"I wish," she said. "Meetings all day." Anya let the armor come off and she walked over to Sarah. She put a hand on Sarah's shoulder.
"I'm sorry. Today and the importance of it completely slipped my mind and the only thing I can say is that I'm sorry and ask that you please forgive me."
Sarah tenses just slightly for a moment, then sighs. "You know I can never stay mad at you for long. Besides, I know how lucky I am to have any of this... you have the lab, I have the gym... things happen. You... know of any place still open at this hour that'd serve a romantic dinner for two?"
Anya gave Sarah a kiss. "I am sorry. You're more important than any meeting and I'm going to make it up to you. Starting with some dinner delivered and then kidnapping you to a tropical island for a few days."
Sarah returns the kiss, then rolls her eyes. "Tropical island, huh? Who is the one being rewarded here?" she teases. "Dinner sounds amazing though. How long have I been down here?" She can hardly blame Anya for losing track of time when she's just as bad most of the time.
"I don't know. It's close to ten pm already," Anya said a little sheepishly. She was supposed to be home at seven. Three hours late. Which for a Stark wasn't too bad, but Anya didn't want to always follow Stark bad habits. "You get showered and I'll put my amazing calling for takeout skills to use."
Sarah nods. "Only an hour and a half, ok. I kind of lose track on the nightmare simulations. Shower is a good idea though. What are we having for dinner?" Not that she was ever that picky, but never bad to know what to expect. "Or is that a surprise?"
Sarah shakes her head amusedly. "Ok, and if you would happen to know where any remaining ice cream is, or find a way to procure more, I might even not bring up the 'tropical island' vs. 'quiet cabin in the woods' debate again." she replies, packing up her few things for the gym and starting towards the bathroom for her shower.
"I'm sure I can dig some up," Anya said. Oh she knew where there was some ice cream. Anya was a Stark and that meant having to apologize quite a bit and she knew her wife's weakness. The freezer in the fridge in the lab was filled with Ben and Jerry's Americone Dream for occasions just like this.
Anya enjoyed the view as her wife walked toward the bathroom. Now to go order some food and fetch the ice cream from her secret stash.
There's a reason she mentioned it. She knows Anya keeps a stock somewhere - but doesn't try and find it, or ask, because she knows she really doesn't need to be eating /too/ much ice cream. Here and there, though, especially when she knows she's worked it off (were she honest, that would never be an issue, the way she attacks the gym, but she's as hard on her waistline as everything else) - its still her favorite treat. And it makes for great apologies.
Anya ordered a wide selection of Thai dishes and grabbed three pints of ice cream from her secret stash. She may have checked her email once, but that was it. Any work related issues could wait or be handled by Bridget.
Sarah comes back out of the shower dressed in old sweats, keeping her gym bag close at hand. She really shouldn't need it, but by now, its something of a safety blanket 'just in case'. Exiles road has never entirely left her, much as she's left it.
"Ooohh, something smells good." she says, as Anya is dealing with the food.
Anya paid the delivery man and gave him a very generous tip. "I hope Thai is okay," she said as she carried the food to the table. "Figured we haven't had it in awhile."
"Thai sounds utterly fantastic." she replies with some tired enthusiasm and definite sincerity. "And you're right, we haven't. Variety is good... even if you'd have burgers every night, left to your own devices."
"There's absolutely nothing wrong with burgers every night," Anya defended. "I just know you like variety." Anya pulled the containers out of the bag and set them on the table.
"I'm just teasing you, Beautiful. Long as I'm not having to scrounge and steal to survive again, I'd go with burgers, or Thai... or pizza every night and be all good with it. Nothing wrong with a little variety though."
"I want to spoil you as much as I can," Anya said. "You deserve it. You have to put up with me and my Starkness." Anya opened the containers and went to fetch spoons to dish out the food. She also grabbed two bottles of water while she was in the kitchen.
"I did have some idea what I was getting into when I married you. Besides, half the time I think you're spoiling you, and I'm along for the ride." she teases, settling in at the table.
"Maaaaybe," Anya said as she came from the kitchen. She placed the spoons on the table and leaned over to kiss her wife's cheek. "But I do love spoiling you no matter the why." Anya slid into her chair.
Sarah starts in on her food after giving her wife a grateful smile. "I appreciate it, believe me. And much as I'm still not sure about the appeal of the tropics, it will be nice to have a change of scenery for a few days."
"Yes it will be," Anya said. A thought entered her every working mind and she made a mental note to send an email to Bridget after dinner.
Anya was the one who loved the tropics, but this was about apologizing and spoiling her wife. The cabin in the middle of nowhere Russia was more Sarah's speed. It would take less than a minute to email her assistant to have the woman make the arrangements and have someone ready the place for visitors.
"Goodness knows we could both use a few days of peace and quiet."
That much is true. Anya loves being pampered and spoiled. Sarah loves peace and quiet. She happily goes along on her wife's vacations to resorts - and then tends to either take long swims, or lose herself in the gym facilities as wonderful excuses to avoid all the hair appointments, massages, tours and meetings, and get away from most of the crowds. For now, she's just content thinking they're going to go to a tropical resort, which will make Anya happy and get her away from work for a bit - both things Sarah is in favor of.
"Between Stark business and the Avengers, we haven't had much peace or quiet."
Anya will miss the spa facilities that would be present in a nice tropical resort, but this get away was for Sarah and that meant roughing it. Well what Anya considered roughing it. Any place that didn't offer room service or had spa facilities was roughing it in her book.
"No we haven't," Anya agreed. "Though we make it worse since we're both workaholics in our own ways."
They definitely have different definitions. Any time the food comes from a grocery store instead of scavenging and petty theft, and they have enough blankets, its not roughing it - its peace and quiet. For now, though, all that remains a surprise.
"And we probably always will, at least until you're ready to pass the company down somewhere and go on vacation full time."
Anya blinked. "Did you just say give the company to someone else and take a permanent vacation? Cause you couldn't have just said that. Cause that's total crazy talk."
Anya shook her head. "Besides, no one else but a Stark will run it."
