25 Flavors of Ashlyn Cooper
Yule Ball

Ashlyn was extremely nervous. She was never one for big parties, for dancing...dressing up simply so she could sit in a stuffy, hot room. But Sieffre had asked her, and who was she to say no to that? She secretly loved being all girly and feminine, dressing up and...well, essentially showing off for him. She never voiced it to anyone, not even Phoebe, but she was secretly excited about tonight. As she looked at her reflection, she pouted; her hair looked decent, but it seemed like something was missing. "You need lipstick, dear," the mirror yawned out dully. Ashlyn smiled; the vocal mirrors were one of the best parts about Hogwarts...except for on bad hair days. That was when they were the worst. She grabbed a nice, dark pink (but not obvious) color and quickly slipped it on. "Okay...ready, I think," she said before turning around to go down the stairs.

In the common room she was bombarded by friends squealing and being overly shocked at her very girlish appearance. Apparently there had been a betting pool going around and everyone assumed that Ashlyn would be at the very least wearing a tux and at most protesting the entire event due to its "demeaning of a woman's power" or something like that. To be honest, she probably would have done just that had Sieffre not asked her. And everything was going so well for them, she figured...why not. It was worth it, at least, being able to spend time with him.

When she exited the common room, she found Sieffre waiting for her on the other side...and he was just as shocked as her housemates to see her. She felt butterflies bubble up in her stomach at the sight of him, her face breaking into a large grin. They'd been through so much together; this time last year she was pouting over some other bloke and now...now she had Yan and they were together. And that was all that mattered to Ashlyn when it came down to it. She grinned excitedly at him before throwing her arms around him. "Yan! Don't be all surprised about me being dressed up," she said teasingly, looking at him momentarily before leaning in to kiss him. A wonderful, amazing, glorious kiss she thought. "C'mon, lets show all those other birds and blokes who's really got the dance moves," she said quickly, grabbing his hand to pull him down the corridor towards the Great Hall.

Wedding

Ashlyn stared nervously at her reflection--everything was so planned, so perfect. And she should have been happy, this was supposed to be the happiest day in a woman's life. But it felt so quick and--Merlin, she could remember the look in her mother's eyes when she'd told her. The plans for an October wedding were already in the works, her mother was so elated about her youngest daughter getting married, but her mother certainly hadn't wanted it this way. No one found pride in a daughter who happened to be with child out of wedlock. The plans were moved up by three months, the number in attendance cut down dramatically. Rather than the big public wedding that Bernice Cooper had been hoping for, Ashlyn found herself waiting upstairs in Siån's bedroom while only the family and closest friends of her and Sieffre waited. It wasn't that Ashlyn had hoped for a big wedding--secretly, she was glad that the plans had changed this into such a low key affair.

"You look great, Ashlyn," she heard Phoebe tell her, her reflection smiling encouragingly at her.

"Thank you," she murmured softly, her eyes stuck on the protruding bump of her stomach. She was seven months pregnant now; it had been obvious since just after Easter holidays what had happened. She probably deserved all the gossip and the nasty remarks from her classmates and peers, and she knew it. But--well, she had Sieffre to make things better and at the end of the day, that's what got her through it all.

There was a soft knock on the door and she turned to catch Siån, breathless from running up the stairs. "Everything's ready to start as soon as you are, Ash," she said excitedly, brushing her curled hair behind her ear. Ashlyn looked from Phoebe to Siån to Julie, her sister, before nodding.

"Here goes nothing," she said softly as she gathered the tulle and ivory cloth of her skirt, making her way out of the room and down to the backyard at the Robins household. It was only appropriate, after all, that the next 'start' of their lives took place where the previous start began. Under the shade of their tree, Sieffre stood waiting for her; waiting for the vows to care for each other in sickness and in health, to be together until death did they part. And though there were butterflies (and baby kicks) in her stomach, Ashlyn was ready too.
