Current mood:party time.

an unbirthday celebration!

it's keira's birthday! the city is manhattan new york, the time is the evenings of friday the 28th, saturday the 29th and sunday the 30th inclusive and the guests are all of you lovely people! the first party venue is a rented loft space in midtown, which will house one and all til the wee hours of saturday morning. on the saturday evening, the rooftop area of the soho house is being prepared for the main party, and the sunday night is drinks at the bar at the bowery ballroom, and then a showing of chapter 27. the theme of the party is an unbirthday, so all sorts of randomness ensues in the decor. the invite suggested dressing vibrantly with as much colour as possible. friday and saturday night also have a prepaid open bar for guests. all that remains to be said is - have fun!

Keira had only arrived in New York City the evening before her birthday celebrations, and was still feeling a little bit of the jetlag and time difference that day, but by the time dusk rolled around, she was more than a little bit excited for the impromptu party that had turned into a whole celebratory weekend production. Her mum had been excellent in making all of the calls and arranging it all, believing that it would be in Kei's best interests to let her hair down for a weekend. Normally, she preferred to live as a hermit (press permitting), and keep herself to herself in her little flat, with her small, microcosmic life. She wasn't associated with fame or Hollywood or all of the glamourous crap that she was so bad at. But this time, she had decided to let her hair down, leave England and it's rain and snow behind for a bit, and look to greener (and considerably less sober) pastures. It could be owed to Sienna and Rosario in large part that she had taken this decision on such a whim, but hey, who's to say it wasn't exactly what she needed?

Slipping into her custom-made Alice in Wonderland-style gown and her pair of 'ruby slippers', that were actually just gorgeous Alexander McQueen peep toes, she looked over herself in the mirror, smirking a little as 'Hollywood Keira' made her appearance. She had always done that, named this made-up, pretty princess persona something different, because her life was not this glamourous life the public gave her. It was a much smaller, much quieter life that she sometimes felt drifting. Well, not tonight. Tonight was about laughter and about being random and crazy and blindsighting herself to another year going by that she had never quite put her finger to. Time suddenly becomes something you chase, from the moment you learn to walk, or so Keira's mother had always told her. It was ringing more true with every year.

As she arrived at the venue, she could already see a few friendly faces, checking her coat with one of the waiting staff she had hired and making her way into the beautifully decorated loft. They had really gone all out for the evening! It was a dimly lit, fairy-lighted fantasy land, complete with creeping ivy around tables and chairs, what seemed to be the Cheshire cat's tree looking over the dancefloor, and a head table which was definately a perfect copy of the Mad Hatter's teaparty. From oversized colourful kettles and jars sprung flowers, ribbons, tealights, all manner of delicious treats and she could just make out the custom cocktails with the perfect 'Drink Me' tags, lined up against the far wall. It was perfect, and brought a smile to Keira's face instantly. "Fuck me..." she muttered to herself, looking around in awe even as she became accustomed to the space, fiddling anxiously with a strand of her long, chocolate brown hair. Smiling at a nearby waiter offering her a flute of her favorite drink - Kir Royale (it had truly been thought out to the last detail) - Keira accepted graciously, taking a sip of the drink and looking about her, still trying to gain her bearings.

Ro had been running around all day. It was one of those things that happened whenever she ventured into the city. Go see Mom, Grandma, Frick and Frack and then actually settle down to business. Before she knew it she had met with a few people whom she had been working with on her newest edition of the OCT, as well as a quick lunch with one of her childhood best friends. Now it was time for the party. She briefly had spoken to Keira and knew there was a slight theme and attempted to play off of it. It was appropriate that she came dressed as the Queen of Hearts. Modernized, of course. She wore her hair as she always wore it lately. Long and tusseled, just so that it eached down at her breast bone. Tonight was about Kei and her "Unbirthday Party" and the simple fact that Kei's party was a much needed excuse to actually have fun. Once she made it to the venue, she took her good time speaking to a few friends before she actually made it into the main part. Everything looked fabulous. Once offered a drink after she made it to the event, she saw Kei admiring her own planned work of art and journeyed over to her. "I think this is totally the best unbirthday party I've ever been to."

