Even Santa Claus Believes in You!
"So your Mom was a superhero?" Clara asks, watching Mikal string the bow.

"My mom and dad both, yeah. Really, most of the people I knew growing up."

"Gee. I don't have a lot of context. Your dad was Arsenal... what was your mom's heroine name?"

"Uhm, Troia, Wonder Girl, Darkstar... and a brief stint as Wonder Woman."

"Wow. We... don't really get a lot of Wonder Persons at home. Dad has one of Wonder Woman's -- the regular Wonder Woman's; I guess she's your aunt. Wow. -- anyway, one of speeches in ... um ... a book." She blushed a little.

More blushing, Clara looks down. "Screwing for Virginity: Thoughts by Soldiers on Peace." She clears her throat. "But anyway, wow. Wonder Woman is your aunt. That's pretty out there."

He chuckles and nods. "I know that one. Always been one of the contradictions of the Amazons... warrior society all about promoting peace and diplomacy. I guess it is though... never thought about it much. That was always just the way things were."

"Well, of course it would be normal when, y'know, it's normal. It's just, we know a lot about the Flash and Superman, and now I know about Hawk and Dove stuff because of my sister, but for the most part back home, the Amazons might as well live at the North Pole for all we know about them."

"That's right, you are from the Flash's home town, aren't you? I've been to the museum once. Amazing place. And your sister is the new Dove?"

"Yeah. The museum is really neat. And yeah, she is. She seems pretty happy with it. It all sounded so strange and storybookish secondhand, you know?" A smile. "And now I've got new circumstances and magic-type friends, too."

"That's just a 'failure to channel energy properly,' Dad says." Clara offers the insider expertise. "Also, we don't believe in Hell, so that helps."

"Well, that's helpful, anyway. I know both mom and Aunt Diana have been to a couple underworlds, so hard to disbelieve entirely, but there may be something to that - at least in a traditional sense. I haven't figured out the whole cosmology thing."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

"Probably some sort of temporary -- cosmically temporary -- measure, or other unusual circumstances. Probably plenty of ways for a place to be underworldish without involving actual eternal damnation. 'Cause that shouldn't happen." When there's only one thing your religion is really not supposed to believe in, you believe in its absence pretty hard.

"Absolutely. Like I said, really wouldn't know. And my parents aren't terribly fond of Hades, so can't really ask the closest thing their religion has to an expert."

[info]keepstargazing
2013-01-09 06:19 am UTC (link)
"Well, that's understandable." Pause. "But anyway, no, can't raise hell. Haven't got one. That's why my troublemaking is so much more sophisticational and stuff."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]apollos_bow
2013-01-09 06:26 am UTC (link)

"I got the person playing the wake-up music at camp to replace the regular stuff with Helter Skelter." She'd done it by asking nicely. So sneaky.

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]apollos_bow
2013-01-09 06:46 am UTC (link)
"It was." He doesn't mention any of his own exploits. Possibly less appropriate. "Not really. A few basic things come with being an Amazon - super strength, speed, durability and flight, mostly."

(Reply to this)(Parent)(Thread)

[info]apollos_bow

"Nice, easy to remember number. Not as versatile as a power ring, but it works. I suppose most of the Amazons also get the bracelets and some things like that - but I didn't get those. I'm pretty decent with my bow, though. I usually bring that with me. Not quite the same, but still, its a family thing."

Hot pink blue lanterns are apparently the fashion in the vicinity. "Gosh. Thanks, Mikal."

"And I'm sure Damian will come around," she adds quickly. "But yeah, until then, you're definitely worth it, too"

"Oh, I know she's capable of it. She's just kind of tightly wound and worried about everyone else so often. I figured a natural troublemaker like you might be able to help her out."
