General Synopsis of Personality, Relationships, and So Forth: There is no way to get around the fact that Lavender Abigail Brown is, by all respects, an exceedingly silly girl. Without being vain, she spends her free time frivolously: on hair, on clothes, and on boys. Known for her high-pitched giggle and her insistent need to whisper excitedly to her best friend, Parvati, she comes across as somewhat dim-witted and, for lack of a better word, ditzy.

And this would not be wholly incorrect; for the most part, Lavender enjoys and indulges in the more stereotypically feminine aspects of her personality. Unsurprisingly, she has an over-active imagination which leads to bouts of paranoia, night-terrors and the misconception that everyone is always talking about her. This imaginative capacity has fueled her ardent interest in the mysterious beyond, in Divination and the veil that separates our world from The Other. Surprisingly intuitive, it would be a mistake to discard her interest as naivety; she isn't necessarily an extremely gifted Seer, but she certainly has a natural streak and an affinity for palmistry, especially.

The Gryffindor tends to be somewhat impulsive and headstrong, latching onto an idea in a moment's turn and then obsessing over it for weeks. Few of her interests remain fixed for long, leading to her spending many a day re-arranging the furniture in her room or spending an entire afternoon purging her closet.

Lavender suffers from a wide-range of excitable emotions which can change in a moments notice. She is considerably sulky, a natural whiner who could, by all respects, make a living out of complaining. Pouting, sighing and scowling are especial talents, which she tends to utilize if she feels she is not getting her way. The silliest things can set her off – and not because she's self conscious – making her extremely touchy. Her obsessive nature makes it difficult for her to deal with change and also makes Parvati the ideal best friend. The two are literally glued to the hip, making the Gryffindor girl the first friend Lavender has had who is not adverse to her clinginess.

Her relationships are, therefore, quite predictable and as extreme as her emotions. There is little grey area in her interactions, though she doesn't actually hate many people. Despite having crushed on the majority of boys in the school, she (surprisingly) settled on Ron Weasley last year, much to the dismay of most around her. Of course, the break-up didn't sit well with her; she has taken to sulky about the common rooms and giving Ron the sharpest of glares. Of course, she is coming to terms with the fact that it never would have worked – as Parvati pointed out, his red hair did not look nice next to her complexion – however, she can't help but make snarky comments in the direction of Hermione Granger when she has a chance.

As for the war, Lavender's involvement in the DA affords those around her a surprisingly redemptive perspective as to who she is. Stead-fast in her belief in social equality, she rarely gives a second's thought to her somewhat dangerous position. Genuinely caring (as displayed by her love of animals), she tends to be fiercely protective of those who share her ideals and beliefs. Crossing the line is simply not an option.

Brief Background Information
: Born on a lazy day in the first prospects of summer, Lavender arrived as the first daughter and last child to Peter and Anita Brown. The pair, still in the early years of their 30's, saw their daughter as the perfect way to round-out their young family, which had already been blessed with two boys: Peter and Gavin. The pair had met, as many do, while attending Hogwarts: both in Hufflepuff, both eager to get out into the real-world and begin a life on their own. However, it was not until some years later – four, to be exact, after graduation had completed – that their paths crossed again and they began a romantic relationship. With the brutality of the war upon them, Peter took over his father's hotel in Brighton where the two lived as muggles and with little incident until the war would be completed.

By the time Lavender was born, the two were more than comfortable monetarily and, despite distancing themselves from the world they had both come to love, content in their choice of lifestyle. When the war was over, the two contemplated moving into a neighbourhood where their children could befriend more of their own kind. In the end, they decided to stay put and, with a good deal of luck, managed to sniff out the magical folk who had been in their presence these few years past.

Lavender spent her childhood rather uneventfully: the town of Brighton was lively and sophisticated, easily filling her head with romantic, dreamy nonsense and an avid love for all things Jane Austen. Her father's petting and her mother's delight in having a little girl made her, more often than not, a child who was used to having her own way and an outsider to her brother's game. However, it was not her spoiled personality which kept the other children at bay – for there were certainly enough of them to go around within her parent's circle – rather, it was Lavender's distinct difference that left her with few to call friend. Unlike her brothers (who, after all, had each other) she had little control over her temper and her infinitely vast range of emotions. Her outbursts often sparked odd, uncanny events which even her parents could not patch over.

Which left her and her ego on their own. For far, far too much time. She spent countless hours dressing up and putting on make-up, flipping through Gladrag's catalogues and dreaming up lavish fantasies that usually ended in her doing less-than-modest things with some handsome knight-errant. As her brother's grew older and moved to Hogwarts (Peter a Hufflepuff, Gavin a Gryffindor) she spent more and more time in her own world of imaginative creation and less in the real world. Befriending the young girl who worked the hotel's front-desk, Lavender learned from the older and much more experienced girl about boys, french-kissing and all the latest muggle fashions. Her frivolity grew in size until even one Mr. Bennet would no longer be able to boast the silliest daughters in England.

The Brown's large homestead afforded them too many pets, all of which Lavender spent hours taking care of, having much spare time: her mother had "home-schooled" the children, which often meant they were able to do as they chose. Chickens, bunnies, goats, and two horses, she surprised her family by exhibiting a caring, even maternal side: she was, truly, an affection creature.

Of course, her parents were devastated to see their prized possession take off for Hogwarts, though not surprised to see her sorted into Gryffindor. Delighted to find a true bosom-buddy in Parvati, she grasped onto the friendship offered and hasn't let go since. Despite not being book-smart, she isn't, by any means, failing out of her classes. Much of her time is spent complaining about homework and mooning over boys – certainly, you would not believe how sorry she was to see that poor Cedric die…what lovely eyes he had! – and comparing results with Parvati on their latest Divinations assignment. She excels at Divination, of course, matched only by her affinity for Astronomy class. Little of her time is devoted to giving much thought to the future; for now, she is happy to live in the moment, however frivolously she may wish to spend it.

Plot Ideas
: As Lavender isn't necessarily the brightest bulb in the bunch but is steadfastly a Pro-Potterite, I suspect she could easily muck things up. Reading up on the lavender flower and essays on Lavender Brown, I discovered that the lavender plant is known to be a beautiful, alluring flower which actually often hides snakes – perhaps unwittingly. Knowing her obsessive, often impulsive nature, there is surely a chance that she could bring someone among the D.A. who is not worthy.

Anything Else
: Lavender dots her "I"s with hearts and is disgusted by each and every vegetable. She is picky, picky, picky and dedicates hours to informing people exactly what is wrong with their hair. In, of course, the nicest way possible.
