Sebastian BachBackground History: Jiraiya’s background is rather complicated and lengthy, like his life, filled with intrigue, humor, and skeletons.
He was born to a modest family with two older brothers and one younger one. Needless to say it was easy to get lost in his large family, so early on, Jiraiya learned to be as loud and dramatic as possible in order to garner a few moments of attention. He was also rather unpopular with most of the other kids on his block, if only because he was loud, clumsy, and a bit pudgy not exactly ideal when most of the game required someone to be talented in something. However, he did have a few good friends, if by good friends one meant someone who didn’t automatically write off his existence, and Tsunade was one of them.
In school he was often the troublemaker, and while his teachers often tried to curb his energy into something like sports, it never stuck. He got decent enough grades, and he was often called brilliant, if only he would apply himself. Jiraiya was more interested in chasing girls (even if it ended in a slap) and daydreaming about being great than worrying about his GPA. He eeked by with barely passing grades, and headed off to college.
Since his family didn’t have the money to pay for it, he started writing essays for other students, a pretty lucrative business if a bit illegal, and he found that he had a way with the pen. He made good money, and along with his job at the student exchange office, he managed to keep himself afloat. However, he got bored in one place too long easily, so he took advantage numerous times of studying abroad, picking up French and Spanish in order to aid his frequent traveling. He earned his degree in English as quickly as he could, and tried to get a few jobs around local high schools to teach. He also began working on what he hoped would be his magnum opus, a book about a hero who embodied what he believed to be a moral and good life.
