Occupation: Unspeakable: There are things about magic, a great many things, which have yet to be fully realized. Experimentations which test the boundaries of magical limit are taking place the world over, and in the wrong hands, could prove much more deadly than even Lord Voldemort.
Angelina has always been a problem-solver, having exelled most especially in Hogwarts in Ancient Runes and Arithmancy. Things that might seem another language to some are simply puzzle pieces to
Angelina, who has always had a natural talent for strategizing. Rather than working on a specific project in the Department of Mysteries,
Angelina is often processing information and leads which come through the Ministry in order to aide in some of their projects. More often than not, she works to identify and verify Prophecies and determine if they are legitimate before passing them on to the Unspeakables meant to actually work with them. Essentially, in this capacity she works as some priests do within the church, following up on so-called Miracles and investigating the circumstances in order to ensure and verify they are legitimate.
Angelina is sent into the field often to keep an eye on the research of other countries and more specifically, to gather intelligence surrounding those most pressing projects. At times she's asked to work in the attempts to convince a leading expert from another nation to come work for the Unspeakables in
Britain, though this is a job which occurs rarely. More often than not,
Angelina is simply stationed in her office in the Department of Mysteries, not researching, but processing information and helping put pieces together when the Unspeakables become too close to their solitary projects. Essentially, she is a resource who has a more general knowledge base surrounding some of the projects and the way in which they could potentially affect the workings of the government. If someone in the Room of Death runs into a problem in their own research, they can go to
Angelina to see if there is a way in which other Projects or the materials she's picked up in other countries might help them find away around the problem.
Because of the intelligence-gathering aspect of her job,
Angelina isn't necessarily an Unspeakable in the most specific capacity of the word, and doesn't have unlimited knowledge of the projects that go on within the Department. Instead, she's seen as a resource and often works with Aurors in an attempt to fill in the gaps of their knowledge and help aleviate the pressure of their high-stress tasks. Her large network and ability to assimilate and assess situations means she often has to get a bit gritty, and this occasionally means running into unsavoury characters. If her work can assist other Departments, she is shifted out for the day and is therefore seen as a more friendly face to the Unspeakables. Of course, because of some of the information which crosses her desk, the Ministry can't be too careful, and she still must partake in the same codes of secrecy as her colleagues. Essentially? She's a spy without the bravado, without the gadgets, without the fight; she's not a duelist, she doesn't try to catch wizards gone wrong, she simply keeps her ear to the ground and decodes. Constantly; people, situations, information.
Financial Status: Middle class;
Angelina's job pays well and she isn't one to throw money around if it can be avoided.
Political Affiliation: The Light; loosely connected with The Order.
Social stereotype: The Adventurous
Personality: If
Angelina was forced to be branded with a motto that might sum up in few words her outlook on life, it would simply be: Work Hard, Play Hard. With such a store of drive and ambition, it's a wonder
Angelina didn't end up in Slytherin: when she knows what she wants, she puts everything she has into getting it, and doesn't stop until it's obtained. So what makes her Red and Gold rather than Silver and Green? The answer is somewhat ambiguous, despite the fact that she's given it a good deal of thought. Perhaps its that her goals are not as lofty as some; she doesn't need fame and recognition, which factored into her desicion to decline an offer to play Quidditch with the Holyhead Harpies. Perhaps most telling is the fact that, despite ulimately being extremely motivated,
Angelina isn't willing to sell-out in order to get somewhere. She may have a hot-headed Gryffindor streak in her, and you really don't want to get on the wrong side of a flare up, but she's considerably controlled. Inherently a curious puzzle-piece collector, her goals are rarely self-centered and usually more in the interest of some greater, over-arching plan. She isn't willing to step on people to get what she wants, and doesn't entirely care how she fits into a grander scheme. Ironically, however,
Angelina is a naturally passionate and powerful leader. She enjoys over-seeing things and has a panache for being able to see the larger picture in order to manuever and strategize. It is this particular talent which lended her so nicely to the position of Quidditch Captain.
