Premise/Rules

On the coast of Oregon, expertly hidden from Muggle view, Eligere Institute has been training young wizarding minds and preparing them for their adult lives for generations. Unlike some other magical schools, this one is quite exclusive, however. Since it's founding, Eligere has only accepted students from the finest families, students whose bloodlines were proven along with their capacity for academic excellence. This is a school for the Pureblood Elite.

Things run differently in the society of these witches and wizards. Many of the old ways are still embraced. Magic is not seen as good or evil, dark or light. Marriages are still arranged for many of these children - something which the school both supports and encourages. Boys are expected to pursue rewarding and lucrative careers while furthering their family's good name. Girls are expected to play their part in this, learning to be good wife, to run a proper household, and they are, of course, expected to marry a proper man and do their part to give him heirs.

We find ourselves, now, almost halfway through the 2009-2010 term at the Eligere Institute of Magical Edification, where we will follow the lives of the students in the upper grades - what most Muggles would call "high school." Our students are in grades nine through twelve, at ages ranging from fourteen to eighteen. Freshmen are growing acclimated their new surroundings, adjusting to the more rigorous academic of the upper Institute.. Juniors in the arranged marriage program and preparing themselves for married life by sharing a suite with their intended mates. Sophomores are either dreading or looking forward to that transition, unless they are one of the few who have not been promised to another. Seniors are preparing to take their last exams, being wooed by prospective future employers, planning their weddings and generally preparing to enter the real world.

Eligere is a role playing game set in real time that focuses on the social interaction the students in the upper institute. A majority of our students will be in the arranged marriage program and those matches will be chose for them by the mods at random. Will those random pairings win out or will some of our students rebel and find love elsewhere? That is what we're here to find out...

THE RULES

  1. Don't be a douche. This is really the most important rule, actually. I don't think we need to go into detail on what this rule means. IC drama = good. OOC drama =/= good. If you have an issue with a player, talk to them or talk to us and we will mediate. Talking shit about people behind their backs, refusing to play with someone because you don't like them - these will get you kicked out faster than you can sneeze.

    • Be active. All we're asking is that you do something with each of your characters once a week or so - whether it's journal comments, journal entries or threading. We're not going to do a formal activity check every week, but if we notice that we haven't seen activity from your character(s) for several weeks, we will be issuing a warning, which could lead to you being removed from the game if you fail to respond.

    • Please use the following format on all of your posts for consistency and don't forget to tag your threads according to player, character and status! For logs, please use some method of separating each players replies (such as bolding the every other tag, etc) to make things easier for us to follow when we're checking up on activity.

    • The character limit is four characters. Active players will be permitted up to six, providing that at least half of them are male. We are not placing a limit as to how many you can submit at a time, but we do encourage you to space them out and to carefully consider how many characters you can keep active before you join. We also ask that you keep a reasonable balance of male to female characters. Due to the premise of our game, we'd like to have an even balance in the genders, therefore for those who have more than one or two characters, we are asking that they not all be female. We'd rather not get into a situation where we have to cap apps on girls COMPLETELY because we have too many.

    • Don't play a Mary Sue/Gary Stu/Cock Hop. These kids are rich, they're purebloods, many of them are elitist. They are not, however, perfect. They have their flaws, just like anyone else. We encourage you to app characters who are both interesting and realistic. In addition, things like promiscuity and homosexuality are highly discouraged in the society these characters live in. We aren't banning gay or promiscuous characters, but keep in mind that a character who engages in these sorts of things out in the open would meet dire consequences. The girls, especially, will be assumed by their families and their future fiancés to be pure and virginal.

  2. If you have questions or concerns, TALK TO THE MODS. We aren't mind readers. We are all about mediating difficult situations and always doing what is right for the game as a whole, but we can't do that if you guys don't talk to us about things. We promise you that we will never make you feel like we don't care or we aren't listening, so please don't be afraid to approach either of us with whatever is on your mind. If you don't see us on AIM, you can always shoot us an email at eligeremod@gmail.com.

TIMELINE/DAY CHANGES

Rather than running in real time, a day at Eligere will last for one week in real time. Day changes will occur each Monday and the mods will post a day change reminder each week along with a summary of any important events your character should be aware of - activities for the current day, gossip your character should be aware of, etc. It is our hope that this will make it easier to complete threads close to when they will have taken place and allow us to take our time to really enjoy playing out our characters high school years.
