Enemies: Severus Snape, John Mulciber, Gabriel Corner
Significant Other: Augustin Pierre DuBois

Personality and History: The MacDonald family, for all intents and purposes, is not a very rich one. Jackson is a rubbish collector for the city of Derby, Kate is a hair dresser with her own, very small, salon. Fact: they live in an old farm house, which does not actually have a farm attached to it, but still. Despite the smaller income, they made things work for them and their three daughters. The middle of three children, Mary was very content to hide in the shadow of her elder sister Amanda. That is, until she received a visit from McGonagall and an invitation to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Her parents found the idea simply absurd and nearly said no, but when Mary begged (and McGonagall promised that monetary funds would not be an issue), they agreed. Their only request was that Mary come home for all holidays and kept in touch, to which Mary was more than happy to oblige.

She boarded the Hogwarts Express her first year, bright eyed and nervous. She wondered if she was the only person who was new to this, who wasn't...it was very nerve wracking as a whole. But she survived, found people and quickly made friends with Sebastian Goldstein. The second time through her travels was much easier, and she even managed to make friends with a few other muggleborns, including Lily Evans. Despite the friends she made quickly, she also had a great deal of difficulty dealing with many of the more snooty, "holier than thou" types at the school. Because of her new found independence at Hogwarts, she became quite vocal about her upbringing, often times standing up for herself to the point of nearly getting set with detention.

Her vocal personality ended up getting her in trouble, though, when she was attacked in her fourth year by John Mulciber. She was quite shaken, but it didn't stop her. She started a very makeshift newspaper, more of a newsletter that was passed around the Gryffindor commons, saving a small column of it for an editorial, usually about the rights of this group or that group. She only wrote a few before growing tired of spending hours of her time orchestrating it all but she found her passion, and a way to communicate her frustrations and anger (or joy, every now and then) in a healthy way, in the process. After finishing school, she submitted her writing portfolio to the Daily Prophet, who readily took her up to work in their current events department, with a piece here and there featured in the opinion section. She has a tendency to be given the muggle current events jobs more than her colleagues, which is bothersome at times but she tolerates it the best she can. Unfortunately, muggleborn prejudice created a tense work environment for Mary and caused her to quit her post at the paper.

Mary and Gabriel had a rather interesting relationship in the late 70s/early 80s. The two met at a masquerade, hooked up, and ended up having a child together. But the vast differences in their lives up to that point got in the way. On June 13th, 1980, Mary gave birth to Michael Lawrence Corner. Shortly after, Mary moved to Paris to fill a post with a wizarding newspaper. Michael has split time between his father and mother, becoming a world traveler before he could walk. While in Paris, Mary met a bloke named Pierre Matthiau DuBois. He performed sporadically at the coffee shop she frequented. The two hit it off well and frequent meetings for coffee blossomed into something more. In a rashly Mary moment, the two decided to elope. They were happy, they felt an instant connection. And in Mary's opinion, at least she was making something official this time before even thinking about children.

Things have been hard as of late, however, between Mary and Gabriel. Split custody can be difficult with such high amounts of travel. It was that and a very generous offer from the Daily Prophet that brought Mary back to London. So with that, Mary and Pierre have packed their things and made their way to England. How she'll fit back into her old ways is yet to be seen, as is how Gabriel Corner will react to the news.

Likes: writing, the smell of fresh cut grass, telly, spending time with her family, sticking up for muggleborns and their rights, cheese...she really really loves cheese, quidditch, travel
Dislikes: death eaters, putting her parents through ordeals and drama, herbology
Alignment: definitely order leaning, though she does not know about the group
Finding myself making every possible mistake

Gryffindor Aquarius: Gryffindor Aquarians are the social activists and loons of their House. They'll picket for House Elf Liberation. They'll wear their robes inside out because they spent all night reading, not pay attention to how they dressed the next day, and not care if their rumpled appearance is pointed out to them. They are intellectual rebels and will loudly defend their opinions, even if doing so makes enemies. They are apt to question authority. "Even Merlin was wrong, some of the time," they'll say, shrugging. While not particularly good at dealing with crisis situations (they stress out easily) they do tend to have enough foresight to see the situations coming, and prevent them from happening in the first place. They can be flamboyantly talented, but are less interested in using their talent to "make it big" than in using it to make a better life for themselves or other people. Because Gryffindor tends to be a flamboyant house, these oddballs (they are always odd) tend to stick out for being unusual.
But why all this hate? try to communicate

Disclaimer: Not real. I do not own Harry Potter or any other copyrighted characters. I do not own Mary MacDonald, but her characterization is of my own making. I'm also not Ruby Aldridge, although she is quite lovely.

Finding trust and love is not always easy to make