Though
Angelina is very well-learned at controlling her temper, it does not stop her from being a fierecly passionate individual. Going off the deep-end rarely seems to help anything, and though on occasion she snaps and goes on a rampage, the situation has to be quite extreme. When met with high-stress,
Angelina becomes accutely focused on the task at hand and is blessed with the ability to work through her thoughts even in the middle of a rock concert. While some people need absolute silence in order to study,
Angelina could have been plonked in the common room while Fred and George destroyed the furniture and she wouldn't have been phased in the slightest. Good at keeping a poker face and superb at playing the "Bad Cop" when the situation calls for it, she's got enough cunning to control situations in her favour if she puts enough energy into it. Unfortunately, coupled with an inate curiousity and the at times absolute inability to leave things alone,
Angelina can find herself in sticky situations, most notably in her field of work as an Unspeakable.
She hasn't any problem keeping a secret, but it drives her
mad not knowing, for instance, what's going on in the next room. On occasion, this can turn into dehabilitating obsessivenes, restless nights without sleep, and inevitable break-down. It is in moments like these that
Angelina's temper has the shortest fuse, and most know what's best from them and steer clear when she appears fidgety.
Angelina's drive might mislead one into believing she's the perfect candidate for becoming a work-a-holic, but quite the opposite is true. Once off the clock, this fun-loving Gryffindor leaves the stresses of the office far behind and is able to completely relax. Adventurous, she lives up to the bravado her former House is known for and is never one to turn down a dare. If anything,
Angelina values the 'play hard' half of her outlook on life far more dearly than she should, and can be found most weekends living it up on the dance floor. If she could, she would probably spend the majority of her life laughing, and doesn't like to waste her time on people who take themselves too seriously. When time affords her the luxury,
Angelina is off and travelling the world; she has a list of 67 countries she wants to see before she dies, and a book full of activities she wants to do in them. Nothing is too gross to eat, too unsavoury to hold: snakes, spiders, poisonous fish, if something seems a little off-the-wall,
Angelina's right there, bouncing off them. This adventurous nature lends itself well to her athletic side. Despite no longer actively participating in Quidditch, she still is always game for a bit of pick-up, and has branced out to broom racing as well as other muggle sports. Currently, she's intent on learning to surf and is attempting to find a way to get around travelling in order to do so. No matter the task at hand, you can rest assured that Angie will get the job done putting 110% into it; be it some top-secret mission or a night out on the town,
Angelina doesn't stop until the rest of the world is fast asleep.
Childhood: It is true that every position within the nuclear family, be it youngest or oldest, comes with its tribulations; as the third of four children and the only female in the Johnson family,
Angelina can safely say she's really got the raw end of the deal. Perhaps had she been the baby, there would have been some element of doting which she might have benefited from; had her father been not so rough and tumble and her mother so entirely preoccupied in her nationalistic writings, perhaps
Angelina might have milked the gender card for all it was worth. But as it stands,
Angelina was simply another mouth to feed, with little sway on the runnings of the family, and became as it were, her own, independant person. The Johnsons were a complicated family with two distinct features which made the process of self-identification somewhat troubling. Hailing from
Jamaica, Antoinette was a creole woman with a whole peoples' history on her shoulders and brought to
London the popular intrigue that is associated with the
West Indies. Despite a fairly unusual, even magical history, Thomas Johnson thought little of it, and was drawn to Toni because of her passion for their shared heritage and her fiery, revolutionary spirit. Working in his father's exotic restaurant, it seemed likely that Tommy would remain in Brixton and eventually take over the small, but somewhat profitable family business. Toni was content, so long as she had a room to write in and something to be angry about; as it goes, she would find more than her fair share in the South end of
London.
