IC; Student Application
Character's Full Name: Katherine Elise Spinks
Age and House: 17, Gryffindor.
PB: Leighton Meester
Character Username: [info]kaspinks
Sexuality: Heterosexual

Personality:

There has never been a time that Katherine has not taken the initiative to get something done, she has never been the type of person to wait for others to take action, she's quite capable of doing that on her own. Independant, clever, quick-witted and assertive, Katherine is best known for her unfailing integrity in every situation, the honesty and straightforewardness that remains in tact no matter what. It's not that Katherine hasn't lied a little, but her belief in doing what is right doesn't make her much of a pushover, which annoys most people to no end. This does make her a good leader and she thrives in situations where others may stumble, nothing really rattles her. She is fiercely competitive, and needs a good challenge like others need air to breath. Her restlessness in this regard comes from an inexaustible curiosity which only helps in removing most obstacles that get into her way. She believes that adversity builds character and so is never one to shy away from any difficulties in life, she tends to meet these sorts of things head on. She approaches things forcefully, directly, and with a smile on her face, always ready for a battle of words if need be.

Katherine is an incredibly precise person, her thoughts need to be clear and ordered so that she can face the many things she has going on at the same time, and yet outwardly she is a complete mess. Except for her appearance and state of mind, Katherine tends to leave things everywhere, losing things often. She also can be too impulsive and not think things through properly, and though she is graceful enough to fix the situations she gets herself into, the fact is she gets herself into them nonetheless. Katherine takes a lot of unnecessary chances, her enthusiasm for adventure causing her a multitude of problems. If she could learn a little patience she wouldn't get herself into these jams. You can't call her judgemental, becuse that would go against her damned integrity, but she definetly ignores other peoples opinions at times, if only because she lieks to do things herself. It's called co-operation, and she needs to learn a thing or two about it.

Katherine tends to either make people want to strive to be better, or feel horrible for not being better, though it's not an intentional thing. She has never forced her opinions on other people, and she is not one for attention. She is happy with who she is, and this natural confidence tends to attract people to her. She is a loyal friend though has trouble with trusting people, as evidence in her always having to do things herself (people just can't do it it properly!)She is incredibly affectionate, which only comes from her zest for life and having connections with other people.Being born a pureblood has made her graceful and full of tact, diplomatic in most cases. She's most comparable to fire, bright, burning quite the first impression into everyone's mind, but if she can't tone down the ferocity, she's likely to get out of control.

Brief History:
Katherine Elise Spinks was born April 20th 1980 to Pureblood parents Cecilia Harriston-Spinks and Edward Spinks. Edward came from a long line of purebloods, his ancestry held in prominence. Cold, calculating and infuriating, Edward was a bit of 'love-em and leave-em' types, who was swiftly put into his place when he was arranged to marry Cecilia Harriston. Cecilia was bright, vibrant, and compassionate, all the things that Edward was not. Their marriage cemented a bond between the two pureblood families, though neither participants were happy with it. They had Katherine out of duty, and Edward to this day has never been concerned with his daughter while Cecilia considers Katherine to be the only light in her dismal life. Entering into such a family would normally transform a child into a a troubled teenager, but Katherine, even as a child, was strong of mind.

Curious, and full of energy, Katherine soaked up the world around her at a young age, her immense love of learning allowed for her to expand her mind and dwell in relationships that worked, unlike her parents' marriage. She always thirsted for affection, which her mother gave readily, though she also had a real desire to give it. Being an only child only made Katherine yearn for friendship more, and not dwell by herself, though she became fiercely independant because of it. She grew up amongst the glamour of the pureblood world, and grew up graceful, dutiful but not ignorant. Her mother taught her to take nothing at face value, and she never accepted the high society life as it was given to her. She was bred high-class and so she was as much a part of it as her parents were, and while she didn't agree with most things (like their bloodist policies) she took her role.

She grew up mostly around boys, the few girlfriends that she did have, Katherine found to be snobbish and insufferable even at 10 years old. Katherine yearned for the adventure that so many of her male friends had, though she was often banned from participating in any 'horse play' as her father called it. And so when Katherine was 11 she was bored, anxious, and desperately waiting for that Hogwarts letter to appear, when it did, Katherine didn't even miss the life she was leaving behind even a little. Her sorting into Gryffindor came as no surprise to her mother, who had been a Gryffidnor as well. Katherine found that she fit in rather nicely, her efforts to make friends occured as soon as she had stepped onto that train. She took to her studies with vigour, and while she wasn't immensely book smart as fellow dormmate Hermione was, Katherine held her own by sheer cleverness. In her final year, it has come time for her to make a decision about her life and what she's going to do in it. But for a girl who has never run out of gas, she's not really sure she has the time to stop and really think about it.

Sample Journal Entry:

I would like to thank our great ancestors for making our 'species' (is that the correct word?) history so very riveting, the history of witchcraft really has me on the edge of my seat. Now while you all know that I deeply love the pursuit of knowledge, I would rather it be exercised on material that was not meant for a substitute bed time story, as I think this is the fifth time I've fallen asleep on my History of Magic textbook and spilled ink all over it.

Well now I just sound sarcastic. I really am sorry, I guess I've just had an off day, which started so pleasently with another round of muggle-bashing in the hallways. Would everyone kindly grow up and realize there is no difference in anyones blood?-well other than types. I'm an O positive! Isn't that fascinating? My muggle potions partner explained to me the muggle blood typing and I find it so interesting, and my fellow purebloods think there is such thing as dirty blood--there I go again rambling. Maybe I should just become a healer and then my ramblings would have a point. I'm beginning to exasperate myself. Anyone up for a walk outside I think fresh air is called for!

Sample RP:
Katherine had been toying with the reddish brown locks of her hair for well over an hour, and with every twist of mohaghany, Kat's patience was wearing incredibly thin. Professor Binns in front of her, droned on about yet another example of burnings at the stake, a topic that had grown well worn in 4th year. While Katherine was a good student, her restlessness persuaded her mind to imagine better things, like the outing she had today with the girls or the boy two seats in front of her who kept looking back to...wait a minute.

Startled out of her reverie, Kat's quill dropped from her now slack hand, confusion gracing her porcelein face. I must be going mad she thought to herself, as her hazel eyes locked onto that boy two seats in front of her, who was in fact staring her straight in the eye. Immediately flustered, Kat fought the urge to look away and bury her reddening face into her parchment, but instead she simply raised an eyebrow at him. Why in Merlin's name is he staring at me? the gears in her mind turning ever quickly as she studied the boy.

He was a Ravenclaw, but Kat wasn't sure if she had ever seen him before-then again, she hadn't put scouting blokes on the top of her list. Instead of sending him a dirty look for making her feel so uncomfortable, Kat leaned forward on her desk, hands splayed out for balance, and cocked her head to the side. "What is it?" she whispered, over exaggerating the movement of her lips, so he would get that she was annoyed. Wasn't she?