Keira smiled instantly as Rosario came over to her, the warmth lighting up her face as it always did whenever someone she knew came and eased her slight natural discomfort that she carried with her. "Thank you. They've really gone all out, haven't they? I knew my family loved me and everything but... bloody hell." Keira chuckled, looking around the room before letting her gaze rest once again on Rosario. "I'm so glad you could make it. Are you having a good time?" She asked, a tint of concern furrowing her brow slightly. She really was the sweetest woman, and Kei had been happy to get to know her better of late. There wasn't a doubt in her mind as to whether they would enjoy themselves together tonight.

He was late, but he'd been busy, and they'd deal with it. Jared's attention alternated between the party and his blackberry. Was it really surprising? Half work, half personal- the emails and the messaging was constantly happening. He was in New York for the weekend, and it was home-bound to Los Angeles afterwards. In any event, he told Keira he would show for her birthday, and he was a man of his word. It hadn't occured to him to find her because he assumed he'd eventually spot her, and say hello. Jared wasn't as chatty as he probably should have been when attending a birthday party, clearly packed, but it could have been worse! It appeared the majority of Keira's guests were... dressed up or in costume, and he took a second to glance over what he was wearing, realizing he must have stood out like a sore thumb. It was slightly amusing, but he didn't mind. There wasn't anybody he recognized in sight, not yet anyway, and his focus returned to his blackberry gripped with both hands.

Keira wasn't usually much good with personal skills - she tended to blabber or close up and not say anything at all, she was shit with putting a name to a face, she never remembered anything more than the sound of someone's voice or what they had been wearing - but spotting Jared Leto was like picking a twizzler out of a stack of hay. She grinned instantly as soon as her eyes fell on him - he did look slightly out of place, but then, so did everything in the room. Kei toyed with the idea of going over to him for a moment, before actually making the resolution to. Finishing her flute off and crossing the room towards where he stood, with what she guessed was the infamous blackberry, she tilted her head a little, trying to meet his eyes before abandoning that strategy and trying for wit instead. "Is this when I meet Blackberry Leto, then?" She asked with a warm smile, feeling instantly that anything she could have said in that moment would have been better than that. Making an apologetic face, she grinned and continued. "Thank you for coming, it's really lovely to see you."

The truth was, the circulating voices and laughter had been tuned out and he hadn't noticed Keira was standing as close as she was until she had specifically addressed his phone. Go figure. His head lifted and he looked at her, his eyes slightly bigger as he smiled. Shortly after he raised his blackberry, and introduced the two, "This is her. I'd let you hold her since it's your party, but she's picky about how she's handled." He was joking, sort of. Keira looked great, completely fancy. He, on the other hand, not so much. Jared slipped his phone into his coat's pocket before stating somewhat dryly, but with a smile. "I'm surprised you found me." She appeared unsure, but it might have been his imagination. However, he was fully aware he had a way of making people uncomfortable whether he intended to or not. Jared broke eye contact for a moment before remarking, "Of course. You're having a blast I bet." He arched an eyebrow, questioning, "You are, aren't you."

"Lovely to meet you, Blackberry Leto..." She addressed smoothly, with a wry grin on her face, the kind that glimmered occasionally through her nerves and quite obvious discomfort around people to show that she was actually a bit of a sarcastic old bastard if you gave her the chance. Smirking, she continued. "I wouldn't want to handle her the wrong way. You might suspect me of sabotage or something..." Keira had a very dry wit, and there were only a few people that really understood her sense of humour, but with a little alcohol inside her and the suspiscion that Jared might not be just another American rockstar, she was willing to share a joke with him without worrying too much about the consequences. "You're pretty hard to miss!" Keira said instantly in reply to his comment, breaking out into an easy smile. "Yes, yes, it's great. To tell you the truth I'm really shit at this but... I don't know. I s'pose my friends and family were sick of me playing hermit in London so they sent me here to make a complete arse of myself..."