Growing up in a rather rough neighbourhood,
Angelina couldn't help but feel she was different than her peers. Not only had she the weight of her Jamaican heritage on her back, she couldn't help but notice that strange things seemed to happen when she was around. The former was rather the norm in her neighbourhood, a predominantly black neighbourhood who cherished their culture and refused to assimilate. Their music, food, even language harkened back to the same island and
Angelina never felt either British or Jamaican -- instead some odd hybrid thereof. Her brothers, on the other hand, never felt the need to contemplate this problem of identification, and took to the same activities as their peers. None were terribly motivated at school, all felt oppressed by 'the hand of the man', and the three sought refuge in the hip-hop legacy of
South London. So far as she could tell, they were all complete idiots with no motivation, no direction, and no self-respect. On occasion she could let loose and laugh with them, but for the most part she was under the distinct impression that her brothers were a bunch of animals. It didn't help that their father was constantly droning on about getting out from under someone's thumb; so far as
Angelina could tell, her brothers and father had just as much opportunity as anyone else.
She might not have been able to take them seriously, but she could at least relate to them better than her mother, who acknowledged
Angelina's gift as something like her own, but didn't much care to give the girl any pointers. More often than not, Toni stayed up in her room for days working on some novel or other, undoubtedly about a land
Angelina knew she was
suppose to relate to, but couldn't quite grasp. This loneliness, while acute, was patched up by her keen drive in school and her formidable athletic talents outside the classroom. The best thing about growing up with three brothers was her innate ability to take whatever was thrown her way and punch back -- harder. Despite on the whole thinking her three brothers were a joke, that didn't stop Angie from kicking back with them, indulging in their music, and showing them up at whatever sport they chose. Their relationship, while superficial, was strong, and there are few people
Angelina knows she can rely on more than her three brothers, idiots though they may well be.
At eleven, however, her whole world changed when she received a letter from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her mother was unphased, her father only vaguely confused and concerned with its cost, and her brothers quite amused by the entire situation. But
Angelina felt that, for the first time, this might be the answer to her problem of self-identification, and resolved that, come hell or high water, she would attend. And attend she did. Hogwarts for
Angelina was another challenge and certainly a new chance to explore a side of herself she'd only been peripherally aware existed. Her classes presented a new way of looking at the world, and while she was no Ravenclaw, she was always ready to take on the new and unexplored. Every summer she arrived home with good grades which gave her, at the very least, a grunt and a nod from her father, and little by little her mother began to take a more vested interest in her. Perhaps it was her coming of age, perhaps the shared talent for making things change from one thing to another: whatever it was, the two grew steadily closer, despite never sharing a conventionally close mother-daughter relationship. It was this connection, however, which caused Toni to ask
Angelina to accompany her to visit
Jamaica the summer before her fifth year, a trip that would consequently change her life. Magic and culture united, for the first time in a long time,
Angelina found she fit in somewhere and has since took extreme pride in her background. Her love for the island is infectious, and she more readily accepted her brothers bloody hip-hop and their attitude toward holding onto who they were.
But summer didn't last forever, and
Angelina soon found herself back at Hogwarts, feeling rather more comfortable in her own skin. Times seemed darkening in her world, and yet she wasn't completely aware of what was going on. Having picked up Arithmancy and Ancient Runes,
Angelina found herself excelling in these two subjects specifically as they asked her to use the distinctly analytical part of her brain; coupled with Transifuration, and it could be said that these three subjects were her best. But she wasn't only being noticed in the classroom; it was actually her talents on the field along with those of her best friends, Alicia and Katie, which got Angie a name for herself. She was riding high on the Gryffindor glory that had belonged to the team since Harry Potter had arrived, and found in her teammates a constant source of laughter. Unlike Oliver Wood, she didn't take the game
too seriously, and though she enjoyed a good win, she wasn't under the impression that the sport was the be-all-end-all. Rather, it brought her together with the people most likely to make her laugh, and
that made practise so high on her lists of pleasures. By her sixth year, she was still riding high and even attempted to try for Hogwarts Champion during the illusive Triwizard Tournament; though she was a little sore over her loss not only to Cedric but to Harry Potter, she soon was able to overcome her disappointment and see that, perhaps, it was best she didn't win afterall. She'd come to see that life happens the way it ought to, that curve balls get thrown in your direction at the moments you least expect it -- live and let live, if you could, and never let something keep you from getting back up.
