Previous Entry  Add to memories!  Tell a Friend!  Next Entry
Lexie Summers has spent almost 16 years waiting for this moment. She'd attempted a few times before to come down into the basement of the mansion, to access the Danger Room - each attempt had been quickly thwarted a and ended in a grounding. But now, finally, she was allowed to be there. For the last several months her father had drilled it into her: This was a responsibility. This wasn't a game. People got hurt. She wasn't supposed to move past the most novice levels until Scott himself said she was ready. Any arguments or deviation from *any* of these rules would result in the most severe consequences Scott was able to imagine at any given time, but....it was FINALLY time. So why was she suddenly so nervous???

Well, no need to be too nervous. Her big sister was also in the room. For added security, just in case.

"You ready, Lexie?"

"I was born ready. -ish. ready-ish." The confidence didn't sound quite genuine...but there were worse reactions she could be having. "Rachel...thanks....if I die, you get first dibs on my iTunes account."

"Hey," Rachel said. "Nobody's died in the Danger Room since Dead Kid. And he was supposed to do that."

She waved up at the control booth, telling them to get the program started.

She'd watched it a *thousand* times, from the safety of the control room. She was well versed with what the Danger Room could throw at someone, but being down there, on the floor, it all looked so much....bigger.

She heard the hum of motors turning...before a laser blast, set at the lowest possible level came out of the celine, hitting her with a zap that made her yelp in suprised indignation but did no damage. Apparently just standing still wasn't encouraged and it made her get the lead out as another laser blast pinged near her feet, prompting her to take cover.

Rachel lifted up into the air, hanging back. She was here to intervene if things got hairy, but not much else.

"Take your time. The program's designed to adapt to what you do."

Adapt what she does huh...It was just so different, being down there, having to react in the moment. The big difference was She was a human being, she got tired - the danger room didn't. She'd wanted to be brilliant, pull off some impressive feat, but eventually, with various areas of her body stinging in more than one point as she waved her arm in the universal sign of surrender and waited for a moment, making sure any more little zaps wern't going to find any more tender areas before groaning in relief,

"That....sucked."

"Hey, you weren't too bad," Rachel assured her sister. "I ever tell you about my first session?"

"I don't want to be "not that bad" Rach...I'm not complaining...I guess I was just hoping some...here-to undiscovered super power that revolved around being naturally talented at being awesome would pop up..."

"Trust me, Lexie," Rachel said. "You can push yourself, sure. But if you push yourself too much, you turn into Dad."

That had her a little torn...on the one hand, she idolized her dad. On the other hand...it was her *dad*. "Oh God he's not going to watch the tapes of this, is he...?? I'll be doing laps for a month.."

Rachel looked up at the control booth for a second and a brief flicker of energy filled her eyes.

"Hard to say. Be a real shame if the erase recording button got somehow pushed, though. Real shame."

Rachel gave her a hug. "Who? Me? I know absolutely nothing about the sudden telekinetic surge that caused that. Nothing at all."
