Appearance
Bellatrix Black stands at a small 5’4, with a slight frame and pale skin. Her complexion is pale with a hint of colour in her cheeks that becomes more pronounced the happier she is, that is to say, the more mischief she is causing. She has large doe eyes, heavy lidded which give an impression of always looking seductive. Her eyes are deep brown, as is her long hair, which she proudly wears loose most days. The rest of her facial features are delicate, her slightly upturned nose gives her a hint of haughtiness. Even as young as she is, there is still something to be feared when Bellatrix smiles. It is wide and dangerous and wolfish, giving away a little at the madness that lies beneath.

Personality
To an outsider, Bellatrix would seem like a happy girl. She’s usually smiling, flitting around boys and whispering in the back of class, the normal thing for teenage girls to do (even for a witch). However it would not take long in her company to recognise that she is a girl with a deep instability. There is the need to always steal, curse or hurt that dogs Bella on a daily basis, the madness of years of pure blood hysteria drilled into her crashing beneath the surface. Her temper is almost as widely renowned as her penchant for “doing it” with any boys that show an interest (after a shameless interrogation of their blood status, of course). She has a child-like quality, an inability to understand the consequences of her actions and an immeasurable need to be loved, petted, paid some attention. Though her actions seem flighty and rash, she is a bright girl. She is an exceptional duellist, although she was banned from duelling lessons after going a little too far with a Ravenclaw in her fifth year. She is hungry for knowledge, but not for the simple pleasure of learning, but to prepare. Bellatrix has heard of a magnificent wizard, the Dark Lord, a man her father raves about in his letters. Without even meeting this fabled man, Bellatrix has an obsession that consumes her, which is why she learns as much as she can, so she can dedicate her life to such a wonderful man. Bella is almost certain he is the one she is destined to marry.

History
The eldest of three sisters, Bellatrix was born into the noble house of Black (to parents who made no effort to conceal their disappointment at not having a son). Her early childhood was spent holed up in the Black mansion, away from Muggles and others deemed distasteful to her parents. It was there that the virtues of staying pure blood were instilled and a strong bond with her sisters was formed. An unruly child, Bella was often in trouble for causing havoc around the Black house, usually with the help of her cousin Sirius. It seemed she loved nothing better than the sound of things crashing and breaking.

One summer when she was thirteen, the chaos became too much for Druella Black and she sent her daughter to stay with another Black relative for the holidays, a formidable man who took a shine to Bellatrix, teaching her magic beyond the level taught at school and honing her skills as a duellist. Relishing the positive attention, Bella developed an infatuation with this “uncle”, making advances on the much older man and leading to an unhealthy relationship between them which culminated in the uncle taking advantage of Bella and consumed with fear of being found out, sent Bella back to her family never to acknowledge her again.

The encounter left Bellatrix humiliated and rather crazy. For however precocious she had been, ultimately she was still abused. The penchant for trouble making evolved into something more sinister, with the bullying of younger children and the pleasure gained from pain. Being the oldest out of all the Black’s at Hogwarts was not an easy task, and Sirius’s rebellion often led to her being punished, though she still loved him, meeting him secretly just to talk and plead for him to come back to the family.
