Pinging Services [10 Jun 2006|09:56am]
For those of you that know what pinging is you’ll probably be able to understand this post much better then those of who don’t. I’ll admit it, I was a little confused about how it all worked, and honestly I am still trying to figure out how trackbacks work. I’m sure I’ll understand it eventually.

Anyways, for those WordPress users out there, how many use the built-in pinging feature? And I mean how many of us have gone out there and found sites other then the one included in the default install to ping? I know I added Technorati but then I noticed that in my WP 2.0.2 install they included a link to the WordPress website which included a nice long list of hosts you could ping.

I just copied the list and pasted the list. For the last 3-4 posts it’s been hanging or the web page times out because it takes so long to ping all those hosts. So I removed at least half of the hosts, mostly ones that ended in .jp or other foreign countries and now it still takes about 30-45 seconds but it hasn’t timed-out yet. I have about 10-15 services now, maybe a little less.

Should I really be pinging all those services or does 5-6 services do fine??

Verizon added to gCal SMS Notifications [10 Jun 2006|09:57am]
On an episode of Diggnation, Kevin was talking about how Google Calendar had just about every carrier BUT Verizon. As I look in my notification settings on my gCal web page I do indeed see Verizon. It’s nice to know they’re still working on gCal and continually adding in things. I might have to try this out since I do indeed use Verizon, although I think I might stick with email notifications for right now. It’s nice to get an email with your daily schedule.

Apple Remote Desktop 3 Widget [10 Jun 2006|09:57am]
While I don’t go into Dashboard to often, I did notice that there is a widget included with Apple Remote Desktop 3. As far as I can tell this widget really only takes a screenshot of a remote desktop and shows it within the widget. Can anyone tell if it does anything else??

Ok, so maybe that it’s useless but it is pretty!
