What is the purpose of burying dead bodies? I assumed it was to mask the smells of decomposition, which can become foul very quickly, but I'm also told there is personal significance to it. That does not make sense. A dead body is an object. It cannot talk to you. I would not feel comforted sitting next to a decomposing heap of flesh, organs, and bones. I believe it is more efficient to burn the bodies. The odor of the burning flesh is only a temporary discomfort, and does not take as long as natural processes.

Burying is also impractical, for it is a waste of land, unless you were to bury many in one large hole. Even in that situation, a cremation would ultimately save resources. Labor, included.

Many things commonplace are not practical. I wonder why this is. I will have to look further into it.

If you bury someone individually you can visit their grave time and again. It's a comfort thing.

You can visit them even if they're in a hole with many others. It is no different than meeting someone in a crowded building.

That makes it impersonal.

I don't believe in the practice of burying dead, anyway. It's outdated.

It's not like they can complain.

Which method of body disposal do you prefer?

If I had to pick I guess cremation. If you want the remains you can keep them, and if you don't that's that.

Do you think sharpened bones would make good weapons? I think I would want my body to have a practical use after death. I do not want to waste away in a hole, though I do not see what can come of being burned. Though it does get it out of the way.

Uh, well, they can be used as weapons but when you have things like guns they might not be extremely effective. I guess you could donate your body to science. That's useful.

You can specify what kind of research to which you want to donate your body.

There is nothing comforting about putting a dead body underground and covering it with dirt. How does that help one to accept death?

I agree, but mankind do not allow their minds to develop as they once did. Unfortunately after a certain amount of time, their bodies do not offer assistance to science once decay has begun.

Once decay has begun it is a smelling mass that needs to be disposed of. It is unpleasant.

It may also be unfortunate that the attachments are there to begin with. If the bond is never made, then there's no need to try and cope.
