Interview Time
Jack Ryder was a man who would notice when something was off. Its part of what made him such a damn good reporter: that excruciating attention to the details that others would miss and lead to a lost source or story. So when he was assigned this, he was looking at strange detail after strange detail that made him almost smile at the assignment. It was about some foreign investor named Bob Gadling who invested a huge chunk of change into the Gotham Gazette...but with no attempt at buyout (which was all the rage for Jacks paper-based associates) or an attempt to restructure the business. It seemed less like an investment and more like a donation.

But the question was why? The Gazette also had some investments in local publishing companies (a deal that was supposed to help save the paper a few years prior, but it didn't really catch water), so was it Gadling, some publishing magnate from Britain, trying to lube up the works for a buying of those publishing houses? All evidence pointed to this Mr. Gadling being in town, supposedly to visit an ex by the name of Gwen Zulli, but Ryder had a hunch this was more than a personal visit. So, time to suit up, Ryder. It's time to show why you earn the big bucks.

So now Jack Ryder waits. According to his sources (and reliable ones at that), this Gadling character likes to visit this shop. Here's hoping Bob Gadling is a man of habit...

Gwen had needed a little time to think about it, she'd said. Really, they'd said all they could. He wished he could have told her more, the truth, but that rule had served him well through the centuries.

Why did he have to fall for such smart women most of the time?

He walks near automatically to that one place near Gwen's that knows how to make a decent cup. He doesn't look at anyone as he heads in and gets it.

The guy walking in matches the description that was given to Bob Galding. Lets hope this works.

Jack gets up from his spot, holding his cup as if he were up to ask for another, moving up to be just behind the supposed Bob. With a few scripted glances, Jack speaks.

"Excuse me. You wouldn't happen to be Bob Gelding would you?"

"It's pronounced 'Gadling', actually." Who is this bloke?

"I'm sorry, I'm terrible with names. I'm Jack Ryder. Someone who used to work at the Gazette."

This wasn't a lie. Jack did work at the Gazette when he got started. he just moved to Gotham News afterwards.

"I really appreciate what you did. The Gazette has been under some really rough times."

"Nice to meet you." Handshake. "Well, they've got some quality people there," Hob says honestly. He hasn't made a crooked business deal in more than two hundred years. ...Anything done to forge identity papers didn't count. "It's a change-or-die business right now, but I think a little life support is all they need to get themselves adjusted." Hob hopes that'll be all there. He hadn't expected it to get attention.

"Yes, I'm sure they're glad for the extra help your investment has brought them. And you've got some attention because of it."

Okay, Ryder. Pitch Time.

"I still work for the media, although I am more in the television circles now. It's not everyday we have as genial a man as you invest in one of our local companies, and I was hoping you'd be interested in doing an interview."

"Ehh..." he said sheepishly. "I'm really not very telegenic, mate. And I've got a bit going on during my stay."

Hob was never one to deride modern conveniences, but the communications age sometimes made having a dramatic secret a bit more difficult.
Maybe it was time for Bob to meet with an Accident. He had the paperwork for Robin all ready to go.

But he had a chance of working things out with Gwen. And he loved Gwen. He couldn't pull the switch while they still had a chance at time together.

"It's not a problem. Anonymity is rare these days. This won't be on camera, just a one on one that will go on the website," Ryder said, relieved that this one wasn't an attention lover the way Bruce Wayne was.

"Ah. Web site. Not so bad." Hob always managed pretty well with computers, and he'd tended to establish good electronic sources for his covers, for a man who'd once thought that printing presses were a good job while he could get it but would never catch on. "I suppose I could give it a go."

"Great. I really appreciate it. Now, do you have a secretary I could get a hold of. I'm sure the young lady there doesn't appreciate me holding up the line," Jack said with a grin, noting the barrista giving him a Glare of DOOM.

"Didn't mean to take up your time, Mr. Gadling, but I really appreciate it. I'll call and get something set up."

Hob hands him a card quickly with a "Here you go" and turns to the barrista. "One darjeeling, love. Sorry."
