Clifford the Big Red Dog was possibly his most favorite book of all time.  That is why he often ran around the neighborhood as a scarlet furred bloodhound.  In fact, that is why he was running around as a scarlet furred bloodhound today.  He was officially "too old" to read the book, but he read it everyday before going out for a run as his favorite dog.  Of course, he wasn't twenty-five feet tall.  He was at a healthy twenty three inches tall as he ran through freshly cut grass, occasionally barking at the neighborhood cats.  Not like they were scared or anything, though.  Cliff did the same routine everyday.  All the cats were used to it by now.

But, not all of the dogs were.  There were a few rambunctious little bastards that wanted a piece of Cliff every time he ran by.  He usually just sat outside of their fences or electric fences and taunted them.  Yeah, he was acting like kind of a douche to them.  But why shouldn't he?  They were always trying to chase him, and always saying they were gonna be his alpha.  And you know what?  Cliff knew exactly what that meant, and he wasn't ever going to let that happen.  Except, he didn't realize that some of those dogs were getting smarter.

Regular fences were not so effective anymore.  As Cliff ran farther down the neighborhood, he encountered a wall of five dogs.  They ranged from a black lab, to a golden retriever, to a basset hound, to a yorkshire terrier, to another bloodhound.  "Crap," Cliff whined.  The opposing dogs snarled and growled, and then rushed at him.  Cliff turned tail and ran away.  The other dogs were gaining on him fast, but he had a pretty healthy vitality and level of stamina.  After about a block, he assumed he lost them.  His butt stuck up high, and he strut his stuff in the direction of his house.

That was, of course, until the bloodhound, the black lab, and the golden retriever caught up.  Cliff was shocked, but this time he was more ready than ever.  Instead of running as a dog, he jumped up and flew away as a bird.

"Smarter than the average bird!"
