.: Baby :. "He likes you."

Mackenzie said with a smile, sitting on the plush armchair in her living room, just a few hours since she was released from Mungo's after giving birth to her first son. Beside her, one of her best friends sat holding Anthony Goldstein. It was an odd sight, seeing Evan Rosier with a baby in his arms. It wasn't the first time he had held an infant, but there also weren't many people he cared enough about to have any interest in holding their child. The baby in his arms may have had his father's blood coursing through his veins, but he cared about his mother too much for him to harbor any resentment towards the newborn. Besides, all he could see was Mackenzie as he looked down at him.

"He's beautiful, Mack."

Evan was always relatively soft spoken, only raising his voice when he wanted to make a point, but his voice was close to a whisper as he adjusted the tiny boy in his arm. Sebastian was off getting something or another for his wife and first born son, which made the environment much less tense than it might have been if the wizard had been in the same room. Children had a way of sensing when things weren't quite right, so the only time Evan would have been able to meet the child would have been when his mudblood father wasn't home.

He had always tried to be civil with Sebastian, for Mackenzie's sake, though sometimes he just couldn't bite his tongue. He would have to make much more of an effort now that there was a baby involved. Evan smirked down at Anthony as he squirmed and made some gurgling noises, blinking his eyes as he took in the face of the man who was holding him. He would see pale blonde hair that was starting to fall into those mismatched eyes of his - one blue, one grey, both incredibly sharp. His eyes lifted from the baby to look over at Mack.

"I'm happy for you."

Mack blinked at the admission, and once again found herself smiling at the two boys before she lifted herself up from the chair in order to take a seat beside Evan on the couch, her hand along the back of the baby's head.

"I'm glad you came to see him." Mack commented, offhandedly, though Evan's eyes turned from the baby to look at his mother, "Why wouldn't I have come?" He questioned with a raised brow. Mackenzie faltered for a moment before she shrugged her shoulders, now playing with the blanket that was wrapped around the swaddled infant. She was avoiding eye contact.

"I just know how busy you can be..,and I know how much you dislike being here." She finally explained, turning to give him his attention now. Even looked at her for a long while before he let out a sigh. "Mack...your house could be filled with every relative Sebastian has, but if you told me you wanted me here, you know I would be. I'd even try to judge them all silently, because these are the kind of things i do for you."

"Because you love me, right?" She said with a smile, and Evan watched her face for a moment before answering,

"Like family."

return to top .: Friend :. "I'm bored."

Caradoc Dearborn flopped unceremoniously onto his bed as he made his announcement. He had been aiming it at the only other person in the room, who just so happened to be his best friend, and he looked very involved in the book he was reading. Evan let out a sigh, knowing that if the other boy went ignored for too long, he would just become more obnoxious in his need for attention and entertainment.

"Than go read something. Expand your mind, Caradoc. Just be careful not to strain yourself on any big words."

His tone was dry, as per usual, and he hadn't even looked up from what he was doing, actually going so far as to flip to the next page in a futile attempt to get through to him that he was in the middle of something. Evan had never been the type to go out of his way to please other people, at least when he got nothing out of it. The whole reason he had come up from the common room was to get away from all the noise everyone was making down there.

"I don't want to read. What's the fun in that? We spend the whole bloody day reading."

"Hm. I'm fairly certain the rest of us spend our time reading, whereas you, friend, depend on the texts with pictures." With that, Evan lifted his eyes from the book to turn his attention towards his friend, a smirk slowly forming across his lips. "Honestly, I feel as though you deserve a pat on the back whenever you can spell your own name correctly."

He knew the other boy wasn't unintelligent, but he did so many stupid things that he sometimes had to wonder. He tried looking back to his book, but saw movement out of the corner of his eye. Before he knew what had happened, his book was out of his hand and being tossed across the 6th year boys dorm room. Evan's eyes focused on the text that had just flown out of his hands before they suddenly honed in on his friend. Most people would have started stammering and apologizing if they had Evan Rosier looking at him like that, but not Caradoc Dearborn. Instead, the pain in the ass just grinned down at him.

“Looks like you’re out of reading material friend.”

“Your skills of observation are astounding.”

“I’d also like to observe that you’re acting like a total wanker.”

“I hadn’t been informed it was my duty to keep you entertained. How awful of me.” Evan’s words were dripping with sarcasm, not even remotely apologetic. Caradoc was one of the few people who could annoy the shit out of him and still amuse him at the same time. He was quick tongued, and he appreciated that in a person. There weren’t many who could keep up with him in conversation..

“Good thing you have me here to pass on this pertinent information.” Caradoc said with another grin, knowing that he was about to get his way. Evan heaved a heavy sigh and swung his legs over the side of the bed, rising to his feet, tilting his head from one side to the other in order to relieve some of the tension in his neck.

“Oh, yes. Whatever would I do without you, Dearborn?”

“Probably read.”
return to top .: Paternal :.
"What do you mean you're moving out?"

