He'd nod except...well, that'd kind of ruin the spoon trick. So instead he looks like he's trying to burn a hole in the spoon with his eyes, without going cross eyed at least. This was the sort of concentration you put into a new and very difficult spell, where you tended to lose track of your surroundings. And yes...he was doing this for a spoon trick. Because it was cool and he wanted to, don't question it!
