He hadn't expected the ride to feel so short. Sleep shortened it, of course, but even when he was awake, he didn't feel like a lot of time had passed. There was so much to think about, and no small amoun to fret about. He was so wrapped up in running the possibilities of those men catching up that he could hardly believe when they arrived on the outskirts of the town.
Mal reached over and touched Cade's shoulder gently to wake him up. It had been a few hours since they'd chanced their last pit stop. "It looks deserted from here, but I think that's probably just smart, you know? I wouldn't want to advertise." His voice was shakey with nerves. He was terrified that they were walking right into another nightmare. |

Max had been walking for a real long fucking time. He didn't have a lot in the way of supplies aside from a duffel bag full of guns and ammo. The first thing he'd done in Boston was raid the weapon storage at the PD. The brute force tactic had served him pretty well in his travels. When he needed food, he took it. In the beginning, the detective badge had helped him out. People always thought he had some authority because of it. Now it was meaningless because everyone had given up the hope that any help was coming.
The outside of the camp looked fortified. Fences had been put up where he was sure no fences would have been before. He approached with caution, expecting some sort of watchmen to be lurking, keeping a lookout for danger. He couldn't see anyone though and he wasnt sure he looked like much of a threat with just one duffel. Little did they know he was packing a small arsenal. For safe keeping, he hide a few of the guns in case these people managed to get the rest away from him.
When he was ready to approach, he called out. "Anyone around? This place empty or what?" |
