I think you need to confront him about it. Like, tell him you don't want the same stuff to happen again and that he's being stupid and totally can't afford to lose someone as awesome as you a second time because you won't be back or something, I don't know! But definitely tell him straight, and make sure he's in a position where he has to listen. Tie him down or something. I have rope.
