King's Office
So here's the deal with The King's Office:
Anyone may post a suggestion for a new law, whether it be old or new. Some will be previously established at the mod's discretion, but your opinions are highly valued in regard to these.
Some laws may be repealed upon a majority vote of Parliament and approval of the King. The same goes for approving a law.
Once a law has been suggested (and only one law per post please) it will be open to discussion for one week. Once the week is up the opinions will be weighed and the dice will be cast. A master list of laws will be kept, whether they be approved, discarded, or later repealed.
A repeal can be called for at any time in a new post (such as Request to Repeal Law #48, and then stating the reasons for the request). The repel will be voted on just like a regular law with a one week grace period.
If this system doesn't work we will tweak it until it does.
The laws can be anything from the heavily serious (restricting movement of dangerous creatures), to the completely ridiculous (the call to have all children be silent all day on Tuesday). This part of the game is something of a fun experiment.
Please format your laws as follows:In the subject line: the name of the law
In the body: the law itself followed by the reason for and the main petitioner who requested it (it can be a made up petitioner it doesn't have to be a current character in the game)
If the law is approved the tagline "Approved by the King in the year of *whatever year it is*" will be added by whomever posted it. Please read the miscellaneous section for how years are titled and use that for reference. At some point if it gets too confusing I'll make a post that list every year and the actual roman date it corresponds with.
The voting process for the King's Office:Officially speaking only members of Parliament and the King have the power to approve laws, however in regards to the game every character that registers a vote will count (since not all of your characters will agree, and not all of your characters will vote). If this becomes an issue we will tweak this area until it works.
I ask that players not abuse this; characters would only vote on issues that concerned them personally, or things that they felt passionately enough to vote on.
How it would work in the real Parliament is sort of how we work it in the "fake in-game King's Office." A law would be proposed on the floor, people voting on it would be allowed to discuss/vote on it and hear each others opinions. That's why people can see each other votes on a law. The original poster of the law could respond to comments during the process, simply because that's how the process works.
We'll tag any King's office business with !laws so it will be easier to find and navigate.