Kalista stared up at her older brother who was currently standing in front of her bedroom door, blocking her only exit. Evan was 18 going on 19, fresh out of Hogwarts and ready to move out of his family home once and for all. Nothing had been the same, since their mother had died - time spent under that roof was unbearable, seeing how he and his father had a relationship that was tense, at best. The only thing that kept him grounded was knowing that he needed to watch over Kalista. There was a four year age difference between the Rosier children, which meant that his younger sister was going to be entering her fifth year at school in just a few months. They hadn't even unloaded their trunks from the previous school year when Evan had knocked on Kalista's door, telling her that he wanted to speak with her. He had come to tell her he was leaving. She was not taking it well.

"You're just going to leave? Just like that?"

"I can't stay here, Kal."

"Why? Is this place that unbearable for you? You're just going to run away?"

She defensively crossed her arms over her chest, taking him wanting to leave personally. Evan knew she wouldn't understand; he had predicted this would be difficult the second he decided to knock on her door and deliver the news.

"It's too late to change my mind, even if i wanted to. I've been looking for a place to live for a few months now." He paused, and the continued. "I'm gone by the end of the week."

Kal blinked as he dropped the news, staring up at her brother in disbelief. She didn't say anything for a few moments, but eventually she did speak.

"...the end of the week?" She now sounded more upset than she did angry, and Evan let out a breath, dropping his line of vision down to the ground as one of his hands lifted to rub at the back of his neck. He let her process everything for a moment before he stepped forward towards her, reaching his hand out in order for her to place hers into it.

"Sit with me."

She was hesitant at first, but eventually she took his hand and allowed him to lead her over to her bed, having her take a seat on the edge, him sitting beside her. He continued holding onto her hand, remembering how she used to always reach for his hand when they were children

"I know you want me to stay...but I need to get out of here, Kal. Deep down, I think you know that. I also think you know this has absolutely nothing to do with you." He needed it to be said, though her sudden lack of eye contact let him know he was right in his assumption. "I wanted to tell you because I wanted to give you a choice. The flat I'll be staying in...it has an extra bedroom." Kalista looked up at him, wondering if this conversation was going where she thought it was going.

"I wanted to give you the option to come with me. This place...it hasn't been the same, since mum died." The mention of their mothers death was never easy for either of them. Evan may have been the eldest, but Kal had spent a lot more time with Aimee during her final years than her son had. Caleb had taken to dragging their first born from one country to the next under the guise of 'giving him world experiences'. In reality, it was just much easier to have mistresses overseas. Kalista was completely oblivious to their father's infidelities, but Evan had been witness to them more times than he could count. He never dared to try and tarnish the relationship Kal had with their father, but it was also difficult for him to let her be so naive. He knew that she resented him for her own reasons though; she was always upset that she was never taken on any of his overseas adventures. The man barely spent much time with his daughter, but tried making up for it by buying her things. Evan had always been the most present male figure in her life - if she had to be honest, he had been more of a paternal figure for her than Caleb had ever been - and that was why she had been so upset to hear he was leaving. That meant during the few months she wouldn't be at school, there was a chance the only other inhabitant of the house would be their house elf.

This was what was going through her mind as she mulled over the option. She thought of how empty that big house would be without Evan there to keep her company.

"I-...I don't think Dad would like that very much."

"I think our father would barely even notice you're gone. He's hardly here as it is."

Kalista didn't like that he had a point. She frowned a bit and then let out a sigh, tucking some of her hair behind her ear.

"Maybe I could stay just for the summer... You'll come back home sometimes though, right?"

Evan nodded, though again the only reason he had for coming back to that house was to see his sister. He knew he wasn't going to be able to escape his father, no matter how hard he tried, but he definitely needed time away from the man. They would see each other regardless of whether he ever revisited that house, seeing how they were both part of something much bigger - Evan and Caleb had a terrible relationship as father and son, but they both answered to the Dark Lord. It was probably the one thing both of them agreed on.

"Let me know what you decide to do." With that, he gave her hand a gentle squeeze before rising to his feet and exiting her room. He'd let her think about it for a while longer, seeing how Kalista really didn't have the same reasons for wanting to get out of that house as her brother did. He couldn't force her into everything, but he also didn't know what things would be like after he moved out. Without their mother around, Kalista didn't have anyone to actually be a parent to her. Evan was usually the one who stopped her at the door to make her go and change her clothes so she didn't walk out of the house looking like a street walker when she wanted to go and hang out with her friends; he was the one who made sure she kept to the curfew their mother had set in place for her, and made sure she didn't go out when she had broken it. She hated it, and more often than not they argued over it, but he knew she'd recognize he was doing it for her own good later on in life.

He hoped she would, at least.

So, I changed the 'Happy' prompt to 'Baby' since I can't imagine having another drabble of him being with an infant, but I am going to work on another for Mack and Evan with the ones you gave me. ^^
