Name: Bernadine Lorraine Ford (AB, B, Berny, Dina (though only her mother could call her that))
Residence/Hometown: Lake Luzerne, NY
Age/Birthday: 19. February 21, 1993. It's kind of an inside joke among the family that she and her sister were born on President's day; instead of celebrating their birthday on the actual date they celebrate it on the third Monday in February.
Gender/Sexuality: She's female. She hasn't sorted out the sex thing yet.
PB: Allison Scagliotti
Any notable differences from the pb? 5'6", thin frame. Her hair used to be longer than Abernathy's but she cut it and dyed the streak to complete the illusion. She's borrowing some of her sister's wardrobe, but she's adding some of her own pieces. If anyone says anything about the disparity (and sudden appearance of skirts) she's going to tell them that she developed a sense of style and to shove it.
School/Magic Stuff
Wand: Abernathy was going to let her use her wand, but Bernadine asked her cousin Pepper to make her a wand that's nearly identical with a different core (which is 9 inches. Flexible. Chestnut. Dual core of Augurey Tail Feather and Mallowsweet). She's not entirely sure that the wand works, but she hasn't tried to use it yet.
House and Year: University House. 1st semester.
Schedule: She is studying Divination with Mother Criss.

Extracurricular activities: She's going to keep Abby's muggle sports and develop a sudden interest in cooking club.
Boggart and Riddikulus: Being that she's not all that magical Bernadine doesn't have a boggart response or riddikulus.
Amortentia smells like: She doesn't know.

Family/Relationships
Immediate Family Parents Billy and Violet (formerly Kidd). Violet died when B was seven. An older brother Timothy and an identical twin sister Abernathy. Bill took to calling the girls AB (even though he can tell them apart). The nickname stuck and people who can't tell the difference between them seem to like that they have a legitimate way to talk to them without knowing exactly which twin it is. Timothy is not magical in any way whatsoever. Abernathy is a witch and studied at Dresden. Family Tree.

Any other relations we should know about: She's very good friends with Adelaide Legaux, which sometimes bothers Abby.
Personality
Likes: Board games. Books. Living in the woods. Camping.
Dislikes: When people point out that she's weird.
Quirks: - She's mostly squib but has the gift of divination.

Secrets: She's pretending to be Abernathy while she's at school. Adelaide, Mother Criss, Billy Ford, Pepper Stark, and Abernathy are the only ones who know.
Strengths: Good at lying. Book smart.
Weaknesses: A little too quiet. Not very outgoing.
Detailed personality:
Bernadine was always the quieter sister. Observant. Patient to a fault. She's very astute, but it sometimes comes out at the wrong times.
She's a bit of an odd duck all things considered. She's largely been a loner, not so much by choice but by necessity. She's hoping that learning control of her abilities will remedy that.
She's rather clever and smart enough to pull off her mad stunt at switching places. Those in her inner circle know her to be shifty. She's got an excellent poker face and is a gifted liar. Had she been more magical I imagine she'd have been sorted into Clemons.
Personal History:
Bernadine grew up in the woods of Lake Luzerne along with her brother Tim, twin sister Abernathy, mom and dad. She spent a lot of time outdoors, but she never took as much to the wilderness as her siblings.
When she was seven her mother died suddenly. From this point forward Bernadine slowly started to take over her mother's place in the house. She matured quicker than her sister and brother. Her father tried very hard not to rely on Bernadine to keep the house tidy or cook the meals (which was largely a shared responsibility before), but gradually Bernadine took over her mother's half of the household chores.
At the age of nine she and her sister spent a summer with her Aunt Veruca who lived an entirely different and radical lifestyle. The trip was arranged so that the girls could become familiar with their magical relations. Bernadine remained rather ambivalent to the idea of being a witch, considering many of her relations ended up being squibs.
Just in case, all three Ford children were sent to muggle school from kindergarten on. When she didn't receive her wizarding school invitation she wasn't torn up about it. Abernathy took it much harder and Bernadine ended up consoling her. Abby decided to go to school at Blue Ridge and while it was difficult being away from her sister, Bernadine adjusted.
Except that she started to sense peculiar things around her. Being mostly unmagical she didn't know that she was having divinatory visions. She would sometimes blurt out the strange things she saw, much to the distress of those around her who understood these visions even less than she did. Bill worried that his daughter might actually be schizophrenic and brought her to several muggle doctors (who did diagnose her with schizophrenia and prescribed several modes of therapy) before thinking that the problem might be magical.
When he realized what was actually happening Bill revealed to Bernadine that he was a wizard and had given up his wand. He didn't explain his choice fully, but Bernadine could sense the answer without much digging. His choice to leave wizarding behind was largely due to his wife's horrible childhood and his inability to save her life. Keeping this a secret from Tim and Abernathy has been a challenge for Bernadine.
Bill had a touch of divination as well and began to tutor Bernadine in addition to her muggle schooling. He brought her as far as he could, but he knew even that wasn't enough to properly help Bernadine with her visions. They debated for a long time about a solution, but Bernadine insisted that an opportunity would come along eventually.
Her sister decided during her final year of magical schooling that she wanted to try muggle schooling. Abby hatched a plan to allow Bernadine to study divination at Dresden by switching places. This would allow Bernadine a chance to study with someone who knew the gift inside and out and could teach her all the things her father missed. The downside was that she'd have to pull off the ruse of being Abernathy.
Given that she has only the summer to pick up on Abernathy's mannerisms and learn everything she can about her friends and enemies at school: she has her work cut out for her.
Other Stuff: I haven't decided yet if I want someone to discover her before she's learned all she can from Mother Criss.
She has room to make friends Abby wouldn't have otherwise made.
