+ Augusta [Leigh] Avery.
+ Sixth year Gryffindor
+ Born 27 July 1926.
+ Full blooded.
family + Patriarch and loving grandfather Norbert Avery, grandmother recently deceased. Father, Octavius Avery, b. 1903 (brother of Nigel Avery), mother Ginnifer Avery b. 1905 (Rookwood), sister Fausta (2nd year Ravenclaw), brother Gregory, eight years old. First cousins Anna, Nolan and Orestes Avery. Probably a lot of other pureblooded family.
history + Born in 1926 to a rather well-off family, Augusta Avery was the eldest of her siblings, and for nearly three years was pampered and spoiled perhaps more than she should have been, not by her parents (Who were barely ever around and tended to hire Governesses), but by her relations and especially her grandfather, who was actually a lot nicer and jollier than most people remember him to be. At least, Augusta remembers him to be so.
Though, it wasn't all that way. Almost all of the time right after her siblings came along, Augusta was raised, taught, and mothered by one rather strict governess who managed to stay a part of the family for generations. It was there that Augusta learned what it was to be proper in a pureblooded world, which meant no spoiling, no babying, no tantrums, and especially no inappropriate behaviour. Her mannerisms and etiquette are near perfect (At least, when her elders are watching) from many hours spent getting yelled at and thwaked over her knuckles with a spoon for slurping her soup.
While she was very close to her siblings, the way the three of them were raised, (along with their cousins as well), drove Augusta to become just a bit quieter around them, just a bit more proper, just a smidgen more of what a lady would act like, up until she went to Hogwarts for the first time and timidly sat upon a stool while a hat decided the next seven years of her life. From then, she had never acted out of place, had never smiled when she was not supposed to or allowed to, and had especially developing a distaste for people who did not act the same way.
Why did she have to be so proper and no one else did? It made Augusta become possibly even more strict, and from then on she stopped outwardly sympathizing with the people around her.
Once sorted into Gryffindor, Augusta wasn't quick to make friends. She was quiet, reserved, and especially not tolerant of the loud, classless people around her. It was evident that she was raised differently from them. Augusta, she didn't like how people could go around and act so obnoxiously, or could be so irresponsible. It just wasn't appropriate. Soon enough, Augusta found a friendship in a housemate that shared her ideas: Minerva McGonagall.
Now in her sixth year, Augusta felt incredibly shamed that she didn't pass her Charms OWL and isn't allowed to take the NEWT course. However, she casts it off as something that's just not worthy of her time. Charms? Who needs it? Weak branch of magic, anyway.
personality + While Augusta comes off as very strict, once you get to know her, she really isn't all that bad. To her, tight-lips and combed back hair is just the normal look. It can be difficult to get past this exterior, especially since Augusta doesn't always make it so easy, but once it happens, she's as nice as anyone else, and can even be fun.
She's a conservative girl, in a manner of speaking. Augusta doesn't like wearing short skirts that show off too much of her leg. She doesn't like very revealing clothing, preferring to wrap her cloak a bit tighter around her frame when she sees girls her own age looking a bit too skimpy. It's not that Augusta is ugly, it's just that.. She doesn't see the need to show off her skin. Indecent girls are guaranteed to go nowhere in life. And it's always so cold, anyway.
Though it seems like Augusta is so tightly wrapped to the point where she's no fun at all, in reality, she does like a lot of things. The sound of a violin. Cooking, especially when it comes out just right. Other rather girlish things, though she chooses not to emphasize them because she doesn't want people to think of her as someone who's completely focused on getting a homelife and nothing else. As much as Augusta may want children someday, she wants to have a life first.
She's always been interested in the ministry of magic, especially in Law Enforcement, though one wouldn't be able to tell just by looking at her. Augusta is proud of her sense of right and wrong, she believes she has very strong morals (even if they border on too strict most of the time) and always tries to do what's right in a situation. Someday, Augusta hopes to work in the Magical Law Enforcement branch in the Ministry of Magic. Even if it's just a secretarial job, she would be happy with knowing she was good enough to get in.
Sometimes, Augusta wishes that she could be as carefree about things as the people around her. Truthfully, she takes everything to heart, but it's only rarely that she shows terrific amounts of emotion. From all her years brought up to be a proper woman, and the fact that she particularly dislikes immaturity, it's hard for Augusta to connect with her peers. She comes off as cold and uncaring, but in fact she cares almost too much and simply refuses to talk about it or even acknowledge it.
At home, Augusta has a garden. It's a small patch in the yard behind the house, but she loves it all the same. The grass around it is so green, she keeps it well fertilized, and her flowers and plants are always near perfect. When she's at school, Augusta misses her garden and is glad she's never around to see it have to die for the winter. She's especially good at Herbology, it just comes naturally.
appearance + Augusta is a relatively small girl, about five-foot-three, with an average size waist and average brown hair that tends to be naturally straight and average hazel eyes that tend to look more towards the floor than anything. At least, this is how she considers herself. Not raised to pay attention to her own looks, Augusta never really got into the habit of putting on a lot of makeup, or styling her hair in a special way. She would be the first to admit that she is not beautiful, she has a long face, a big nose, and a sloping jaw, but she always dresses her best.
However, if there's anything that Augusta likes, it's the color green. She wears green barrettes in her hair, she stitches embroidery in green, and she transfigures the heels and soles of her mary janes green. It reminds her of her garden at home, the green of the grass and the stems and home.
views ; politics and Grindelwald + While she does have opinions, Augusta would never, ever mention them. Women, as she learned, should not speak about things like politics as they can lead to arguments and should always be avoided at the dinner table. Unlike a lot of her family, Augusta doesn't like the idea of Grindelwald, and does not approve of what he is doing. What's the point of causing terror? Why make people fight? It only hurts everyone else. Augusta doesn't know anyone fighting in the war, and she's never personally experienced it because her family lives up north, though she has heard secondhand how terrible it can be. She feels sorry for people who need to justify their own insecurities by declaring war.
views ; blood purity and status + Truthfully, Augusta does not care about blood purity. She does obey her mother when her mother says to stay away from boys who are not pureblooded, but that's only because she doesn't really wish to get into trouble with her family. She's loyal to them, and if they are uptight about that, then so be it. Though, truthfully, Augusta will talk to anyone if they're nice enough. And, as it turns out, most pureblooded people are not nice at all. At least, that's what she knows from being in a pureblooded family. The Averys get invited to all sorts of parties, and she continually sees the same people over and over again. She thinks it's boring, but chews the inside of her lip and looks indifferent just to prevent herself from complaining.
