But Zuko having lost a couple of hours? Brainwashing by the Dai Li, perhaps?

So is there a trigger that will set Zuko off, or was that brainwashing just so Azula could learn that the Avatar had a chance for survival? And why is a random member of the Dai Li taking such an interest in Kouji's training? I mean, obviously its convenient for the boy to get stronger for this story, but what purpose would that serve for Hyo?

This probably won't come out in the story, so I feel okay telling you.

Hyo is a pretty high-ranking Dai Li agent. I won't say how high, but he's up there. However, while he was climbing the ladder, he decided it might be best to hold off on a family until he was more secure. He married at twenty-seven and had a child at thirty, a little girl.

Unfortunately, his wife died three years later, so it's been just him and his daughter. Obviously, bringing along a little girl to the Fire Nation is out of the question, so he put his daughter with someone he trusted to care for her. However, he still has some guilt issues for essentially abandoning the child. And now here's this boy, not much older than his daughter, clearly in want of training...

So, Hyo is projecting. But that's good for Kouji.

this also probably won't come out in the story, so.

an attempt was probably made--azula wanted all her bases covered, so she could control her loose-canon brother. whether or not this was successful (and whether or not he was brainwashed the way she wanted him to be and not some other way, long feng covering his *own* bases) is another question, that likely won't be answered by this story. :D

Yep. And Hyo won't know the answers, he'll have nothing to do with the brainwashing. It skeeves him out.
