i think new acounts only support style 2. which is shit, because that style if for the html illiterate, and really the only customization you can do is between their layout styles. It really sucks. I'm trying to find a way around it.

I don't see why he would. Unless he's making a decent amount of money off of donations and/or advertisements. I think that gj got to be more than he could handle, or maybe he didn't expect it to be as big as it was. The same will probably happen here eventually.