But by her seventh year,
Angelina found that this easy-breezy attitude to living life didn't necessarily prepare one for what was 'out there'. The added responsibility of becoming Quidditch captain -- a position she took quite seriously -- and the pressure of growing up made her seventh and final year at Hogwarts her least enjoyable. It didn't help that midway through, the Weasleys up and left her; with Katie staying behind and under the impression that Alicia had her life together, Angie withdrew into herself and became more snappish than usual. Though her diligence would pay off with fantastic NEWT results, she can't help but regret that her last year at Hogwarts proved less than fabulous and would give a lot to go back and fix things up.
War involvements: After a year of much stress,
Angelina found herself to be relieved to leave Hogwarts behind, in spite of the six brilliant years she'd spent there. Though she immediately regretted not having had a better send-of, her marks reflected the work she'd put into her academics and it didn't take long for her to find work. To say that various Departments were fighting over her wold be a stretch, but to say that the Ministry was pleased to have her would not be misleading. Many expected
Angelina to try her hand at Professional Quidditch, but she decided she wanted to dedicate her life to something which might give her a better sense of accomplishment. So, as the summer began to wind down, it seemed cemented that come September, she'd be occupying an office, moving away from Brixton, and finding herself well on the way to a promising career.
And she was! Just not in
England. A chance turn of events found
Angelina packing up her bags and deciding she wasn't quite sure to settle down. Her Brixton home was crowded and the magical world seemed a scary place. Intent to find herself and nostalgic for the summer she'd spent in Jamaica, early October saw
Angelina living with her grandparents on the tiny tropical island. The Jamaican Ministry of Magic
were fighting over her; their resources were limited and their personel stretched, and the organization of the British MOM seemed a world away. So too, one might suspect, did the war which was unfolded as she worked to climb the career ladder and learn the names of all the exotic and colourful fish; but
Jamaica wasn't without its own political ties. Having inherited a deeply Anglo-centric history of oppression, much of the island was rife with excitement at the prospect of
England falling victim to Lord Voldemort. Being a culture deeply embued in their own magical roots,
Angelina soon found herself in the midst of a mini-revolution with more than just a little bit of work on her hands. She quickly began operating to gather intelligence; being relatively young and pretty, she found that she was able to assimilate into those most vocal about rising up to join forces with the Dark Lord an ocean away. So well, in fact, that there were times in the war when she was able to pass information back onto the Order, who she'd remained distantly connected to through her earlier work with the DA and more specifically, the Weasley twins. An utter professional, the Jamaican ministry soon decided her star was on the rise. But
Angelina wasn't settled.
Having travelled a great deal, the idea of returning to the
U.K. in the middle of such violence was unsettling. Alternately,
Angelina couldn't quite swallow the idea of hiding it out in the
West Indies. After much soul searching and many long conversations with her grandparents,
Angelina decided to return to the British Ministry in the hopes that she skills she'd learned might make her an asset to the more pressing political plight of her home country. No matter how beautiful
Jamaica had been, she realized upon her arrival that this was where she belonged and didn't look back once. Having received an invitation to work at the British Ministry,
Angelina decided that it only made sense to return to
England. But Brixton no longer seemed like home, overcrowded and hostile in comparison to the sandy beaches of
Jamaica. At the end of 2001,
Angelina found a flat in
Euphoria Lane, the perfect mix she decided between bustling and relaxing. It was in the middle of wizarding
London but didn't have the same raccuous atmosphere that made Brixton so unique. By chance, an add placed by
Savannah Fawcett caught her eye, and though the two hadn't been best friends in school, their acquaintance through their professions made it a natural choice. It's nice to have someone
Angelina can relate to in an otherwise anonymous field, and though she has her reservations, the two get on quite well.
Angelina now works mainly in the Department of Mysteries for the British Ministry of Magic.
Height: 5'8.
Distinguishing marks/features? Angelina's bright green eyes offet her dark skin, and a smattering of freckles across her nose mark her as different from her brothers. Beyond that, however, there isn't a lot to distinguish her as special; she is, on the whole, a pretty girl.
