"But that's not in public," he has to point out. He'd thought about stopping this thing between them before, but could never bring himself to do it. With her he never felt as lonely or out of place or like an...outsider as he did usually. An outsider within your own family was a terrible feeling, but with her it was like that wasn't even in his life anymore. And screw it, he'd take what bit of happiness he could get his hands on.
He dedicated his life to being selfless and saving this city. Shouldn't he be allowed some measure of selfishness?
