Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry

Deckard: *quietly* You're right. We failed you last time. We were completely unprepared and unequipped to deal with the Vorians. We won't promise we'll be able to defeat them this time either, but our boss is right. We're told that you have weapons and knowledge now that we didn't have. I don't know how big this fantasy has grown, the "if only the Brave Police were here", and I can't promise that we'll be able to live up to it . . . but what I can promise is this - our mission hasn't changed. The Brave Police were designed and tasked with the protection of mankind, both from threats within, from criminal elements, and from threats from beyond. To that end, we rededicate ourselves, up to and including our very lives, to all of you and to the freeing of our world from its invaders.

*The rest of the team is silent and at attention...but it's CLEAR on their faces that they all feel the same.*

Man5: *he's a big guy, tall, broad, he starts for the stage, not moving fast. People shuffle out of his way to let him approach. He looks bigger and stronger than some of the professional wrestlers the BP have seen (either from the one case of missing athletes or from those PJ and Dmps used to watch on TV) and yet there seems to be a deliberate gentleness to his movements. He reaches the stage, looks over the BP, then offers his hand to Deckard* We're glad to have you with us. We know you'll do your best for all of us, just like you always used to.

Deckard: *small, grateful smile and kneels to carefully accept that hand, pinched gently between his thumb and the knuckle of his finger*  We're honored to be allowed to serve again, sir.

Man5: We're honored that you want to. People call me Paul.

Deckard: Paul . . . pleased to meet you. My team and I are at your service.
Duke: We should start with what's been learned about the Vorians in the last fifty years, and what weapons and methods of attack are effective.

*They'll start sharing, and the builders/inventors in the group will start asking what type of weapons the BP prefer so they can build custom weapons that will work against the Vorian.*

*The Braves are free with that information, including the weapons used by their combined forms. The Build Team will also offer to form Super Build Tiger so the engineers can check out their cannon and the Tiger Beam.*
Maru: *throughout the meeting, is subtly keeping an optic also on Terris, Nicolai, and especially Zir*

Zir: *watching and listening. And will occasionally comment to the two men, one will step out and share Zir's insight.*
*The group is studied and worked with, tables and paper brought out to start designs for weapon.*

((Has anyone else noticed that Zir's even there yet? The Braves aren't going to be the ones to draw attention to him, though they /will/ defend him once his presence /is/ known.))

*The Braves are fully cooperative, offering anything they can to help.*

*Things are going smoothly until someone spots Zir and lets out a cry of alarm. The group becomes hostile and it'll take the BP stepping in to keep the Vorian alive long enough to explain.*

Maru: *is the fastest in the room – he's over to Zir and snatching him up before anyone can get near him* Hold your peace, gentlemen.
Duke: Stop, everyone! Save your wrath for those who deserve it.

((pause for reactions before they continue =3 Also, comments from Terris, Nicolai, or Mitham?))

*Mitham, Terris, and Nicolai will shift to stand between Maru and the rest of the room.*
Mitham: Just listen a moment. He's not an enemy.
Man1: He's Vorian! He's a spy!
Terris: Friends I've spoken extensively with him-I, Nicolai, Mitham, all of the Brave Police. We believe he is on our side.
Man3: But he's one of /them/!
Mitham: */snarls/* And there are humans who fight for them, doesn't it make sense there would be Vorian who would fight /for/ us?!

Duke: *only if people continue to argue after Mitham's last comment, his voice quiet but forceful enough to be heard* Egyptians invaded Mesopotamia. English, Dutch, Spanish, and many others invaded the Americas. The United States invaded the Philippines . . . human history is /full/ of the same story over and over again – one group invading another's and subjugating its people. And within the peoples of the conquerors were always individuals who recognized the errors those ways, sympathized with the conquered . . . and were executed for it. Or if they were lucky, they escaped and lived as fugitives. Their fates were one of only a few – they were captured and killed by their own people, they were captured and killed by the very people they wanted to help, they died alone and shunned by both sides . . . or they were lucky enough to find someone among their people's enemies, the ones they wanted to /help/, who would them give a chance to prove themselves. Zir's fate is in our hands . . . and we Brave Police have sworn to protect him enough to give him that chance.
Maru: Had things gone the other way, and you humans had conquered them, would you look at them all the same, just nameless, faceless dogs to do your work, or would you look at them one by one and feel even a sliver of sympathy for what your people had done to them?
Dmps: And don't try the "he's not human, he can't feel the same." We've already proven that you don't have to be human to feel the same emotions.
Deckard: *nods at his teammates, then to the others* Get to know him before you judge him, just as you would ask to be treated the same yourselves.

*The protests die to murmurs, but it's Paul who breaks the uneasy quiet with action.*
Paul: *slowly, deliberately, he leaves the crowd to approach Zir. There's no hostility in his body language, just intent, they /will/ let him through. He pauses before Zir, studying him a moment, and then offers his hand.*
Zir: *peeks at Paul, managing to look up to the man even though he stands nearly two feet taller. He looks surprised when offered a hand and accepts it.*
Paul: We could really use anything you might know if you're still willing to share with us.
Zir: *nods* Yes, of course.
*and...the tension has mostly gone, the crowd easing, some accepting this, some not sure, but willing to try.*

*Since Paul's intention seems peaceful, the Braves will let him through, Maru even crouching and holding Zir low for them to speak (though still prepared to pull him up out of reach if need be…he doesn't think that will be necessary). Nodding, Maru finally puts Zir back down completely.*
McC: I'm sure there is no one here who hasn't been deeply hurt by the invaders, by those here to willfully do harm. Let's concentrate on those who deserve our wrath. *with that, he, Duke, and Deckard will get everyone back on task*
