She didn't bother trying to smile. There was no need to reassure anyone right now. At least she wasn't getting emotional to the point of tears because she didn't like getting that bad.
"I'm sorry I ran." She is sorry because she missed Thomas more than she missed anything else about Gotham. Even if they don't get her mentor freed from the Mob it will still be worth coming back here. It's obvious there is more for her to say but she's holding back right now.
