Lexie was quiet, the purple blooms clutched to her chest as she made her way down the long rows of marble that stretched out in front of her. She hadn't been back here in a decade and she almost didn't remember where her brother was laid to rest. A large oak tree caught her eye, sparking her memory. She made her way towards it, turning left and then moving over towards the headstone she recognized, the angel's wings spread wide, the head bowed over where her brother's casket laid, interred beneath the cemetery's grounds. She laid the purple blooms on the green grass beside the headstone, kneeling down in front of it. She opened her mouth to say something, but nothing would come out. The noise of her sobs echoed in the chasm around her and she reached out, gripping the side of the head stone in her fingers. The marble was cool to the touch, warming quickly under the heat of her fingers. Sobs continued to echo, even scaring some of the birds away. She tried again to speak, but all that came out were whimpered wails of her brother's name.

She bit down hard on her lip, taking a deep breath to calm herself. She was hysterical now and there was no going back. She had to ride out this wave of intense sadness. She leaned back against the headstone, whispering her brother's name, tears dripping down her face. She drifted off, not even realizing it until she startled awake. A crow sat at her feet, staring up at her with wide, unblinking eyes. It just sat there, making eye contact with her before jumping into the air and soaring away over the cemetery. Lexie smiled softly, resting her head back against the marble, peace settling over her.
