Contrary to popular belief, there are a few good things about in-laws. Mainly the fact that they think they're being ever-so-gracious in taking your child away for the day as if it is their duty to culture them, because obviously they do not get enough of it at home.

Oh, well. Jacob hates the petting zoo. I'm sure he and Nana Derrick will have tons of fun with the alpacas and sheep. Now I have time to do run some errands.

Sorry, sometimes a public rant is necessary.

Of course. When I think 'culture' I think 'alpacas'.

Is it bad that I know for sure he's going to start shrieking the moment he lays eyes on a goat?

I think it's kind of your job as a Mum to know that sort of stuff.

But...let me get this straight.

He's not a fan of goats, or sheep, or alpacas, and yet she insists on taking him to a place where there are goats, sheep, and alpacas?

Huh. Makes perfect sense.

Oh, of course it makes sense, Caden! Goodness, don't you know? Children are young (I could've sworn Jacob was a hundred and thirty), they can be molded. Why, if I don't take him to petting zoos, I may be destroying the future of the next greatest animal healer there is.

Please tell me she didn't actually use the word molded.

She's very wise, my mother-in-law. When she's not making me cry molding my son into the next Newt Scamander, she's giving life lessons on...well, living. And how to clean dishes appropriately.

And how to cook.

Just make sure her and I are never in the same room if you want to keep good relations with her.

That may be reason enough to have you both over for dinner.

I completely agree, Stell. It is the one thing I am thankful for with my in-laws. Hopefully my nephew won't be too traumatised by the animals. He should come and visit with Caleigh sometime. I imagine she's less likely to bite than an alpaca.

If I can manage to get him to stop having nightmares, then of course!

Perhaps your mother-in-law and my mother-in-law should get together to have tea and plot how to slowly destroy our progeny.

That would be splendid, Tobias, and maybe while they're off doing that, we could be plotting their demise. Not that I'd ever think of such horrid things.

Wouldn't it just? And of course you wouldn't. You're my angelic little sister. You would never have such a harsh thought about anyone. But we should. I feel as though I never see you anymore.

It's because you're off saving lives and I'm busy hiding from cameraman who sleep in my flower garden.

Some in your situation might consider adding a Venomous Tentacula or two to their flower garden to keep out such nuisances.

Not that I would ever suggest you should do such a thing.

Of course you wouldn't.

Now, is there any chance I could tear you away from your flowerbed photographers long enough to have lunch with your favourite brother one day this week?

I think that is definitely doable, dear brother. Time and place? My schedule is rather forgiving.

If tomorrow isn't too soon, the Leaky Cauldron at half twelve? Saturday is also doable if that doesn't work.

That's perfect, and I think I can drop Jacob off with Florence instead of the she-devil, so that's fine.
