.: Wary :. "You just need to take them."

Her aunt was scolding her as she shook an orange bottle in front of her face, causing the young witch to narrow her eyes. This whole situation was rubbish - her aunt and uncle had spent a great deal of time just trying to get their niece into the car, having scheduled to have her sit down with a doctor so she could 'talk about her feelings'. The whole thing was that they made it abundantly clear that she wasn't to mention that she was a witch, or that her parents were murdered by dark magics, and that her younger brother hadn't been turned catatonic after being put under an unforgivable curse. In other words, they wanted her to lie to this muggle doctor so that he could diagnose her with something and fix her, because her family was sick of trying.

They didn't understand. How could they, really? None of them were magically inclined, and they had all treated her like some sort of freak even before everything had happened. Most of them were scared of her, as far as she could tell, which made living under the same roof with them intolerable. She already felt guilty enough for being the whole reason the death eaters had shown up on their door in the first place, and she had a scar of her own to prove that they were about to kill her too, when the aurors showed up.

She was 15 years old, and it hadn't even been an entire year since she had watched her family suffer, all because of what she was. It was a lot to handle, especially when you were just a teenager.

"I don't want them."

Her aunt scoffed. "Well we don't always get what we want, Billie."

The girl paused, and eyed the bottle warily. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.

"...what are they going to do?"

"They're going to make you happy. Don't you want to be happy?"

Her aunt's pencil thin eyebrows shot up into her forehead, and before Billie had a chance to answer, the bottle was shoved into her hand.

"Now you need to take 2 pills, twice a day - once in the morning, and again after supper. And don't choke, you aren't insured and those pills cost us a fortune."

The door was shut behind her aunt, and Billie stared down at the medication she was supposed to be taking. The doctor had said she was 'depressed', though she couldn't imagine how a few, little blue pills were going to do anything. She poured a few into her hand, watched them roll around for a bit before she popped them into her mouth, washing them down with some water. They left a fowl taste on her tongue, and she sighed as she placed the bottle next to her bed.

"....they're going to make me happy." She repeated, though they didn't sound convincing at all. return to top .: Prompt :. (drabble) return to top
