introduction
"Purebloodedry > everything else.'"In all seriousness, Inlimis is just that. It's our slightly dark playground.
It's not that we hate the Marauders or Trio or 'good' characters (in fact, both Mods have a deep and abiding case of Prewett!love-from-afar) but Inlimis has le petite mort we've been looking for and not finding in games not focused on the power plays and displays, not to mention deeper workings, of the Pureblood houses.
If all the world's a stage, then it has most definitely been set and the opening act is beginning.
The new generation of Purebloods is rising whilst their parents fall back into the shadows, their actions no longer dominating wizarding life. Voldemort, the Dark Lord, has a hold on them quite different to the cooperation he recieves from the elders. Be it through fanaticism and devotion or a careful weighing of the scales, the scions of the great Houses are casting their lot with the Dark Lord (with a few marked exceptions).
the gist of it all
By limiting our character base to purebloods big and small, we've considerably narrowed the sort of IC interaction that is seen in traditional MWPP journal games. So things will work a bit differently here. The main gist is that Inlimis is more of a group of roleplayers with similar things in mind than a classic journalling game where mods are behind much of the plot. It would be impossible to expect anyone to enjoy sticking their Scion of Black in a game where the majority of his friends are not welcome, and so we've decided to attempt a different approach.
In short, Inlimis is a private story-line (psl) game. Instead of running through a specific amount of time (e.g., an academic year in Hogwarts) in a sane and linear manner, characters will interact in whatever timeframe the players want. There is no such thing as back-story here; all the scenes you place your character in will contribute to the tale, from their 10th birthday party to their final hour before an Auror's well-placed spell ends their life. This will allow players to write their characters in scenes that would otherwise be hard to accomplish; personally, I'd love to read about the grief Walburga gives the artist while sitting for her portrait.
how will it work?
With tags. The tagging feature is a godsend and we'll be abusing it shamelessly. The following examples illustrate what we're aiming for:
One-on-one
❖ A scene in which Bellatrix and Rabastan first meet would be tagged under the following:
1960, character: bellatrix, character: rabastan, type: 1:1
❖ Whereas a scene with them post-Azkaban in the timeframe of The Order of the Phoenix would be tagged as so:
1996, character: bellatrix, character: rabastan, type: 1:1
Various
❖ Scenes involving various characters (e.g., Andromeda's debutante ball) would be tagged under:
1970, character: Andromeda, character: charactergivenname, type: group
Available tags
Read up on the formats and then create tags as you need them!
❖ "YEAR" : the year tag should be just that, the year in which the scene you're posting/threading takes place.
❖ "character: charactergivenname" : replace 'charactergivenname' with... the character's given name. Add as many character tags as required.
❖ "type: description" : replace 'description' with 1:1, group, closed, or owl.
The mods will periodically go through the community's tags to make sure everything is tidy, so don't worry if you make a mistake!
scenes and journals
Scenes can be threaded out via comments or written over AIM and posted upon completion. All scenes should be posted to
inlimis and tagged accordingly. Always add the following header:

What
When

Rating
There is no magic journalling network in this interpretation of the Potterverse. Feel free to use your journal accounts as character diaries, but remember entries are not visible to other characters (unless stolen).
However, communication is fun, so in the spirit of fantastic communities such as CommuniQuills, please do have your character write and exchange letters (which can be done via comments)! Popular conventions such as the strikethrough with which you can't read what's beneath will be allowed. Remember that unless you specify whether the letter can/will fall into the wrong hands, only the correct recipient(s) will be able to reply.
community spirit
The life of the game will all come down its players' activity. While the mods are here more to tend to the administrative side of things than to enforce participation and introduce large plots, we will run several group scenes to keep the sense of community alive. Group scenes can be anything from asking the head of the Black family to throw a Yule gala, to having an NPC group of Aurors chase down and duel with a group of Death Eaters. We want you to have fun and play in scenes that interest you, so we'll post asking for ideas and suggestions.
In short, it all comes down to our player-base. We're looking for people who want to flesh out the world of pureblood society; what happens here is up to you!

WHAT'S YOUR TAKE ON THE KNIGHTS OF WALPURGIS?
Our take on the ever elusive brotherhood known as the Knights of Walpurgis is that it's a very old gentlemen's club, founded long, long before Grindelwald ever showed up. In the days of past pureblood glory, almost every patriarch and scion of the great families were sure to be members. The group's origins are obscure and considered a fanciful story by those not in the know, because, of course, the first rule of the Knights of Walpurgis is that one didn't speak of the Knights of Walpurgis to the riffraff. Members discussed everything from wine to their overwhelming superiority to the rest of the wizarding world; they made anonymous donations to causes that served their interests, and planned out their children's lives over cognac. It's also quite possible they regarded Grindelwald as a casual side-project. By the time Lord Voldemort first rose to power, the Knights were all but forgotten, even as a tale, and while members of the major pureblood families were probably members, the solidarity once found in the group had splintered -- a good thing, at least for a Dark Lord who would rather see control of the magical world in his hands rather than a fraternity of some of society's purest, wealthiest wizards.
WHERE EXACTLY DO YOU STAND ON CANON?
Inlimis was conceived before the release of Deathly Hallows and although that novel will have an effect on play, we cannot be considered fully DH-compliant. Pre-DH canon will be followed (although there will be a little fluidity, particularly whilst fleshing out details of pureblood society). Some DH plot points will occur as mod-led Inlimis events but not all, and the outcome of these will be (within a certain amount of reason) up to the Inlimis players themselves. Although we will attempt to integrate a lot of the Death Eater action that occurs in the book, it is at this point that we split very much into a What-If AU. Likewise, back-story provided in DH may not be adhered to in a strict sense, although the main points will be followed (for example, Regulus must die after discovering the horcrux, but will not die in Inlimis!canon in the manner described by Kreacher). If you have any questions, don't hesitate to grab one of the mods who will do their best to help you!
CAN I HAVE MORE THAN ONE PB SINCE INLIMIS SPANS DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS?
In a word, yes! It's not compulsory at all, but if you would like to there isn't any problem. You can either list them in your application or just have a chat with the mods if you decide you would like an additional older PB later on after you've been accepted.
