Rules of conduct.
This section is constantly under revision.

There are no hidden rules here, no codewords sneakily hidden between the do's and don'ts that you need to find and add to your application lest it be rejected in the space of time it took Strong Bad to go through his emails and enter DELETED! in the 20th episode. (You know the one.) A good portion of the rules really shouldn't come as a surprise, as they're common sense.

01. On writing

Writing is expected to be of a certain caliber; we aren't snobs, but we loathe chatspeak and its feared cousin, sticky-caps. Roleplay (threading and IM logs) is to take place in third person, past tense ("storybook style"), while letters are (obviously) to be written in first person (unless your character refers to him/herself in the third person!). Both should be of some substance, by which we mean that posts of any sort that are longer than three sentences are love.

02. On interaction

IC =/= OOC. Never, ever.

03. On activity

It's not a game if you don't play, so we'd like to see an update (either a scene or a conversation over owls) at least once every two weeks. We'll be doing activity checks and posting a list of those who need to get the ball rolling, after which you'll have 48 hours to show us you're still around. Should you need a hiatus, let us know, just please don't disappear on us!

04. On age

There is no limit--within reason. We'll be dealing with themes of the darker sort (racial prejudice, death, and sex, to name but a few) and scenes of the R/NC-17 sort will occur. Don't apply if you can't handle them.

05. On canon

Inlimis aims to explore a point of view that is readily dismissed as evil in the books, which entails making numerous tweaks to what they had to say. In that sense, this game toes the line between canon and alternate universe. We are, however, sticking to the books as far as major early plot points are concerned: the Potters will die, Andromeda will be blasted off the family tree, etc. Through Harry's biased eyes, we have been granted scant glances into the world of the Marauders, and fewer still into purist society, so while utterly untenable developments are frowned upon, we expect everyone to play a part in fleshing out the world of pure-blooded elitism: it is, we believe, something more than a sea of sneers.

Please see the faq for in-depth details, but we are only partially DH-compliant (in the sense that we reject certain elements of back story that surfaced in the novel and we also wish to integrate the events of the novel into a player-created AU).

Additionally, there is pre-set game!canon, predominantly in the form of character details pre-established by the mods and current players. The pre-made family details were our attempt to create some structure before the game gets rolling, but if you're applying for someone in a family no one has picked up yet and want to change their story, let us know and we'll talk about it! On the other hand, if, say, you're bringing in the second of the Carrow siblings, it would be in your best interest to read the profile of the first to make sure you're on the same page. We'll be keeping the cast page updated with character blurbs for your perusing pleasure.

06. On plots and game mechanics

Game premise.

07. On journals

[info]xhottxwitchx__, bad. [info]lectoed and [info]noirivoire, good.

08. On pb's

Before you run off to take advantage of GreatestJournal's generosity and make 284 100 icons of your character, please step back and consider the following: does the subject fit your character's description in terms of appearance, age, and ethnicity? If so, then you stand a pretty good chance of having your chosen PB (portrayed/played by) given the green light by the mods. You may not use a PB another player has claimed. While we do not have a list of banned PB's Lindsay Lohan, Sophia Bush, we strongly discourage you from using anyone who is the star of a ridiculously popular show, band, etc. If we disapprove of your PB, we'll tell you and ask you to change it. Just use your head.

09. On characters

At the moment, we're only looking for the characters listed here. We want to focus on the inner workings of pureblood society, which means we're only really looking for those characters of the wizarding elite, as it were. Obviously this makes it difficult for a character like Sirius to interact with many of his friends, so we've compiled a list of characters that can be taken on only as a player's second/third character; remember that most of them just won't be getting the same sort of play that the main characters will. More information.
