My cat calendar! I was very relieved to see this arrive, because it was a profits-for-charity thing and it'd feel rotten to complain about not recieving it. A book I mooched! It was coming from Israel so I didn't expect it yet. Ha ha, I got a package from Israel on Hanukkah! Goodies from a ![[info]](https://www.scribbld.com/img/userinfo.gif){kind=small} sinandsalvation fairy! Only one of the imps was one I'd even sniffed, and there were three goodies from e-tailers I hadn't even tried before! I think I may need to get a bottle of Cobalt Blends' Rehab.And the big joy I've been eagerly awaiting... Yules from Conjure Oils! See, when apocalypso23 announced her design-a-scent-for-Yule contest, rehd_fawx and I started musing in chat over what might work, and at the same time we independently thought of doing a Little Match Girl scent. Total fate for us to work on one together! We discussed what it might smell like, and while she worked on a gorgeous bit of Little Match Girl art, I re-read the Hans Christian Andersen tale to narrow down notes that would have an actual link to the story. I suggested a blend to her, she showed her artwork to me, we decided we had a worthy submission.Obviously apocalypso23 agreed; Little Match Girl was one of the winning blends! How awesome is that?And now I have the selection of Yule bottles that is my prize. I especially like Flannel Pajamas; all of you foodie-lovers should snag some before it goes away! And dang but rehd_fawx's art looks great on a bottle label. It was a lot of fun working as a team....this was a good meme, and well-timed. Good things have happened. |

A good mail day! My HolyClothing outfit finally came (the skirt is awfully long, the blouse is great), I got the bottle of Saint Lucia from the Conjure Oils order I went in on with shantih and bardsong, and my copy of the Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog came!Unexpected company! D. & N. stopped by and surprised me with some Lindt truffles! We watched Dr. Horrible. N. hadn't seen it! She seemed a bit surprised that it was so short. We watched some of the ELE application vids too, and I showed off my new outfit, and showed them my nice sharp talons that have been moldering in a totebag for years. It was a little unnerving, though, how much they make my slight hand tremor visible. A bellyfull of sausage pizza and Pepsi with falernum syrup. |

So, C&P'ed...[Unknown LJ tag] NnyeAr: The measurements are vague, you can adjust it depending on your tastes NnyeAr: You need a big pot to cook it in, like a stewpot NnyeAr: cut up a small yellow onion or half a big one and saute it in the pot NnyeAr: then take about a pound of stew beef (it should be cubed, it usually comes cubed) and dredge the pieces lightly in flour, then put them in the pot and brown them a little NnyeAr: then put in enough beef broth (or beef bullion and water) to cover the beef and onion and let it simmer for a while NnyeAr: don't boil it, just simmer NnyeAr: put in about a teaspoon of tomato paste... NOT sauce, the paste that comes in teeny cans NnyeAr: and a few dashes of worchestershire sauce NnyeAr: and however much paprika and salt and pepper you like NnyeAr: and after it's simmered for maybe half an hour NnyeAr: put in sliced mushrooms (a little if you only want a little, a lot if you love mushrooms), 8 oz of sour cream, and 8 oz of heavy cream NnyeAr: let that simmer over a low heat, stir it, taste it and see if it needs more worchestershire sauce, salt, pepper, or paprika NnyeAr: while it is simmering, make your egg noodles NnyeAr: and when you can't stand just smelling it anymore, serve it over the egg noodles. NnyeAr: My mom always used to serve it with peas. NnyeAr: It's basically a thick creamy stew NnyeAr: Oh, and have crusty bread for sopping-up NnyeAr: and it reheats very well. It's very easy to make, and a pretty forgiving recipe. It's also a good dish to make with friends, when you can delegate little things like chopping, and talk during the long simmering and maybe crack a bottle of wine or something. |

And if it doesn't come tomorrow I will send them a pissed off email; I've been calling the post office repeatedly and talked to the mailman as well. |

Patricia from HAND. She was in for two hours today, and my kitchen is ZOMG clean (she even cleaned the Foreman grill!), the bathroom is lovely, my clothes are folded, it's awesome. Also, I got some sort of dontated-stuff gift basket! The contents were oddly random... socks, a toothbrush, small bottles of toiletry, canned lasagna, notepads... but certainly welcome. So that's my happy of the day. |
