that media. Just a little over a year later they were married, to the surprise of the many people who had watched their very interesting, backwards journey. And to put the icing on the cake? In late April, just as the honeymoon was ending, Joy discovered she was pregnant. Again.
