McMenamins</a>. And Burgerville. And The Enchanted Forest. And the Ducks and the Beavers! And the Portland Trailblazers. We want big league baseball, but funds/space/etc....keep it from happening...
5. Snow Days.
The bane of every mother. Thing is, we don't GET the kind of snow that we got this year. I mean, we just DON'T. Which means that when it happens, our equipment is limited, our experience is limited, and I'll just point at those California drivers again who think they know how to drive in everything...just....DON'T!!! At any rate, our elevation changes SO much over the area of our school district, and Portland Metro in general, that there can be ice/snow in one area, and a quarter of a mile down the hill, it's gone. And our elevations really swing. I mean, really - do you WANT a huge yellow bus with a driver not so experienced in driving in snow/ice barrelling down the road toward YOUR kids standing on the corner waiting for it, with other IDIOT DRIVERS sliding around? Yeah, let's just not go there and call it a snow day. Our school district ranges from downtown Thrillsboro to outlying rural areas, and our teachers don't necessarily live in the boundaries of their school - or hell, even in the district - so making them drive in, too, is just dangerous and unnecessary. So, we get our snow days, the kids have some fun, and Mom slowly goes insane. Bully for all you who walked in blizzards, more power to ya...we don't GET THAT KIND OF WEATHER on a regular basis. WE ARE IGNORANT, yes we are. Mild climate, mild climate, mild climate....
