Bert stared at her, absolutely bewildered, but when he saw the tears in her eyes. Well. He couldn't even look at her. He looked at the floor, almost like a kid waiting to be punished. In fact, that's exactly what Bert was right now. He felt like such a bad kid with this illness. He wanted to be able to take care of himself, but he was trapped in this ridiculous situation.
He looked back up at her, trying to lighten the mood. "What do you mean? It's only stylizing, Alma, no big deal. I thought you liked that sort of thing -- I mean, you are a woman."
